Speaker 1:

Welcome to Eden and Amadeus. The podcast.

Speaker 2:

We've got a couple of fun things for you. First of all, you always will get the Battle of the Sexes for the week, and we had four episodes this week of the battle because you were off on.

Speaker 1:

Monday oh yeah, I was just sitting there going. Why do we only have four?

Speaker 2:

We also have cheat codes that you can use in real life. When I first saw this article, I thought it was about video game cheat code, so I didn't delve into it. But then, upon your prompting, I read it and I thought these are really good I've never heard cheat codes in a.

Speaker 1:

I don't.

Speaker 2:

I don't play video games, so I didn't know what that was ah, so the other thing is that you saw Twisters, which opens this weekend.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

You're listening to this podcast when it dropped and you had thoughts on it, but definitely you think it's worth seeing right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it starts off kind of slow and I was a little worried. The dialogue's not great and the acting's not really really great, but the special effects the hurricanes, the tornadoes, the clouds, all that stuff mind-boggling and it gets good, and then it gets better, then it gets over-the-top fun.

Speaker 1:

So, it's exactly what you want in a summer movie, and real quick. I just want to mention the reason I was off on Monday. I was going to see the new Sammy Hagar tour. If you're anywhere in the country where that show's going to be, it is phenomenal. One of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life. Okay, it's like a greatest hits of Sammy Hagar and Van Halen. So it is just a lot of fun for rock and roll fans.

Speaker 2:

Okay. So the real life, the 15 real life cheat codes they are. Some of them are just kind of like really deep and for example, admit your mistakes quickly and without undue apologies. People will trust you more and you'll move on from the mistake faster. I think we've seen that yeah everywhere. Look at ingrid andrews. I mean, after she did the national anthem and everyone was just butchering it.

Speaker 1:

She immediately apologized, did something about it, went into rehab I like to live this way, especially in my work life, because when I when there's one position here that I do, that I was new at, and when I'd make a mistake, I would go to everyone involved and be like hey guys, I screwed up, this is what happened, it won't happen again. But yeah, admit it and move on, and it's a lot easier to sleep.

Speaker 2:

Number two is classic a lot easier to sleep. Number two is classic Diarrhea is the best excuse to get out of anything, because nobody questions it and no one expects you to go to a doctor for it. They certainly don't need the details.

Speaker 1:

No, they certainly don't. I think that's such a.

Speaker 2:

I think if you just say I'm having tummy issues and it's southbound, that's all you need.

Speaker 1:

I love number three Don't enter the recipients of an email's name until after it's written and ready to send. That way you don't accidentally send one that's not quite ready to go. I've done that before and then you've got to go back and like say, oh, I meant to say all of this and that's annoying as heck.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly, I love that. Confidence can get you super far, even if it's an act. There is definitely something to be said for humility, but when you go into a situation with confidence, it's like I used to say if you have a clipboard in your hand, you can walk right by people. I mean, if you just have that look of purpose. Like you know what you're doing, you're holding a clipboard or you're wearing an orange vest.

Speaker 1:

No one's ever going to stop someone with a clipboard. They're going to be like oh he knows what he's doing.

Speaker 2:

He's got to check something off.

Speaker 1:

He's right to it.

Speaker 2:

I'll be impeding his progress if I stop him.

Speaker 1:

I love number five. Talk about people behind their back positively.

Speaker 2:

That never happens, I don't think that's actually number six, number five, but I do. The only reason I point that out is because I really like number five, so I'm going to go back to that. But I actually I think that some of the best compliments you can get are when they're behind your back. So when we do, when I do have a conversation with somebody in a positive way which I do quite often I always try to go back and tell them listen, this was a conversation that happened behind your back and the only reason I'm telling you is compliments behind your back. Feel so good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I always think of this in the context of being like a wingman, like if you've got a buddy that you know is interested in someone, like go behind his back and say great things about him to that person.

Speaker 2:

You know what?

Speaker 1:

I mean.

Speaker 2:

Like okay.

Speaker 1:

Like it's kind of like oh, I got his back. Yeah, a hype man, here's something you don't know about him that's really positive and upbeat.

Speaker 2:

Ah yeah, but people like talking about themselves more than they like hearing about you. So if you interact with people for work, memorize one thing about them, maybe a kid's name, a sport they like, a hobby, they do their job or whatever. I wanted to go back to that one because I'm reading a book right now by it's called being Henry and it's by Henry Winkler and he was talking about. This is what he said. He I just read this yesterday. He said that when you go talk to somebody, like in a job interview situation or like a director or a casting person, try to find something in their audience or their audience in their office, or something that is about them, and ask them about it, because they're going to talk to so many people in the conversation they're going to remember is the one that was about themselves.

Speaker 1:

Wow, he's been making the talk show circuit and I've been watching him on different shows that I he is so entertaining and loved. I love that guy so much. This is another great one. Have friends generation, generationally older and younger than yourself.

Speaker 2:

That's really good for if you play team trivia too. Oh yeah, I always tell people when they show up at trivia and they've got like a couple of young people, a couple of older people, but it's fun to have friends. I have a couple of neighbors that are older ladies, they're widows, and we do cocktail hours in our cul-de-sac at least once a month and I love these ladies. They are so funny.

Speaker 1:

I love hanging out with a younger crowd because I always am interested in new music, Like that's like my thing. I want to know what. What are the kids listening to these days? I, that's how I get. I feel like I get most of my cultures from the music, younger music, and so I totally, I totally agree with that one.

Speaker 2:

So let's see where that lands us on number eight. When reheating rice in the microwave, put a little water in the bowl. That is so random but such a good piece of advice.

Speaker 1:

But such a good piece of advice. It is very random and great advice. All right If you have something nice to say to someone like you think they did something neat.

Speaker 2:

or you have a cool shirt they did something neat.

Speaker 1:

That was really neat what you just did. I know as I'm reading that I'm like does anyone say neat anymore, make, make. If they're making good choices or whatever? It's generally good to say to say it, not wait till later, like just get it out there, right.

Speaker 2:

But if you have a criticism, then wait. Make people laugh within a minute of meeting them, because they'll remember you and help you. That's easier said than done hmm, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I think if, like when you first meet someone, usually it's at like a party or some kind of event and I think it's easy to make someone laugh I guess maybe because I have a little bit of nervousness too and that makes me want to come out and make them laugh.

Speaker 2:

If you want to change the subject in a conversation, discreetly but noticeably, drop something, make it look accidental. It will break their train of thought and allow you to restart the conversation. You know, that's almost like a scene out of a movie, where somebody gets into that dicey conversation like maybe they've hidden a body and someone says you know, whenever I find a hidden body and then they like fumble and spill their drink. You know what I mean. It's like in a TV show or a sitcom or something, where somebody says something and then they spill a drink to try to redirect.

Speaker 1:

It's a little extreme, but you're right, absolutely. Did you ever see a movie called Rope? No, it's a Hitchcock film where these two college kids basically killed their professor and then they put them in this credenza where they're serving a buffet and they're inviting all of his friends over because they want to try to get away with it.

Speaker 2:

And that kind of thing happens all throughout the movie, so it's interesting. Uh, number 12 is clean. While you're cooking, rachel ray uses a garbage bowl, and so we started doing that, where you get a big bowl and you sit there and, just as you're cooking, you just toss everything right into that bowl as you want really yes, and then you just take it over to the garbage, because a lot of times you'll be like yeah, so we got that from her.

Speaker 2:

Being polite increases your odds of getting what you want. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Speaker 1:

That's old school absolutely.

Speaker 2:

Number 14, to learn something, repeat it to yourself three times on the day. You learn it two times the next day and once the day after that, and then you will know it.

Speaker 1:

Is that true? I've never heard that before.

Speaker 2:

I've never tried it, so I have no idea.

Speaker 1:

I don't think I've learned anything new in a long, long time.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think you could use that just to remember things, because sometimes I'll say, oh, I've got to remember to do that, but I never think to say it to myself, Like writing it down doesn't help, because just yesterday there was something I, I wrote it and then I didn't know what I meant.

Speaker 1:

I had something on my to-do list that me and my assistant, we spent like three days trying to figure out what it meant. It was just three initials and I couldn't remember what they were for and I don't know what didn't get done. But it never got done because we could not figure it out.

Speaker 2:

You need to write everything down. What were the initials? Do you remember?

Speaker 1:

the initials no, it was like. This was like a couple of weeks ago and we were just like what does this mean? Never this is weird. Never commit a crime during the commission of another crime. Wait what?

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So if you're transporting illicit substances, don't speed. That's what happens when you ask on Reddit for people to share their cheat codes.

Speaker 1:

I mean, that's a no brainer, I think. Just don't commit the crime If you can't do the time.

Speaker 2:

Let's get into this week's Battle of the Sexes.
