Speaker 2:

Ah, oh there he is Welcome to buildings Montana. Oh yeah, he's. This is the Irish. You guys are super sneaky mix.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we do.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Billings jeopardy, donnie. I don't know if you're aware of this. You're our first contestant Today, so this is an honor of last night's jeopardy episode, where Billings Montana was the answer for final jeopardy. Did you know that Donnie hit folks? I? Did not know that, oh, and I brought this to your attention earlier today correct?

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes, I was unaware as well. Yeah, so here we are. I would like to point out, billings is known for S words Park. This is featured on celebrity jeopardy. I'm oh. Oh yes, we're also known for eating potatoes and drinking whiskey. That's true, you are. I did a day to say the day.

Speaker 2:

Okay, Donnie, are you ready for your your first question? Yep, okay. What restaurant is home to the flying burger? You know this.

Speaker 1:

I don't stand these but no good.

Speaker 2:

Yet again, though, the correct answer would be the king's hat. What is the king's hat?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I don't, I don't eat there. Oh, and he's better.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we might have some rivalry. We'll see what somebody else answer. I don't know. One of the most iconic hamburger joints in Billings is Kings hat, opened originally is a big boy back in 1949. This will fetch you anyway, so here's another one for you. Donnie, I know it's okay. Sometimes things start rocky right like the movie. Now just imagine the stairs and you know victory. Right, yeah, here we are. If you get at least one of these right, you win a shirt. All right, here we are. We never right? Yeah, we didn't set the parameters for this. I just thought of that. You cool with that on? Yeah, yeah, okay, cool, all right, what is? Yes, all right. So here we are. What is the nickname for Billings Montana?

Speaker 1:

Shit, don't know that either. What the fuck? I know it's a big mistake. You know what is the magic city? Yes, you guys are calling a country boy that stays outside all the fucking time, that doesn't pay attention to any of that stuff. And that's when these questions.

Speaker 2:

It's okay. It's okay. Whiskey drinking, donnie, today, what, what you're? Oh, and your friend Hoover showed you that one.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he told me that it was the magic city and I thought he was just joking. And then, as I pulled into town, I'm like one of the first I times, like once I knew I was moving here at some radio station like the magic city and I was like, oh shit, I thought it was just making a joke. But no, it is indeed nothing about Billings.

Speaker 2:

Nothing magical about Billings all right no we'll get it there. We'll get it there. All right, donnie, damn dude, you got to get one of these. Right, my friend, we'll get this okay this, this one, this one's for you.

Speaker 2:

I, this one specifically for you. I feel what smell is Billings, montana, known for sugar beet factory in 1883? The town of Billings yeah, it's terrible. The town of Billings established an irrigation system and created the ability to eliminate crop rotation in the fields and the sugar beet industry was created. So Billings is like home of the fucking sugar beet guys oh yeah, the trucks are coming in there.

Speaker 1:

Freaking honor, real for like six months yeah, rats the huge, like New York, I'm assuming yeah, it's pretty awesome, like someone threw up Indian food and a used diaper and put it on a wet dog. Yeah, that's pretty close. That's bad. I can smell it all the way over here in the high.

Speaker 2:

I'm like so yeah, I mean that just smells like summer to me. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

Speaker 1:

Yeah so I couldn't get the other two questions right, but that one was easy.

Speaker 2:

That's weird, yeah hey, you know what man that's just what Billings is known for is the sugar beet factory and the five refineries in town. Oh, yeah, yeah, refineries, that lung problems, billings Montana also, the many casinos and yeah, anyway. So nonetheless, hey, yeah, yes. And last, last question, last question, donnie, I said this is the bonus round, real quick, okay, all right. What's what? I don't know if you teachers teachers, okay, okay, who you know what? Fair enough, fair next question okay, what? What sport originated in Billings Montana? What sport yeah, gotta be hockey.

Speaker 1:

No answer Owen math cycling, believe, invented by method. He's spooky to sit in the late 80s after eight-day bender, has methamphetamines and stealing bicycles. That relay was started and each method passes off a stolen bicycle to the next until they reach from the heights to the last end. Yeah, I could totally believe that. I'm judging what I've seen here in the last couple years. I totally believe that sounds like something from you though.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, maybe that's it expands in the summertime to go from Billings to be yeah, that's a whole different deal that shows up. Yeah, or maybe great falls, oh god we haven't mediocre fall.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they haven't quite started the Federation yet, guys. I mean, these small Billings is the originator of math cycling, I feel. But these other towns, like dude and great falls, they have their own individual chapters that don't quite have the same rules. It's sort of like how soccer originated in England and nobody knew how to play it until they had their you know, their uniform rules. Very similar guys, yeah, so Montana yeah, so I'm fucking, I'm fucking moving yeah.

Speaker 1:

I already did yeah, you did you. Yeah, you know I'm out of here, I'm going to round up. Yeah, that's very fine yeah, hey, donnie, you tried the barbecue and round up the back court yeah, I haven't yet, but I've heard such good things about.

Speaker 1:

I heard their food is like phenomenal. Yeah, I made. The pilgrim is out there just to go get a pit beef sandwich. It's like a Baltimore style roast beef sandwich and everything. Pulled pork on point. I'm gonna go through the whole menu. Yeah, we should get out there sometime. Oh, we should for sure. Like that sounds good to me, you, you also have to go out towards, like Levina, like that area, the 406 out there, oh, okay.

Speaker 2:

It's so good.

Speaker 1:

It's the best sirloin steak I've ever tasted in my life. I don't like sirloins, though.

Speaker 2:

Well dang man. That was nice. I like how that worked out with the roundup thing. You were just recently talking about that on the recap episode, I believe Owen Wynchon.

Speaker 1:

I think so yeah, yeah, great, one place Good plug.

Speaker 2:

We should definitely tag them in it. Maybe you can go and do a review and if they hook you up with some dishes Also. Dude, thanks for playing First contestant. You did win a shirt, bro, and you know it was worth it, so I appreciate your time.

Speaker 1:

Well, one out of four, that's not bad for a meth bicycle.

Speaker 2:

A meth bicycle town. Yeah, what kind of schools do they have there, I wonder? I don't know. Anyway, gosh.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, Billings.

Speaker 2:

Montana for supplying us with so much ammo. Ladies and gentlemen, it's Billings, chepardine, oh wow, dude Good job bro we're going to use that shit for every one of them. Good job All right. All right, that was nice. Here's our friend of the show Jason Bistro is I like to call him because he likes the culinary arts as well as our friend Owen Michael. All right guys, so you're darn right, I do. That's right. That's right, my friend. All right, so let's begin. What was the original name of Billings?

Speaker 1:

What was Billings no?

Speaker 2:

Oh, look at all those buildings.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Does that count? Well played, sir. I think we're going to chuck. We're going to give you a point on that one, just because I'm going to let you know the real answer, my friend. Thank you, the real answer is Coulson, yeah Coulson. Montana was originally Coulson, yeah, coulson. So when Coulson?

Speaker 1:

was founded.

Speaker 2:

It was a stage coach trading post and it was settled in 1877. But in 1882, when the area was surveyed by the Northern Pacific Railway Company, the city was renamed for a president of the railroad, frederick Billings. And I couldn't find, actually, if this guy ever visited Billings, to be honest. So just saying Good job, so, oh, and that counts, right, that was good.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yeah, yeah, he worked. Yeah, all right, so great great answer, man.

Speaker 2:

So here's our next question what restaurant is home? What restaurant is home to the flying burger? Flying burger.

Speaker 1:

Oh man, what is the burger guys? Oh, actually the answer would be oh no, what is Kings Hat yeah?

Speaker 2:

Okay, All right, we're going to give you.5. Jason's got 1.5. You've earned half a shirt. One of the most iconic hamburger joints in Billings is Kings Hat. My friend Jason opened originally as a big boy back in 1949. The Gazette reported 49. Yeah, dude, I didn't know that either, and I love Kings Hat, yeah, southside Montana.

Speaker 1:

Billings Montana.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's a staple down there. Also, the Gazette reported that the restaurant became the Southside Drive-In sometime in the 60s. In 1977, it became King's Hat and has remained virtually unchanged for nearly 50 years. My friend, why?

Speaker 3:

Fuck yes.

Speaker 2:

Hey, how's it going, hey, how's it going up there.

Speaker 3:

Fine.

Speaker 2:

Is your show going well?

Speaker 1:

Ahoy hoi, oh, welcome to Billings Jeopardy.

Speaker 2:

Cool Ramirez at the Southside of Billings, Montana, Surprise surprise. Hey, how's upstairs treating you?

Speaker 3:

Oh my gosh, that's cool, okay, ready.

Speaker 2:

Let's just start. Okay, what restaurant is home to the Flying Burger?

Speaker 3:

Um, my guess would be King's Hat Ding ding ding.

Speaker 2:

You win a shirt or a kiss, your choice. Hey, hey, hey. By the way, guys out there in podcast land, nicole actually is the reason that I found out that last night on Jeopardy, billings Montana was the final answer. So shot out the good detective work and journalistic integrity that Nicole has for the show. Okay, what is the nickname for Billings Montana?

Speaker 1:

Is it the?

Speaker 3:

magic city Ding, ding, ding Yay.

Speaker 1:

Whoa.

Speaker 3:

Okay, I was getting great falls mixed up for a second.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, isn't that the electric city?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's why you get them mixed up sometimes. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Dang, so you're like killing it here. The only one that did pretty good so far, don he was. You know he was entertaining, alright, but like Jason, had a bonus answer on accidents, so he did pretty good. But you're doing the best so far. Now here's the big one. What smell is Billings Montana known for?

Speaker 3:

Um the sugar factory.

Speaker 2:

So sugar beets, yes, yes, ding, ding, ding.

Speaker 3:

Sugar beets factory. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, she got them all right. Nicole grew up next to the sugar beet factory and has a in-depth knowledge of its inner workings and such things, and did not know that that sugar beet factory was actually built in 1883, the original site. It's pretty crazy, oh, wow, yeah, so you live on like a historic in a historic area of Billings, like right where it all started. Nonetheless, thank you for playing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I had note, there are very few plans to create an uddi pilfum, the sugar beet factory no not, no, there's not Well.

Speaker 3:

Did you know the sugar beet factory or the sugar beets actually taste really good though.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, you told me that she's eating it I figured they were doing it for some reason.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, it was unclear.

Speaker 3:

No, like if you just eat an actual sugar beet, like if you chop it up and eat it, it's actually really good.

Speaker 2:

Like raw.

Speaker 3:

Like a potato. Yeah, oh, my God.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God. Oh so, like Owen, did you have you ever eat a potato raw? That's a real question.

Speaker 1:

I don't think so, and all my mictum. I have had potatoes many ways, but not raw, not raw.

Speaker 2:

Oh baby, I like it raw yeah.

Speaker 3:

Well, now you have to try a sugar beet.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you do, okay I will, and anything for the show and report back.

Speaker 2:

Hey, you know what? This sparked something because actually, within the research I was doing, do the Billings Jeopardy? The sugar beet factory has some pretty interesting history. We may have to do a whole episode, okay. So all right, guys.

Speaker 3:

Well, I've been throughout the sugar beet factory.

Speaker 2:

Inner workings. We know what's going on. I've delivered parts there. I think everybody that's from Billings Montana. Like you know, owen's a transplant, but he still understands the sugar beet factory is Billings guys. I mean, there's no getting around it.

Speaker 2:

You know, anyway, and that was our Billings Jeopardy episode here that was inspired by my lady, nicole Ramirez, so thank you very much for your participation. On the fly, as they would say Now, something like you know King's Hat and Flying Burger. All right, guys.
