Speaker 1:

Today, we're going to talk about prayer, praise and worship. Those are things that sometimes people don't realize, that there's a big difference between them. A lot of people, when you think about prayer, the first thing they think of is the Lord's prayer, and the Lord's prayer was an example of how to pray, not the words we were supposed to say. Matthew 6, 5 through 15 says and when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men, assuredly. I say to you that they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father, who is in the secret place, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore, do not be like them, for your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him In this manner. Therefore, pray Our Father in heaven. Hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. One for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. That is an example of how to pray.

Speaker 1:

God didn't give us the words to pray because everybody's life is different. Everybody's needs are different. What he's saying is this is the manner in which you're supposed to pray, and if you read that, you will see that we need to address our Father. Our prayers go to God and before we do anything, we should praise Him and we should recognize His holiness. And then we should pray that His kingdom comes. Isn't that what we all want? His kingdom to come? And then, in everything that you pray for that you ask you should always ask it as it's in God's will, not our will you should pray for spiritual fulfillment, or you should bring your petitions or your requests to God. Then you should ask for forgiveness and you should forgive those who have done things against you. You should ask Him to keep you from sin, to keep us from Satan, to protect us, and then you should praise Him again, and all of this needs to be done in the name of Jesus Christ. That's what the Lord's prayer is telling you. It's not telling you to repeat these words over and over and over, because, just like the first part of that scripture says, when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do. You don't just keep repeating every day is a new day, you're living, you have different things going on. That one prayer is not a cover of everything prayer. And then if you look at John 17, 1, 3, 26 and I'm not going to read it all, I'm sorry. Please, guys, go out and read this.

Speaker 1:

This is a scripture that I probably knew was there, but I never really paid a lot of attention to it until I was looking for scriptures on prayer and I read this and it's the prayer that Jesus prayed. And again it's in John 17, 1 through 26. First he prays for himself, he prays to God. He's talking about it was time to glorify him and glorify the Son, and and that's what he prays for. The next section of it, he prays for his disciples, those that God had given him and the work that they're doing. He prays for them.

Speaker 1:

The part that I will read is the last part from 1st 20 and 21. It's he prays for believers. He doesn't just pray for the believers that will hear the word of the disciples. He prays for us, and this is what touched me so greatly when I was, when I was reading this. 1st 20 says I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in me through their words. That they may all be one as you, father, are in me and I in you. That they also may be one in us. That the world may believe that you sent me.

Speaker 1:

Anyone who believes the words that the disciples said they're in the scripture, we believe those words, we believe what they say. Jesus said. We believe that Christ prayed for us 2,000 years ago. He's praying for us. Is that wonderful? Well, can you not read that? It'd be so emotional realizing that he was praying for me. That brings tears to my eyes.

Speaker 1:

But that's prayer. That's prayer is supplication. Prayer is asking and praising and requesting and forgiveness. That's what prayer is for. But, on the other hand, we have praise, and I had someone ask me what's the difference? Like I said, prayer is supplication, praise is for God and it's worship. We can praise our children. So instead of using the word praise, maybe we should use the word worship, because we worship God. Worship comes from within us, we worship in our spirits, and it's only only for God. You lose yourself in the love between you and God when you worship. Worship gets to the heart of who we are in Christ. If you really want to worship God, you have to let go of yourself, you have to allow him to be in control, you have to humble yourself. You have to worship him, as the scripture says, in spirit and in truth. You can worship by singing, you can worship by crying, you can worship by praising. There is always to worship Me. I worship, I sing. But when you sing you're not thinking about anything but that love that God gives you, that fills your spirit, that fills your soul, fills your mind and your body.

Speaker 1:

Luke 19, 37, talks about praising God. It says then, as he was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. He's in heaven, and glory to the highest. Some of the Pharisees called to Jesus from the crowd and said Teacher, rebuke your disciples. But he answered them and said I tell you that if these should keep quiet, the stones would immediately cry out the world rejoices, the world worships.

Speaker 1:

I think the one thing that when I think of worship, I think of a tree and how a tree worships God every day, with its branches reaching upward. And when I planted a tree after my husband died the guys that were planning it I told them it was in memory of my husband. And when they got done planning it, they told me and brought me to tears that just like your husband reached to heaven, the branches of this tree will do the same. And I thought that was one of the most beautiful things I ever heard anybody say. And it's true. You know, we need to be silent as the trees Sometimes. We need to reach heaven with our worship. We can't worship without letting go of ourselves. If you remember the woman at the well that Jesus talked to, and they would talk about worshiping on the mountain or that you should only worship in Jerusalem. Jesus said to her woman believe me, the hour is coming when you will, neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. This is where he says God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. We just talked about that a minute ago.

Speaker 1:

How do we praise? How do you praise? I know you guys can't answer me, but if you would want to comment on Facebook or on my website and let me know how do you praise, do you praise? Did you know there was a difference between prayer and praise? Do you want to learn how to praise God?

Speaker 1:

In Romans 12, 1 through 2, it says I beseech you therefore, brother, and by the miracles of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice wholly acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds that you may prove what is good and acceptable and the perfect will of God. And how do you renew your mind? You renew your mind by praising God, by worshiping Him, by praying to Him. All these things work together. Hebrews 13 15 says this. Therefore, by Him, let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God. God is the fruit of our lips. Giving thanks to His name.

Speaker 1:

I love this scripture. And I love this scripture because it reminds me so much of the song that I sing when I praise God and I don't know how many of you know who my God can says, or if you've heard the song, adoration, but I'm going to give you the words to it and, if you get a chance, go somewhere and listen to this song, find it where you can on Amazon, spotify, wherever it may be. But the song says praise, praise, praise, praise, praise to the one who sent us his son Praise, praise, praise, praise. In one accord, we praise you, o Lord. There is no other name above you. Blessed be your name.

Speaker 1:

God of Jacob, shepherd of Israel. Holy unto your name. Holy unto your name. Glory and honor and power unto the Lord, our God, god of Abraham, faithful and true Holy. Holy are you, son of righteousness and the Lamb who was slain. You're the lily of the valley. You're my bright and morning star. You're the beginning and the end. You're the everlasting Father. You're the God, god of all glory. You're my healer and the King of kings, my deliverer and my friend. You're the sweet rose of Sharon. You're all love and you're all power. You're merciful and you're mighty. You're the redeemer of all mankind. You're the lion, the lion of Judah. You're the ruler of this whole universe. You're the most high Messiah. You're the soon coming King. Holy, holy is your name.
