Welcome to season 2 of our podcast for bite-sized PD to encourage innovative learning practices in your classroom. Some of our topics may be tech-related. Some may be classroom practices. Some may be inspiring stories from teachers down the hall or across the road from you!
INNOVATE - How can we try something new – either new apps, tools, or resources – and share new learning with others?
We're kicking off the new year with a series on the Edutopia article titled "The 10 Most Significant Education Studies of 2023." Our first topic is "A Fascinating Guide to Better Quizzing." The study, authored by experienced teachers and researchers in 2023, emphasizes the importance of frequent, varied, and engaging testing formats like multiple choice, cued-recall, and knowledge contests to improve long-term retention and create robust retrieval routes for information, known as the testing effect. It highlights strategies such as using competitive answer alternatives, pretesting on unfamiliar material, communal testing to reduce anxiety, and teaching students self-testing techniques to enhance learning and retention.
