There are events that are key events after which things do not seem the same as they were before. An example that comes to mind is the first cycle of Feldenkrais studies that took place in a basement on Alexander Yanai Street in Tel Aviv under the guidance of Dr. Feldenkrais. The graduates of the first cycle passed the Torah on and became a legend. I am reminded of this when I read about the first course of the Food Forests that took place in Moshav Kidron, near Gedera.
The forest was established in the fall of 2011 by Hadas Hochberg and Saar Oestreicher as a site for research, development, and demonstration. Today, it is a mature forest and a model for sustainable agriculture inspired by the Mediterranean forest, consciously designed for human benefit.
That same year, in 2011, the New Forest also hosted the first course on edible forests, which produced enthusiastic graduates who continued to spread the Torah, to the point where dozens of edible forests now exist in Israel. One of the graduates whose lives were changed is Eyal Engelmeier, owner of the Bostanika company, which specializes in growing edible plants in the city. His father is still a gardener, but it was only after he encountered edible forests 14 years ago that he was captivated by the magic of growing food on his own, and he hasn't stopped since. Today, he maintains edible forests, but also establishes orchards on rooftops and balconies. Eyal Engelmeier is the guest of the episode. We argued a bit, he brought me down to earth a bit with all my fantasies, but it was interesting.
