Let's get weird and let's have some fun. This is the Observation Station and now your host, tommy Heights.

Speaker 2:

Welcome, welcome, welcome back to the Observation Station. Folks, it's your host, tommy Heights, steering today's conversation into an exciting lane the world of luxury versus economy vehicles. So today that's going to be taking the fast lane and the budget track Deep dive into luxury versus economy vehicles. So, whether you're all about the glitz and performance or you lean towards value and efficiency, there's much to explore about our choices on the road. Speaking of choices, I'm currently behind the wheel of a 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid with a hefty 220,000 miles on the odometer. I mean talk about reliability. But as much as I love my trusty Camry, I'm also eyeing the future, especially considering the leaps in the safety features and technology. It'd probably be a little bit wiser here and maybe you know one, not one year, two years or something like that to get a vehicle with a backup camera, the lane assist and all this other stuff. It's actually pretty helpful. I've been in some vehicles and think, whoa, how do you not drive with this stuff? Especially as the years get on, with the newer technology that it's going to make it more and more safe to be on the road here. So let's also eye into the future here, dive into what's going to set these automotive worlds apart and maybe help me and you decide which lane we might need to choose next.

Speaker 2:

So what defines luxury and economy vehicles? First up, let's paint the picture of luxury vehicles. Think Mercedes-Benz, bmw, audi, tesla names that spell out status, advanced technology and comfort level that justifies their higher price tag. So it's not just the prestige, it's the innovation and quality they bring to the road. Then there's the economy lane, where the Camry firmly resides. It's like Toyota, honda and Ford Focus on value, fuel efficiency and reliability. I mean maybe the Ford F-150, that's kind of how I would like to put it. I used to have a Ford Taurus a 04. Do not get it, unless that's like all you can get, because the thing has some giddy up with a V6. Other than that, it's a terrible gas mileage. You look at it as a reliable vehicle if you need to at least commute over 30 minutes to work. So If you think economical means bare bones, think again. The technology gap between luxury and economy is narrowing. It's making the features like touch screen infotainment systems and advanced safety features more accessible than ever.

Speaker 2:

One of the things when I was a young guy you know, in 1999, I was in kindergarten one of my classmates. Their father had a Mercedes C-Class. It was the first time I actually saw a built-in GPS system, and when they said GPS, I had no idea what it was, and they're like well, that means global positioning system. Never have heard of that. You were looking at it like is this a video game? It was so confusing what was going on when you saw the GPS. Now you think of it oh my God, that is such a rudimentary thing that you're using. It's amazing how we looked at that at the time and the game was like whoa, this is crazy, just like the video games. Back in the day, we're playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Thinking how much better can these graphics get? So much better. I mean, look now, especially the Grand Theft Auto 6, that's going to be coming out. The whole world is going to stop when that game comes out next year. It's just going to be mayhem. People are going to lose their jobs because they're going to stop coming to work. It's going to be something of a magnitude that we've probably never seen since 2009, when people were doing the campouts for Modern Warfare 2.

Speaker 2:

So the luxury experience is different, obviously, than a car that gets you from A to B. They're about how you feel on that journey from A to B. They offer a smoother ride, premium interiors and cutting edge technology for an unrivaled driving experience, and with performance to match their looks. Luxury vehicles are about making a statement on every single level. Think about it like this you have the people that like to drive a luxury vehicle straight up just black, silver, white. Then you have the people that like to wrap it in exotic colors like bright purple or bright candy red. These are people that have different experiences that they want with their vehicle. Some want to show it off, some want to stay subtle and it's more like a fine suit. That you just know. But with the Mercedes it's a little bit easier to see. You know the luxury vehicle, especially if it's a maintained car and it's unrivaled in the driving experiences, like a Lexus LS, the large sedans. There's a reason you pay for these kinds of experiences, with the performance. It matches the looks I mean.

Speaker 2:

Luxury vehicles are about making a statement on every single level. Let's not take this for granted here to say, oh no, you know, I like it for just the way it drives. Okay, that may be, but a lot of people just get a vehicle just because it makes them feel superior to others. They may not even have it where it's an affordable option. It's just stretching the limit of their credit line to have something they barely can even afford the gas for. And the economy edge is not to be underestimated also.

Speaker 2:

I'll give the example again of my Camry. It's a testament to the reliability and efficiency that Toyota vehicles have to offer. With today's technology advancements, economy cars are smarter and safer than ever. Features like backup cameras, lane keeping assist once exclusive only to the luxury models, are becoming standard, making the upgrade not just a want but a wise decision for safety. Nowadays, one of the coolest things I had seen and this is you know, if anybody's listening and has a new car, they're like Tommy, what are you talking about? Well, first off, I'm dealing with 2012 technology, so that's when I graduated high school.

Speaker 2:

It's a very well maintained vehicle. The paint has a couple of chips here and there, here and there, but overall, if you really look at it, it's aged very nicely, just keep car washes and maintenance and whatnot. But it's not like a looker. But no, toyota really is a looker. So, with what it is, that I choose to do is really because I don't want to have it where there's a payment. A lot of people are broke just because they have the car payments, which is a depreciating liability on their banknote. Plus, you have to have insurance for it, don't forget about that. So that's another thing. And when you have a car that is a luxury vehicle, the insurance goes up because it is a more expensive vehicle to insure.

Speaker 2:

There's a lot of things that I'm thinking to myself well, is this a vehicle for business purposes or personal purposes? Because then you can have it where. I'm not a tax professional but, for instance, it could be looked at by a accountant. If you have a car for business purposes, you can write off the miles and do X, y and Z to make that actually a business asset, even though the car is going down in value. So choose them between luxury and economy. It's really making the choice. It's a preference. Some people want to have it where they lease the vehicle someone own. This is really the episodes between luxury and economy. It comes down to what you value most in your driving experience. For me, the reliability of my Camry has been unbeatable, but as the safety features evolve, the appeal of upgrading for those added protections become more compelling, whether you're drawn to innovation of luxury vehicles or the value of technological strides in the economy sector, it's about finding the right fit for your lifestyle and safety needs. Look, you want to get into a Dodge Caravan.

Speaker 2:

I've never seen a man that gets into one of those minivans and looks like, when he's by himself, a genuinely happy person. He might have it where his lady's on the side there and he's all like, hey, you know, oh right, this is gonna be awesome. Oh, my god, oh, you know, I'm gonna be paying a lot of money for this vacation. You know one of those things you just never see a guy that's in a minivan, just straight up, smiling right next to you. It's always just some dude that's cutting you off aggressively and it's always the dude. You never see a lady in a minivan. That's one thing. Cutting you off aggressively, it's always the dude. I mean no dude ever. Ask your man. No man has ever had it where he had a poster on his wall of a Honda Odyssey and be like, oh man, I'm gonna strive to get that beauty right there Now. I mean I draw the line right there. I don't I. If it's a van, then we get a sprinter or something like that.

Speaker 2:

But none of these, none of these garbage Dodge products, you know, is anyways. But yeah, I mean whether you're drawn to the the high end or the mid ground. I'm not really into the low end because I actually want to live and get to where I need to be. But it's all about, like I said, right fit for your lifestyle and safety needs. If you have children, you don't want to be having it where you got that old Honda hatchback that's got the big, you know loud and exhaust pipe. Yeah, you know, in like two different colored doors May want to have it where you upgrade a little bit. So Well, that's the end of our road.

Speaker 2:
