Feb 11, 2024 Season 2 Episode 5
With Michael Kane

Ever found yourself staring at your list of New Year's resolutions and wondering where the time went? This episode is all about seizing the moment and evolving those resolutions into tangible action. As your host Michael Kane.  I'm putting a spotlight on the urgency of pursuing goals, whether they're aimed for tomorrow or years down the line. I share from personal experience—yes, I'm back to pumping iron at the gym—demonstrating that the journey toward our most meaningful objectives starts with the steps we take today. If you've been waiting for a sign to kick things into high gear, consider this your starting pistol.

We tend to be our own toughest critics, and in this session, I explore how self-assessment can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth. It's not just about introspection; it's about aligning every small action with the grand vision we hold for ourselves. I invite you on a thought-provoking journey that might just lead you to redefine what success truly means for you. Remember, changing your mind isn't a failure—it's a pivot towards authenticity. And as we wrap up, I encourage you to carry this conversation forward by sharing it with others and visiting livingyoursuccess.com for that extra sprinkle of inspiration. Here's to a February filled with progress and purpose!

Speaker 1:

Well, hello there. This is Living your Success 24-7 with yours truly, michael Cain, cain in the house, woo, woo. Anyway, super Bowl Sunday today. Who do you have? Well, don't answer that. Gonna be exciting day later for the Super Bowl, super Bowl fans. So, anyway, I will be in parcel and not take sides right now, but I want to talk about something more important than the Super Bowl. Something more than the Super Bowl. Yes, there is, it's you. You're more important than Super Bowl, right, right, right, although we do love our Super Bowl and our NFL, our football right, our sports teams.

Speaker 1:

How is this year turning out? That's the topic. Topic A A what's going on? Is it going the way you like it? Part B we're in February, mid-february. Wow, it's going quick, isn't it? We were just in 2023, not too long ago, and so January you know it may be it's pretty mature to ask a question, but I think not.

Speaker 1:

Those New Year's resolutions are you working toward marching, toward working, taking action on what you said you wanted to do in 2024? Now, truth there's short term goals, there's mid term goals and there's long term goals. So the long term goals may take a while for them to to fruition, to pop up, but still, no matter what category it's in, it still takes some effort and some action and some baby steps to realize what's going to happen five years from now. It takes action today to realize the benefits of long term goals five years from now or 10 years from now. And short term goals could be anywhere from immediate C to, I would say, one to two years, midterm, two, three, four years, depends how you see it. So those list of goals and expectations maybe you didn't call them New Year's resolutions, maybe call just goals what you expect In your life, from your life, for your life.

Speaker 1:

Now me, I do have some items that I absolutely want to accomplish in 2024, with no excuses. Why say that? Because a lot of times we can make so many excuses for ourselves and why we can't do certain things. Now, one or two of my goals, quite honestly and that's all I can speak is my truth is I know what can accelerate my plans and I know certain things that can handle it, and sometimes you don't know what you don't know right. That's why it's good to read, investigate, study, to talk to. It's good if you have a coach and mentor that can help guide you, at least get you you know, pushing that accelerator down a little bit more, and also the steering column into the right direction. So I know I have one or two things that I absolutely need to do to jumpstart and get a little bit ahead. So I'm gonna be working on those one or two things.

Speaker 1:

Now it doesn't matter what the specific goal is, let's say, or category. Let's say you want to build up, make, have more business contacts or personal contacts, you want to expand your friend zone horizon or something, or your business connections, or you want to improve your health, right, you want to go and plan on vacations to enjoy your life while we're still here because, as you see, life is moving quick. So it's good, please plan, please document, please prepare. But if you do too much of that, you're gonna miss out on today. Planning so much and expecting for tomorrow, you miss out on today and, as we know, yesterday is done. It's in the history books by the time I make the statement. It's in the history books, it's done. So you have to learn, reflect, do pay or plan and then, ultimately, do See.

Speaker 1:

A lot of people get stuck in the doing phase because they're listening to that negative chatter again that's telling them no, you can't do that? You can't do that. What's wrong with you? So, anyway, you should, in my humble opinion, pick the most important goals or dreams, wishes, that you want to do and don't overload yourself. Pick important, the most important things to you that matter. Maybe a better relationship with your children or your parents or your friends? Maybe you had a fallen out. How about money you need? Okay, some people have a spending problem. Some people have an income problem and when we take our head out of the sand, it's quite apparent which one we have Suspending foolishly everything, just spending money, not saving nothing, even though you make a hundred, two hundred thousand a year, or fifty thousand a year, thirty thousand a year.

Speaker 1:

We do have to get rid of the excuses. We have to hunker down and get serious. There's so many people you could just give you advice out there. You know ignorant is not excused, because no one can claim ignorance at this point. There's so many books out there, speakers, websites you name it that you know can be a benefit to you and shows like mine, numerous. So no one can say I don't know. Now you may struggle with implementing it.

Speaker 1:

That's a different argument, but not that you don't know and spending all your money to zero. You don't have to be a personal finance major or guru to know oh, that didn't, how is that working out? Spending all your money or not making enough? Not, you didn't do what you're supposed to do, possibly, and so now you have income shortage. So what? And or maybe you know, I'm going to keep focusing on my health.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm going to lose a little more weight. How you going to do that? I just went to the gym yesterday. It's been about three, four months Now. I went to the gym yesterday. That's right, that's what you do. I took some action, did a mile and a half on a treadmill, worked out on some machines. So I'm going to do that. I'm introducing that in slowly but surely and I'm going to just do it, no more. Maybe I do this, maybe I do that.

Speaker 1:

You know how you keep talking and talking and keep talking. It's helping to agree. Some people talk to themselves. Until early gray didn't do what they're supposed to do. But you have to take ownership and I've been, uh, laxing in certain areas too, because you why, we're all human, taking care of certain things and you take care of health wise and and just being shape and and you have more energy to do more activities with family that's right and have some business goals.

Speaker 1:

They may be the most frustrating, saying, okay, I need to gain more attraction here, I need to really move forward. It's frustrating me to do certain things and I say, okay, what can I do? Okay, and I start getting advice, listening to know what I don't know. And life is tough, no matter how, whatever your privilege is. But obviously the more privilege you have going into it, the easier life can be.

Speaker 1:

Though you know that proverbial silver spoon in the mouth, yeah, but if you weren't born with that, like you know, my parents were poor. When they were growing up, from birth to whatever age teenage, young adult they were considered poor and then at some point they became middle class. Never, they didn't die rich, they're gone. They didn't die rich, but they didn't die broke either. They were what we call comfortable, and I'm fine with that. Before I wanted to be a billionaire, millionaire and all that. Yeah, I still do, but I gotta kill myself for that If I'm comfortable. What's comfortable, comfortable is when you can do a lot of things. You can't do everything, but you can do a lot of things. I'm fine with that and I can help people, can help family, help myself, encourage others. I'm fine with that. So I still personally, transparently, I'm not on the top of the mountain, nope, I'm somewhere from the. I'm in the midway part of the mountain, okay, and that's coming from zero, that's coming from some level of stuff to zero, back up, okay, after you lose stuff to sell all your stuff to survive, you may, you know, you gotta learn, you gotta have a learning curve, saying, whoa, that wasn't a smart decision on XYZ, won't do that stupid thing again. Believe it in that person. Yeah, watch. Who you call friend, who you call close. That's the one maybe trying to torpedo your plans Not to be walking around paranoic, but be careful out there it's rough. So there's a lot going on throughout the season the blood flowing down the tunnel, causing Sa Bit, 소, s V.

Speaker 1:

I would give myself a C for January. That's great. It's A, b, c, d, e, f, f. I don't know what E is right, d, f, yeah. So F, d, c, v, a. I give myself a C. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself. I could literally be a B, most likely, but I wanna be harder on myself because it pushes me when I think I'm further behind than I actually am actually makes me propel even greater than the original vision and gold dream wish that I was planning for. I'm a bit of a rough on myself. Slap myself around yeah, I slap myself around. What are you gonna do? Okay, that's for some folks that take things to extreme. Oh, he's slapping himself around. He doesn't love himself, yeah, okay, whatever, the cynic in me so this is addressing the haters for a moment, but anyway.

Speaker 1:

So how did January? How did it compare with, or is it an alignment with, what your ultimate goal is? Did you take some steps toward meeting those goals? And if you didn't take any, then you have to evaluate what your level of commitment or dedication in that goal. Or is it the right goal? Maybe it shouldn't be that goal? Why you didn't take any action? Maybe you're still stopping.

Speaker 1:

Always ask people if money wasn't involved in time and you could just have whatever, what would you do? What would it be? What would, when you take the struggle out of just a pure concept of implementing it to get it, what does that look like? What do you wanna do? So you have to show up first what you wanna do before you get to the point where you're gonna get it Before attaching any extreme level of commitment or dedication toward that goal. So, really, what I'm saying is you need a soul search, and that's what I do. I do that now, which I did that a lot younger but I'm soul searching and saying is that really what you wanna do? What really are you asking? What do you want? How do you want your life? How do you want your? How would that? What's the life looking like? How do you want your? How would that? What's the life looking like?

Speaker 1:

Um and this isn't meant to be a somber podcast, but just a reflective and a visionary one Get on fire. You know, when we're younger we tend to be more on fire for passionate about things, and then as we age, it can fire, kind of gets watered down, diminished some, but it's a way to reinvigorate that. So, and some things, you know, I let go, just let it go. So you know I don't no longer want to do that other thing. You know it's okay to change your mind, it's okay. But again, um, have commitment and dedication and go for it.

Speaker 1:

Successful people they're you know that word success. Their success is various levels. Again, you may not be a billionaire success or millionaire success, but well to do, well off, comfortable, where you're not stressing about counting pennies every time you want to go to a restaurant or a vacation. So that's where I'm at now reevaluating. I'm going to evaluate each month independently. Um, you know a separate score, but it's still reflective of the struggle and the walk of the journey you're on. So you know, I highly encourage you to not give up, but read it. Maybe you have to redefine yourself, that's okay. It's not considered failure.

Speaker 1:

Failure is when you just quit and stop all together and necessarily make a decision to stop, but it may not have been the right pathway for you. So when you watch all these gurus and all these people on YouTube and all this thinking, oh, that's a life I want to have, careful how you want to. When you say you want to be like someone else, if you get it, you know you say, oh, my God, I didn't know it really looked like this. And, um, be you, do you? It's okay to imitate and borrow um, six success tips and secrets and all that other stuff. But just remember uh, now, my show isn't just a finance show, it's not. It's about to get your act together show. So it's a uh show about the human experience and how we can improve that. That's what my show is about. The human experience um to be um intentional. Intentional, that's right. So that's it.
