Please be advised that I am hard at work trying to bring additional alternative features the the HLT and that should (when) I am successful YOU will be the first to know. Because you come here, read and listen to our, now officially, non AI reporting, and I/we/us appreciate your pilgrimage to the HLT magic kingdom very much. Mucho gusto. And now a few comments on KINDS of KINDNESS.

This film is not for everyone. It has polar extremes much the same way that modern politics do. You either love the hell out of it or hate it like the Devil hates heaven. There is no middle ground, no purgatory or fence on which to sit. It is a binary as black and white. I, personally, like it a lot. But, as they say in the courtroom, I plead guilty - with explanation. Nolo contrendere. For the simple reason that its imperfections are the glaring reasons why it is so frustrating. It should be every bit as solid as its award winning predecessor, POOR THINGS, or even THE LOBSTER. But when it becomes apparent that the story line(s) are going to end up in Abmiguityville, or worse, “I can’t figure out what it is about so I won’t even try” land, one cannot dismiss the nagging sensation of being the butt of the joke. And that is absurdism in its best suit of invisible clothes, standing naked in front of an audience wanting simply an explination. The showing is superb, the telling subpar. I wanted another act, something that cleans the mess up and THEN walks away. And not a moment sooner. That is a true power dynamic, Robert.

Saturday night at 9:15, the HLT in conjunction with the BAINBRIDGE ISLND FILM FESTIVAL presents Second Saturday Late Night at the Lynwood screening of ME & IT’S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY, a pair of animated shorts guaranteed to keep you riveted. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2396224/ for the trailers and a deeper dive and bifilmfest.org for tickets.

Lastly today, we have been assembling the summer/fall live music schedule, with the acts sure to please. I will make that announcement next week, so be sure to continue to stop by for all the good news on upcoming events. Suffice it to say that I am hustling on the streets trying to books acts, music, comedy and alternative films.

Don’t forget LAWRENCE of ARABIA will be here on August 11&12. Tickets here.

Big HLT thanks to Steve Stollee, Sebastian Scales and Tom Jorza for their exceptional presentations over the weekend. Despite the ‘competition’ from the 4th, the parade, the car show, the 5K, the baseball game, that little rummage sale, a street dance and three delightful days to stage them, these talented artists filled our auditorium with a most appreciative crowd. If you were among the sell-out crowd on Sunday, you witnessed a very special event that happens about, well, once-in-a-lifetime. Seriously.

The pre and post bumpers from today’s episode are from THE SPIRIT OF UBUNTU, an uplifting film we will be screening on July 31. Here is some more info and a link where you can reserve your FREE tickets. https://thespiritofubuntu.us

Thank you all, keep the peace and come watch a movie., we got ice cream!
