I was certainly floored when I started conceiving the ideas for this show! With over 3 million podcasts worldwide (2023), there are shows about pretty much everything. In some cases, depending on the subject matter, there is even saturation! However, the actual art or skill or stories from podcasters and 'how they did it'...well, those shows are few and far between! And we're here to change that! So check out this the premier episode of Podcast Solutions Made Simple, a podcast all about podcasting!
I'm your host, Carl Richards and in this episode I'll share with you why this podcast, and what you can expect in future episodes.

Hey there, it's Carl Richards. So glad you are joining me on this first episode. We call this episode "00" in the podcasting world, by the way, Episode 00 of the brand new podcast that is about to be launched. It's called Podcast Solutions Made Simple, I want to give you a bit of a background on this. So you understand not only where I'm coming from, but also where this show is going to go and a lot of the things that you can expect from this show.
So let me give you my background, firstly, in podcasting, and speaking and how all that came to be. A bit of a background about myself, I spent 25 years in the world of radio, I love radio, still to this very day. Unfortunately, the industry has evolved in such a way that it's not non existent yet. But it is certainly with all of the options for people as far as how they can consume content, you know, that being digital downloads, streaming content from other sources, other than radio and television and things like that radio has become very archaic in some ways, as far as the delivery of it goes. Now, that's not why I got out of radio altogether, there were a number of reasons why I shifted to starting a part time business doing speaker training that was somewhere around 2011, I think is where that began. And that came as a result of being between radio gigs.
There's a standing joke that says, you haven't really worked in radio until you've been fired from at least one job. So I was in that situation where I had been let go from a position and was looking for something to do. And that's when somebody said, "Well, why don't you do speaker training? You're really good at speaking, and you know, you're doing this Toastmasters thing, why don't you do speaker training? A lot of people, I think, would benefit from what you can teach them." So that's kind of where that began. And early on into my business as a speaker trainer, one of my colleagues came up to me and said, you know, you should start a podcast. And I remember saying at that time, what's a podcast? Here it is. And by the way, this is being recorded in the spring of 2022. Hard to believe that I'm saying those words again. And I kind of chuckled because most people by this point, know or have some in depth knowledge of what a podcast is. But keep in mind, this is early 2011, podcasts were still in their infancy stages, there were not a lot of shows out there, maybe 50,000, maybe 100,000 shows. We're into the millions now or over 3 million podcasts worldwide. But back then, you know, there weren't a lot of shows out there.
And it took me probably another six and a half to seven years before I launched my own show. And at that point with my podcast was called Speaking Of Speaking, and it was a show that was designed to help coaches, consultants and other business owners, entrepreneurs become better at speaking, and presentation skills, all those things. So that's where that podcast was birthed from. And it was an addition of, or an extension to my existing business at the time, Carl Speaks which is still in existence, by the way. And I still have regular episodes on that podcast. As a matter of fact, we are well over the 5000 mark, we're probably close to 10,000 by the recording of this particular episode, but it was the pandemic, which really affected a lot of people around the world, in one way or another, especially independent business owners, you know, people who were already coaches and consultants and speaking on physical stages, they needed to find ways to speak on virtual stages.
And that's where this idea came from, to really help people get on podcast platforms, I had been through that process, I knew some of the hoops that had to be jumped through. And I knew that there was really no reason why more people didn't know about podcasting. And that's when I launched Podcast Solutions Made Simple, which is also the name of this podcast. And at that time, we originally started with just doing training, that was our focus training people how to launch their own podcasts. Well, I don't know about you. But there's an old saying that says do what you're good at, for the rest, hire somebody else. A podcast is definitely a commitment. There's no denying that. And when you're doing your own show, and also editing your own show, mixing it down, making sure you're doing all the promotion for it and all of the artwork and graphics and all that stuff. It can be very daunting. So I had people who had taken my program at the time called 60 days to launch and they started coming to me and asking if I could produce their show to which I said, "Yes, I can do that." Now I had no plans in place. I had no business model for this, but I knew it was possible. And I started the business Podcast Solutions Made Simple based on that.
So we quickly became a full podcast services agency that produces shows for coaches, consultants and other subject matter experts on a regular basis. To go along with that we do put a personal touch in it because of my background in radio, I feel that I can help people also with their presentation skills when it comes to how they are conducting their interviews, for example, or even just hosting their own shows. How can I make them sound better? So it's always the best version of themselves being put forward. So that's where that all came from. And then of course, this podcast was birthed out of the idea that well, if my business is really focused on helping people create world class podcasts, then I should have a podcast that also shares that information. Here's the interesting thing.
When I was doing my market research, there are a lot of podcasts out there. Like I said, there are well over 3 million podcasts now worldwide, but there are not a lot of podcasts about podcasting. So I thought this was a golden opportunity to step into that space and really share my experiences, my beliefs, and also the experiences of some of the clients that we have supported and help on a regular basis. So that's what this podcast is about.
What you can expect in the show is you can expect a lot of information about you know how to- how to create a show how to launch a podcast, but then also how do you do things like interview people and make it sound like they're not being interviewed, that it's just a conversation? How do you do that, we're also going to have guests on the show who share their expertise and their experiences, most of whom have their own podcasts, some of whom are more along the lines of seasoned guests. There are a lot of people who really spend a lot of their time not so much hosting their own shows, but making sure they're available to be on other people's podcast.
So that's a really good snapshot of what you can expect from the show and moving forward in future episodes what to expect what to look forward to. Now, as far as the length of these episodes, I suspect a lot of these episodes will be between 10 and 15 minutes, some may be shorter, some may be a little bit longer, but definitely there will be some amazing content in there for you. And if you ever have a question, my contact information will always be in the show notes, all the links and we'll be giving away gifts from time to time as well. You'll also have the opportunity to join our Patreon community where there will be some bonus content there for you too.
So that is episode 00. A synopsis of Podcast Solutions Made Simple and I'm looking forward to getting you podcast ready!
