Michael Metcalf Season 10 Episode 144

Prayer for Rescue and Prosperity.

A Psalm of David.

144 Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
 And my fingers for battle;
2 My lovingkindness and my fortress,
 My stronghold and my deliverer,
My shield and He in whom I take refuge,
Who subdues [a]my people under me.

-          The title of this message is prayer for rescue and prosperity

o   I love the idea that we can pray not only to be rescued but also for prosperity

o   this implies protection from that which is bad but abundant blessing from that which is good

-          A Psalm of David

o   this means it's a song and it should be remembered

o   David means beloved so it should be remembered by all of God's children who are beloved

-          blessed be the Lord, my rock

o   the Lord is a rock (this means a solid place to plant your feet and build your life upon)

-          Who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle

o   this implies that the Lord teaches you to be strong and ready for opposition and prepared to win

-          my loving kindness and my fortress

o   God is loving and kind always

o   he's also our fortress because he protects us from everything

-          my stronghold and my deliverer

o   the stronghold is like a Fort it is a place of safety

o   a deliverer is someone who picks you up from one place in trouble and takes you to another place in safety

-          my shield and he in whom I take refuge

o   the shield can protect you from fiery darts

o   Jesus Christ is the one in whom I must and you must and we must take refuge

o   there is no secure place other than in Jesus Christ

-          who subdues my people under me

o   God can subdue any group of people instantly and permanently

3 O Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him?
Or the son of man, that You think of him?

-          Oh Lord, what is man, that you take knowledge of him

o   in other words puny little man is so unimportant why does God pay any attention

-          or the son of man that You think of him

o   the son of man can be a reference to our children and our children's children

o   or it could be a reference to the son of man the Lord Jesus Christ

o   I believe the idea is why does God care so much about man that he sent Jesus Christ from heaven to die in a cross to pay for our sins to save us

§  we seem unworthy

§  there is a sense of disbelief as to why God would do such a thing

§  and yet He did

 4 Man is like a mere breath;
His days are like a passing shadow.

-          and it's like a mere breath

o   a breath is a very short period of time

o   man does not live very long in comparison to God

o   these thousand years is as a day
