There you have it Film Fans, a pair from two of the greatest directors in the long and illustrious history of motion pictures. And, for the sake of overstatement, you can include movies from the silent era as well. Wim Wenders and Francis Ford Coppola are they. If you would like to argue the point (and include Steve Spielberg and/or George Lucas) please do. I promise not to bite your head off and feed it to the poor Haitians in Springfield, Ohio. But first…

…A big HLT shoutout to the hearties who participated in our Run 4 Democracy on Saturday (and hung on to watch the free screening of PREFONTAIN afterwards). Representative Greg Nance was his usual eloquent self, winning both the 5K and the debate that preceded the film. He has the complete endorsement of the HISTORIC LYNWOOD THEATRE. Go Greg!

PRIS, TX. Where to start? How about its current 8.1/10 ranking at IMDB?  Meaning, in practical terms, that only films the stature of LOTR, The Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Dune II, Oppenheimer, Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Fight Club and The Lion King outperform it by popular vote of the American citizenry. Lofty, to say the least. Yet, it’s narrative is deceptively simple; Dude has been AWOL for four years, suddenly reappearing to recapture his wife, daughter and basically his entire prior existence. Doing all this in the East Texas tumbleweed and tobacco backwater town of Paris. Harry Dean Stanton, Dean Stockwell and Nitassja Kinski work wonders under the masterful direction of Wim Wenders in this timeless tale of reconciliation and the price of guilt under the red-hot Texas sun. Four days only! Do not miss.

MEGALOPOLIS. Francis Ford Coppola of his own free will, sold (portions of) his productive and profitable wine estate in Sonoma, CA to finance the completion of the film that has been in production for thirty years. How is that for high stakes? Truth be known, I have done this as well. Same thing anyway. In 1999, I sold my studio condo on Capitol Hill to finance the production of my first sports documentary, NORTHWEST TRIATHLON '99. So I know how he must feel. Maybe. Here is the uncut and unfiltered synopsis from RT: MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor's daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves. You had me at Roman Epic. Rated R, 2:18. See you here.

Lastly, tickets are on-sale now for the OCT 12 performance by VICTIMS OF LOVE at Farawayentertainment.com. Get yours before they’re ALREADY GONE.
