Shep didn’t have any easy past; having dealt with the death of his biological mom and the woman who became like his mom at a young age really shaped who he was and could have sent him spiraling had he not had such a powerful role model in his life at the time. Shep shares his desire to be that same positive symbol for inner-city youth and show them that through discipline and hard work, you can truly be whoever you want to be.
