Visionary Steps to Enrich Your Life Journey
Jan 05, 2024 Season 1 Episode 80
With Michael Kane

Time slips through our fingers like grains of sand, an elusive force that can inspire as much as it can intimidate. That's why I, Michael Kane, open up about the power of thoughtful planning for a fruitful 2024. We often forget to pause and reflect on our journey, but hindsight, as they say, is 20/20. With an eye on the lessons learned from the previous year, I invite you to join me in leveraging our past to catapult into a future ripe with potential. From pinpointing what sparked joy and success to dissecting the missteps that taught us resilience, our conversation navigates the intricate dance of replicating triumphs and learning from stumbles. I'm here not just to share my thoughts, but to walk beside you, with the humility of someone who knows that imperfection is part of the human experience.

Turning the page to my personal aspirations, I lay bare my roadmap for the coming year, a mix of professional endeavors and life-enriching pursuits. Staying abreast of economic currents is paramount, as they shape the landscape of our decisions, from investments to career moves. But it's not all spreadsheets and stock tickers; I also illuminate the softer side of my 2024 vision, where honing new hobbies like guitar strumming and chess strategies sit alongside furthering my passion for writing. Balancing the scales, family and intentional living hold court as cornerstones of my agenda, because at the end of the day, time may be beyond our grasp, but how we fill it is ours to decide. So, let's embark on this expedition through life's adventures together, with a spirit of growth and a commitment to savoring the moments that make the journey worthwhile.

Speaker 1:

Well, hello there. This is Living your Success. 24-7, with Michael Hain in the house. 20-24, can you believe it? No, seriously, can you believe it is 20-24? Let me see.

Speaker 1:

I have to look at the calendar again. It just amazes me that the time has flown, gosh. You know what are we dealing with here. Time, folks. Time that you cannot repeat, time that you cannot reduce, time that you cannot add to modify, change in any way or control. The only thing you can do with time is to manage it. Manage it with a plan or not.

Speaker 1:

A plan Now, without a plan, may not end too well, but I know some people believe in luck, but they say let love be a lady tonight. And some believe in planning and not waiting for things to just happen. So you have to ask yourself what side of the coin am I on? Am I on who? I am going to plan in 20-24, like I have never planned ever before, which, although nothing is guaranteed, no matter what kind of planning or what kind of talents you have or information, still I guarantee I'll have to. But if you do plan, your chance, your opportunity for living a successful life will become more possible as opposed to just floating in the wind.

Speaker 1:

So, 20-23, folks, you need to do an assessment what went right, what went wrong or not so well, sort of well, not to beat you up, Don't beat yourself up but to reflect and evaluate on lessons learned. Oh my God, did I learn some hard lessons in 20-23? I thought my days of learning hard lessons were over in, I think, 2016. But each year there's a hard lesson. There's a lesson in learning that mud lessons which they make us grow and they make us get on the path that we need to get on. We deviate from that road, that path, and things don't always go as well as we expect. So we should view 20-24 moving forward as a positive and to say what we will repeat from 20-23. What we will duplicate, simulate, imitate and what we will get the heck out and throw it away, throw it in trash and the toilet Never, ever repeat, ever again.

Speaker 1:

Only you can do that. Don't judge yourself purely based on what other people think of you. Now, maybe some validity in that. Sometimes it's a hard pill to swallow. But um, self feedback critique, if it's transparent, can be beneficial as well.

Speaker 1:

But it's always good to have a coach and a mentor. Hey, if you can't find anyone else here. I'm your mentor, I'm your coach here. Just listen to me. I don't have all the answers, and any of them folks that keep saying they got all the answers. That's just a lie. Nobody has all the answers. If you did, you wouldn't be human. You'd be like a good. You would be God and be like a God. You'd be God, and I don't know human beings that are that skillful, knowledgeable and penetrable, error-free, 100%, perfect. I don't know people like that.

Speaker 1:

So what do you ask yourself? What do you have in store for you in 2024? What are those things you want to work on, those things you want to learn? Maybe a new hobby, maybe take a class, learn something, learn a new skill? Maybe and this pertains, this discussion pertains to those who are starting out. This age is graduated, high school, college age or beyond that, or young adult, middle age, senior citizen.

Speaker 1:

Regardless of what age you are today, don't count yourself out, and even if you're retired from your main primary job, there's still a lot of living to do. Don't let anyone say there's not, that you're washed up. Don't you tell yourself those lies. Those are lies, by the way. Hmm, absolutely. Can you lie to yourself? That's both ways. Sometimes, you just tell yourself the truth. Well, perhaps I shouldn't be doing certain activities and others you should. That's the way, depending on what it is.

Speaker 1:

So I watch a lot of business news, read a lot and what's going on in different communities of the world, Not just to stay informed, so I can sound educated or smart, to prove myself to others, but I'm interested in how things take, how they work. I'll click like connecting those dots and associating things together. I like that. So all the news, what happened last year, with the inflation skyrocketing and then the resulting interest rates being raised by the governments of the world, and all the negativity of things happening and the challenges being alive, wanting to make it in this world, this life I was a sponge last year. I say all that is important to know is to be informed. So I encourage you to be informed. It's important because it could be a guidepost on which direction you take Now this year.

Speaker 1:

I'm still formulating my to-do list for 2024. We've got to look at the list from 2023. Still Still got to finish that. But certain things I just know I want to do. I want to learn an instrument, maybe guitar, because the guitar I guess I don't know. I'm trying to say do I have the time for that? I really don't want to start something I can't finish. And then I want to learn chess. We took a chess game. Now with chess set, it's like Christmas-y, like reindeer, santa Claus, miss Claus, stuff like that, and Christmas tree. So we're going to learn some chess, how to play chess. So we looked up the rules, watched YouTube videos and net instructions, so that's on our to-do list. So, and also I'm going to, so I'll switch in the chess.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to do more writing. It's time for another book. You know my book Slaying your Dragons Living Life. You Always Wanted, want to sell more copies of that. I think it has value, I know it does, but you got to make yourself known. I said, well, how am I going to market that? So I need, I'm going to market that, and 10, 20 fold, and what I did from last year, I'm going to market it and say, here, here I am and I'm going to be working on another one and I want to do I'm slowing down on doing presentations, but I'm still because I'm working on building this podcast in my newsletter slowly but surely.

Speaker 1:

So I want to focus more on the podcast and building a video presence and um and work on a newsletter and get some traction on that. So you can only do so much in 24 hours a day, so I don't wanna overwhelm myself. So those are things that I'm doing. I'm gonna, yeah, so two of those are my calling and business goals, and I do wanna work on another book. It'd be nice if I could get it done by December among with working on the newsletter and so in doing presentations in fact, I'd invited to another presentation that I'm gonna do next month spot leadership and so I'm gonna get that together and try to tailor it somewhat to the audience. That it's pretty much a kind of cookie cutter with a little customization depending on who I present it to. So I'm working on that and I think, as far as business, that's what I'm gonna do.

Speaker 1:

And then we have investments as well. So definitely will not stop investing in various investments relistate stocks, future funds, etf stuff like that, crypto, and so I wanna continue to do that because that builds wealth over time. But you gotta do your homework on that, right. So wanna do more stuff with the family. Yeah, that's why I can't spread myself too thin. Folks, do some more. You know what If all else fails. You got your close family I didn't say all family now, but the ones that appreciate you and support you. So I wanna focus on our children, who are adults so when we say children, but they're young adults and help them, you know, hopefully with good advice, direction and do some fun family activities. And we would like to at least travel one, one to two times a year as a goal. So we do have a trip planned later in a year.

Speaker 1:

So I'm just writing these things off and so I encourage you to say what does 2024 look for me? What does it look like? So we're gonna mix in business, family, fun, pleasure, activities, just life. It's too short. This recently went to a funeral family friend, long term, all my, all our life, of our fathers, best friends, and it brings you in perspective, especially when we're down and barking on a new year. What is that gonna look? It's just gonna be pacifist or we're gonna be active, and I wanna be active on purpose, intentional, as they say. I've been hearing that going on intentional. So right, you gotta do things on purpose. You gotta do things on purpose. I want to educate myself on different activities. I'm gonna.

Speaker 1:

My goal is to read more books and find a time to do that. You know, not kill myself doing these things. Okay, maybe 30 minutes each day. Read this. Another hour, write that, you know. Another hour present this, that and so, and half of the day, half of it and then the other last. Third get some rest, get some sleep and eat. Another big goal for me is to eat better and exercise. Exercise maybe at least three to four times a week. Doesn't have to be major, 30 minutes to an hour I can do that. But gotta get some rest and gotta have a positive outlook. My goal is to have a positive outlook this year, more so than last year, even though I thought I did well, but it's important that we do see the sun, how bright it is, even on a cloudy day. Was that temptation, at least my attempt at temptation's aint? I wish I could sing, like some of these folks. I wish I could have woulda.

Speaker 1:

Well, all you can do is be you, and we're born with certain innate talents, skills out from the gate and use what you got right, but for the end reason, so anyway, ask yourself so what do you have planned for 2024? What is important to you? Yes, to you, and you do. It's important that you get cheerleader for others, your support mechanism, not just financial support, and say that emotional support. But you gotta think about yourself. Yeah, if you don't include yourself in the mix, you're not gonna be much value to others or help, because you're all feet up, broken down. You don't take care of your health, what you eat, better exercise and your mental stability of seeing life with the glass full versus empty.

Speaker 1:

Now, I'm not being polyannish. Be realistic. Acknowledge when stuff ain't going right. It's not going right and what's the plan to endure and to move beyond that and to fix it? Being ostrich with a head in the sand is not gonna help. I tried that. All you have is a head and ear full of sand and the problem is still there. When you get up, Even if you wait two months, boom, it's still there, usually worse so, and not to make this somber, but what are you gonna do? We all have X number of years, years, months, days, weeks, weeks, days, minutes, seconds to do whatever we gotta do. So what you gonna do Uh-oh, sounds like I'm going into Ghostbuster, ghostbuster.

Speaker 1:

I just felt like saying that, and you know what One of my goals is If I feel like singing the Ghostbuster song or Luminator or any other song, or skipping down the street, I'm gonna do it. I was like screw everybody, it's got a problem, worry about yourself. I'm came to skipping down the street because I want to, because I want to. I'm humming a song because I want to. I said you know what? I wasn't put on this earth to kiss everybody's butt, yeah. So why? Why? Yeah. So I encourage you to not do anything crazy. But if you feel like this and people want you to do that, do this. Why? Because it's you, because you want to. As long as it's not gonna danger to yourself or other people, it's not crazy.

Speaker 1:

Am I saying to be insane now or doing things inappropriate? Don't get me wrong. Now we have to conform. But I'm talking beyond that. I'm talking about harmless stuff, even if you're not good at it. So you want to learn instrument or learn this or whatever.

Speaker 1:

Let's say you're not good at the game or whatever. Life is short, play the game. You want to play the game. So many people don't truly live trying to please other people all the time. And you folks getting married just without thinking, you have stuff in common, is it? You know? Just that's another show.

Speaker 1:

Loving money. You should hear our segments on loving money, get the male and female perspective and so so you gotta ask yourself to stop the nonsense. I put a stop of that so you don't know more Tolerate and stupid man. You don't need help being stupid. You can be stupid by yourself. What you want to get, have friends or or significant others that help you do stupid. I understand that.

Speaker 1:

When you're young, yeah, we do that. When you get older, hey man, when you get your 20s, 30s, 40s, my God, man, if you're still acting like a 12 year old, you know that's what you want to do. Do it. But hey, knock yourself out. But Living the show. Look what my the title is Living your success 24, seven, that is. I haven't attained that. It's my goal Goals to have all seven days Good and plenty Right, with peace and a full wallet. No, don't love money. But, man, it's nice to have in. It Isn't nice to have Ever heard him once? Oh, man, it's not nice to have For those people that blew it all, so emulate folks that are first doing the right thing and doing things that you admire. Hopefully that's a positive when I say that is positive.

Speaker 1:

So it's been a pleasure in dialoguing with you and it's important that we're in what days? January 5th right Friday, january 5th 2024. This is a call to action to all my listeners Make plans this month, start January, start the year off in January With a plan of action. That plan can change and mutate. Massage it it could be edited, it could be attitude subtracted, massage Holy modified. But I encourage you to plan this year out. It doesn't have to be down to the day or second, but basic timelines in three months, by this date, by this month.

Speaker 1:

I want this done. Can you do a little baby steps? And that's for me too. I told you I'm working on it. I'm definitely not going to repeat 2023, 2024. It's going to be a lot better Because I'm going to tighten it up, plan more and then, after you plan, you got to do it. Otherwise it's pointless taking action. It's the action that gets it done. It gets you closer to the prize.

Speaker 1:

But work on it, head on and ask yourself what I'm going to do about it.

Speaker 1:
