Christine Singh

Emily Merrell
We're so excited to have you on our show. You're a second guest on this new podcast Ready Set coach podcast. And we're doing it a little differently because Lexie and I are actually in person today, which is bizarre. I feel like we're sharing an ice cream sundae.
Lexie Smith
I know this. Right? We're like each other. We're goals. But for anyone listening who didn't know normally we aren't together because I live in California. Emily's in Denver and where are you calling in from Christine.
Christine Singh
I'm calling in from San Francisco.
Lexie Smith
Holding down the California fort. Appreciate it.
Emily Merrell
So I need to be here we can rerecord this when you're here. So we can just like wait six hours. We're gonna get get going.
Christine Singh
Oh, man, I'm point I'll get there. So
Emily Merrell
seriously, tick tock, tick tock pitter patter as as they say, pitter patter? Well, in that vein, we are so excited to talk about you. And this isn't going to be about us today, although we love including us in a lot of conversation. But we want to talk about who you are. And can you just kick us off by letting us know who you are? And what is free with teen?
Christine Singh
Yeah, for sure. So I am a Chinese Canadian breathwork coach and intuitive guide. And so what that really means is, you know, I've been on this path have a bit of a spiritual awakening, my background was in PR and marketing for about a decade. And that was my career. And near the end of it, I got really burnt out. And I turned to meditation as a tool that I've just heard had a lot of benefits in terms of decreasing anxiety, releasing stress. And that really just got me on this whole path. And so when I started to meditate, it just really helped me as a person just, you know, find tools to just get through life a little bit easier. Like it doesn't always have to be so damn difficult. And I learned along my path that you know, the reason why things were so challenging was because I wasn't living my purpose. I wasn't living my I would say what, you know, the reason why I'm here on Earth, and so that took a lot of like self discovery, working with a lot of different energy healers and practitioners. And throughout that process, I ended up becoming trained in a couple of modalities that has really helped me and so one of those is breathwork meditation, which we I'm sure we'll dive into a little bit more during this episode. But it's a form of active meditation. And so for anyone who's done meditation before, and is like, I really struggle with it, I can't sit still for 10 minutes and, you know, not be inundated with all my thoughts. Well, breathwork is really incredible, because this whole experience where you really let your body take over and your mind take a backseat. And it has helped me so much and one of the most powerful tools that I've experienced. So I feel like I'm on this mission now to share with as many people as I can. And you know, for the ones who are ready for it, and the ones who are curious about it. And at the same time, I'm also a Reiki Master. And I am also doing intuitive readings. And so these are all tools that I use to really basically help us get in tune with our intuition so that we can lead our lives from a place of you know, our inner wisdom, our inner knowing and walking through life, not you know, just kind of like an asleep walking state. But really by listening to your gut because I truly feel that when you are in tune with Do your own intuition. You know, our intuition is always speaking to us. But we're so we're not trained to listen to our inner voices and our inner wisdom. So I feel like that's what I'm really here to help people do.
Lexie Smith
And I have to tell a quick little story on this. And I'm gonna do my best to not butcher this and visual give you guys a good visual. But the first time I air quotes, met, teen was on a zoom call, Emily introduced us and we were having a lovely chat and getting to know all about her background. Eventually, we started talking about ReadySet coach, and there was this moment where she said, You know what, I'm gonna take a moment and just tune in to myself, you probably said something more eloquent, but that's the vibe, and you sat there on camera, close your eyes, and I just had this moment of watching another human being connect with herself your energy, like radiated through the screen, every single goose bump on my body, like rose, and you opened your eyes calmly, and you're like, here's what, you know, my intuition is telling me and it was this experience that I I've never, ever witnessed. And it was so profound, and I wasn't even the one to read into my own intuition. So it's just a testament to you and how much work you've done in the fact that you can deliver that much power through a screen. Again, when you come into Denver. Actually, no.
Emily Merrell
Yeah, no one's kind of into it.
Lexie Smith
So kind of let's go a little bit more into let's start with breath work.
Emily Merrell
Yeah, yeah, I think breath work well. So I'm actually curious. First and foremost, like some you tried Breath, breath work before?
Lexie Smith
So I don't know if you know this story. Okay, well, the one time I've tried breathwork, it wasn't with you was not with you was at an event. And during the breathwork, I got my phone kept going off. And I like so much so that I had to look and it was my mom had called me like 10 times. And I'm like, what, and my dog of 16 years passed away during that. So it was very traumatizing experience. And I need to try breathwork again, because now I associate the two. So maybe we can have a breakthrough today together.
Christine Singh
I'm like, sorry, not a positive story.
Emily Merrell
No, but I think there's a replay, I'm gonna have you watch today of Christine's breathwork. Because there's something about the way that you lead people teen that just makes them feel like they're in a nest, like they're being held to like, the music, that it's a combination of the music, the flow, her voice is also the most soothing thing in the entire world. So it doesn't matter if you're wildly stressed out. There's just like trust built into your voice. So that's what our homework is.
Lexie Smith
Okay, so here I am, right? Well use me as the beta of a great first experience. Maybe someone listening never has done it before, or they had maybe not quite my experience, but it didn't go well. intimidated, intimidated by it, what would be the first thing you'd suggest? How can someone experience or dip their toes into the world of breathwork?
Christine Singh
Yeah, so it's really interesting. I think the story that you shared, I know that it was obviously, I'm sure traumatizing in the moment. And but I also feel like there's, you know, there's a reason, and I'll say that everything happens for a reason. But it's like in terms of like, I don't I just think it's really interesting that that happened. Like when you were in the breath work class, like, I don't know, if you just kind of up and left at that time, but it's also breathwork is such a opportunity to release. And it's, I don't know, I just feel like there's there was something there that
Lexie Smith
put me in a different headspace to receive the news, actually, now that I'm like, thinking back on it.
Christine Singh
Yeah. And then also for you to just like release in that moment. Like everything that was coming up. I mean, that's just wow. Yeah, that's really tough. I'm so sorry. I've also had
Emily Merrell
and then that's the downer episode. Okay, so the first time I did breathwork, I think I've told you this a million times teen but I went in thinking like, Oh, we're going to a sound bath meditation. It was before you even I think started dabbling in breathwork. It was right at the edge. I think you starting in May when it went into this place with a friend from San Francisco, who's a very non woowoo friend, I would say, and I was like, this is going to be great. We're going to just meditate and listen to pretty music. And that's it. And we were the first ones there. And this individual asked the leader of the breathwork asked, Have we ever done breath work before? And I was like, Of course I can't breathe every day on yoga. You know, I made all these assumptions, not really thinking more of it because you don't know what you don't know. Yeah. And he then starts explaining to the whole class like with the changes of your body The witch I want you to lead us in in a second and let tell us what they are. But after the Our experience was over, my friend and I were hysterically crying and hysterically laughing all within an hour, and it was the most liberating feeling, mind body spirit that I had had, and just like crave to recreate it over and over again. So can you walk us through like the physical changes that breathwork can yield on an individual?
Christine Singh
Yeah, so let me take a step back and just kind of explain and set the context here is that, you know, breathwork is such a umbrella term, right, or there's so many different types of breath work. And so the specific kind of breath work that I do is based on the pranayama technique, and it's taught by David Elliot, and I was also trained by revelation breathwork, I think it's important to mention the teachers just so you know, like the lineage of the work and, and basically, it's a conscious, connected technique. And so normally, if I'm like leading a group through breathwork, it or an individual, it's the the format is you do about 20 to 30 minutes of active breathing, and then you get to rest for about five to 10 minutes. And so during the act of breath, it's basically if you guys want to follow along, you can place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. And we're going to be breathing all through our mouth. And so you're going to do it, inhale through your belly first. Inhale through your chest, and then an exhale. Do that a few more times, belly, chest, exhale, le, chest, exhale. And so that's basically the breath that you repeat over and over again. And while you do this, there's a lot of things that can happen. And it's common. And it's also very different experience for everybody. And also, if you've done breath work before, it can be a different experience every time. And so a couple of things are you can feel tingles, kind of just vibrate through your whole body, you can feel it like vibrations, you can feel movement, like you want to move. And so I really encourage, like when people are during my class to just, you know, they're in the driver's seat. So I give them the full autonomy to like give themselves like really what they need, you might get hot, you might get cold, so it's nice to like, have a blanket nearby. I've done breath work before where I was, like, drenched in sweat. But again, it doesn't happen time, it's really just what is coming up for you in that moment, and what your body needs. I mean, our bodies are so intelligent. And so we're really giving it an opportunity to just release all this stuck and stagnant energy. And so what's happening when you're doing this breath is, you know, we're pulling up our breath from our body. And so as women, we we actually hold a lot of our sticky emotions in our hips. And so, you know, whether we're feeling if it's sadness, or fear, or guilt or shame, regret, you know, we push it down, because we don't want to deal with these emotions, not fun, right? And, and so what ends up happening is it can all the stress that we're, you know, that our body remembers and is stuck in our body can cause flare ups and other ways. And so, oftentimes, if someone's like, you know, going through like a health issue, or something that can't be explained, they've like, gone to a million doctors and like, they just have no idea. Like, I had chronic hives for a long, long time. And it was triggered by stress, you know, so. But, you know, after doing breath work, it was just it gave us opportunity to help bring up all of this stuck and stagnant energy. So it has an opportunity to release. And so as you're doing the breath work for 20 to 25 minutes. One point, I also encourage people to let out a big sound. And so that can be a hoot, a holler or cry. I also love bringing joy and laughter into my classes. So, you know, I encourage everybody to get let out a big belly laugh. And it's just a way for you to help move the energy that you are, you know, building up and releasing. And so at the end of it, you get about five to 10 minutes to rest. And honestly, during that time again, it's different for everybody. But, you know, for me, I know I kind of have an out of body experience and I'm like, not really there. I'm like floating in like the ether. And, you know, I don't come back until like the very end when the instructor is like, okay, and I'll bring your body back. And so we're in and I'm like, wow, I had no idea where I went. But you know, and again, it's it's, it's really different for everybody. So I don't know if that happened with you and when you were doing your breath work if you've been experience any of that
Emily Merrell
all of all of those feelings that you described from the wall you didn't even describe the the lobster hands, the tingle of your hands just kind of class been together. And then I've had the hot I've had the cold I've had the out of body I've had the, again euphoria type of feeling and also just like a cathartic release. But I actually had a question for you teen in terms of when you work with clients as a coach. What What kind of transformations have you been able to see from your clients working and doing work with them over a longer duration of time?
Lexie Smith
You're way better at visuals than me. So why don't you kick this off? Okay, so guys,
Emily Merrell
close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Now imagine that you're living on an island sipping spicy margaritas in between coaching calls effortlessly signing 10k months?
Lexie Smith
Well, doesn't that sound like every other Facebook and Instagram ad you've seen from coaches? The reality for most new coaches, you find yourself spending countless hours searching for your ideal clients doing all the free trainings and working tirelessly as you attempt to differentiate yourself in a saturated market way to be a
Emily Merrell
buzzkill. Relax, but yes, that's way more accurate. However,
Lexie Smith
what if? What if what what
Emily Merrell
is the magic formula to building a profitable and sustainable coaching business? Didn't have to be so complicated? What if attaining your version of a dream life didn't have to remain on your faraway someday list? What if someone took the time to sift through all the crap that's out there and finally created a program built specifically and only for well intentioned and qualified coaches and coaches to be just like you?
Hey, we did that. That's what I'm getting at LAX.

Yeah, and so it's been really amazing, just to see some of the transformations. And I know, for myself, just sharing my story is, you know, I feel like breathwork really helped me just again, get back in tune with myself, the feeling that I have after breath work is I feel so light, I usually feel a lot lighter. And there's a lot of clarity, it's often you know, you go into the class and your mind is just so cluttered with all of your to dues, everything that you have coming up, you know, maybe you're thinking about something from the past things that you should have said, and I feel like what breathwork helps you do is just cut out all of this noise and just reconnect you with yourself. And it's almost like you're in this like, really special bubble. And it gives your inner voice an opportunity to come out and you know, an opportunity for you to listen to it. And so for me, I felt like I was able to let go of a lot of fear, like a lot of doubt. And it gave me the courage and you know, it and it gave me the courage that I have within it, but a reconnected me back with my own courage that I have, that we all have, you know, the strength that I have within, to be able to take the leap of leaving my corporate job at that time, like that was the thing that I was trying to work towards. And, you know, also like, just following my path, and I knew that that was a step that I had to take. And so that took a lot of guts, and it was really scary. And but I felt like just so supported, you know, one of the things that have can happen to depending on how spiritually connected you are is like, a lot of the practice I often, you know, through my own practice, I bring in a lot of my, my spirit guides, my ancestors, you know, angels, you know, so that it's like, we're not ever walking through this life alone, you're always protected by your loved ones, you know, and so it just really helped me strengthen that connection, and gave me a lot of confidence. And so with my clients, you know, I've seen just so much like there's, you know, a lot of people that I work with are often perhaps stuck at some point and of where they want to go in their life, whether it's, they want to find a career that is more aligned with their their joy and their passion. And, and I really see it as a step by step process, you know, it's not like an overnight thing. You do breath work once and you're like, Okay, I'm ready to quit my job. You know? It's it's like you're finding all these different pieces of yourself as you do the breath work. And so Oh, maybe, you know, one time you do the breath work and, you know, your, your record, like so I'll give you an example one of someone that has, that I've been working with for a while, and she's been attending a lot of my breathwork events. You know, every time it's like getting her closer and closer to like her, you know, her soul. And so I know that she was personally going through a tough like relationship that she had that was honestly toxic. And she, you know, it's, she knew that in her gut. But I think there are so many times that we kind of justify situations that we're in, and, you know, we make ourselves feel better to make ourselves feel better about it. And so just that one time that we did breathwork, together, the last time that we did it, it happened to be the same day that she actually had a fight with her boyfriend. And through the breath work, she was able to find peace with it, and realize that, you know, this is not how I am meant to be treated, you know, I deserve more, I am worthy of more. And so, you know, there's been times where in the past, like she has broken up with him, but then they got back together. And I'm just so happy for her that like, you know, that breathwork session gave her what she needed to actually move on. And now they're no longer together, and she's so much happier. And she's radiant. It's it's really, really incredible to see.
Lexie Smith
That's like, I mean, you changed her life that this is a tool that changed her life, which is like, sign me up, Emily, we're gonna do this recording later. Yeah. I'm in
Emily Merrell
with wine or without wine gene.
Lexie Smith
Later, fair enough, I have a kind of follow up question to that. Because it sounds like when one of my questions coming into this podcast today was tips, generally speaking on how to tune in to your intuition. I will say breath work seems like a great way to do that. Are there other things you would advise in addition to breath work ways to tune out the noise and tune in? Like I witnessed you do it that witnessed you do it the story I shared top of show? Yeah, totally.
Christine Singh
And I appreciate you saying that. Because, you know, for someone who's never done breathwork before that can feel like a lot, you know, to like sign up for something like that. Yeah, and there's definitely ways you know, I think the first I'll share, you know, just my example of how I felt like I first gotten in touch with my intuition is, I was, you know, once I started meditating, you know, whenever I feel stressed out, kind of, I used to calm app, and I would put on like, a 10 minute meditation. And so one day, when I was having a tough day at work, I was like, I'm gonna go for a walk, you know, just 1015 minutes. And instead of, you know, having a destination in mind of where I wanted to go, you know, so often, like, when we, you know, are heading somewhere we like, plug into Google Maps, like, you get to from point A to point B, and we just literally are following blindly like, you know, it's just this, this app is like, giving us these arrows and telling us where to go. So I said instead, okay, let me just let my body tell me where I should go. And so I went off for a walk, and it's like, okay, I'm at this intersection, should I go left straight or right? And I just take a look, and I'm like, Okay, it's, I feel like I should go, right? You know, for whatever reason, like, there, don't overthink it, right, just like just move and do it. And then, you know, I kept doing that for every turn. And then within 10 minutes, I was somehow by the water, which was incredible, because I've never gone this path before. And I never Google Maps would have never told me that way. But ended up being exactly what I needed in that moment. And, you know, that's just like a really small example of how you can do this. And I really feel like tuning into your intuition is it's a muscle, the more that you listen to it, the more that you trust yourself, you know, and that's the other thing too, is like, trusting that the intuition is right. Oftentimes, it's not logical. It doesn't make sense, you know, but if it's coming from, you know, I feel my intuition within my belly. If it's coming from there, then I know that okay, like that, I should, you know, listen to that part of me. And, you know, one other thing that I will share too, that people can do like right away as well, is just give yourself breaks during the day. So, if there's times when you're feeling like, you know, there's just so many things on your mind, and you need to take you know, you're just like not thinking clearly. One really great way that I like to, you know, just take a pause is just like right from where I am, you know, whether I'm in my house or my desk or are in front of the sink, I just close my eyes. And I just take a couple of deep breaths, you can take three to five deep breaths. And then as you're breathing, you can just imagine, you know, just find where your feet are, just pay attention to where your feet and you know, feeling where it makes contact with the ground. If you'd like you can imagine roots that are growing from the base of your feet. And just giving yourself like, even just a minute to do that can really, really help you ground route and center yourself.
Lexie Smith
Literally doing less, you're driving down.
Christine Singh
Yeah, why don't we take a moment?
Lexie Smith
Actually, everyone, this is what we'll do. Yeah, everyone, press pause on this recording. And we want you to do that, again, unless you're driving. And then we're gonna give you like five seconds to do that. We're gonna be quiet five seconds, then come back to us. Let's do it.
Christine Singh
Alright, so you can pay attention to see, you know, how, how are you feeling in this moment? Are you feeling any different? I saw you guys were doing it. Did you notice? Do you notice anything?
Emily Merrell
I just feel like I always appreciate that reset when I give it to myself, and recognize that my heart beating too fast or whatnot. So yeah, I felt I felt very grounded when doing that. And definitely it was a friendly reminder to add more of those pauses throughout the day.
Lexie Smith
Yeah. So I mean, this was just a taste of all the different tools that you have in your tool belt. How can people officially work with you?
Christine Singh
Yeah. So currently, right now I'm actually in a transition. And so the last couple of years, I've really been focusing on mastering my craft. And now I feel like I'm ready to help people. Take them through a longer, you know, transformation. And so I am stepping into one on one coaching and also group coaching which is really exciting. And I just so for people who are on the podcast right now I'm in Lexie are literally fist pumping in there, which is
Lexie Smith
your we put the confetti emoji on zoom with everything.
Emily Merrell
And why are we doing that team?
Christine Singh
Yeah, so I'm starting to coach. And so I, again, I'm really just motivated and inspired to hold these containers for people as they go through, you know, shifts and transformations in their own lives. And so one of the things that I'm starting to do is actually going to be and I don't know when this will be published, but I will be one of the CO healer practitioners, co creating this year long container with my friend Stephanie from little scraps of magic. And we're going to be holding space for women as they go through their own transformations and evolutions. And that is an example of a way that you can work with me that is coming up September 2022, all the way to September 2023. At the same time, I have a number of events and retreats that are happening. And it's really exciting. I have a vision of you know, going global with it. And right now, I have a couple of retreats and events that are coming up locally in San Francisco, I have something coming up a mini retreat in Hawaii in September of 2022. And I know that this is just the beginning and there's going to be so much more so I encourage you to just check me out on my website at breathe with teen.com I'm also at breathe with teen on Instagram. And if you sign up for my mailing list, that's usually where I will share all the upcoming events and things and I will also send you a mini guided breathwork meditation that's like about 10 minutes long that you can just do on your own and just test it out.
Lexie Smith
