Speaker 2:

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Abound Ambitions podcast. It's been a while since we last talked. I took some time off to recharge, rest and overcome some emotional challenges, and today's episode, I believe, is perfect for a comeback. I think many of us can relate to feeling totally drained and emotionally empty. We've all been there right Between work, family and trying to squeeze in some personal time, it's easy to overlook our wellness. So in this episode, we're going to talk about how to avoid that feeling of depletion and emotional emptiness. We will look at real-life examples, talk about the impact it has on our lives and, of course, share some practical tips to help you stay energized and emotionally fulfilled.

Speaker 2:

I would like to start this episode by talking about what it actually looks like when we are running on empty. So picture this you are constantly tired, maybe you've got a headache that just won't quit, and your immune system is down, so you're catching every cold that comes your way. Does it sound familiar? Emotionally, you might find yourself snapping at the smallest things or feeling anxious and overwhelmed Mentally. You can't focus on anything and your productivity takes a nosedive. These are all signs that your body and mind are screaming for a break. Now let's talk about how this impacts our relationships. When we are emotionally drained, our personal relationships take a big hit, and let me give you an example.

Speaker 2:

I want you to think about Sarah, and a side note here Sarah is a fictional name for privacy reasons. So Sarah is a busy professional and a mom. So Sarah is a busy professional and a mom. She used to come home exhausted, too tired to play with her kids or connect with her partner. She would snap over little things, which eventually led to more arguments and less quality time with her family. But the problem wasn't just at home. At work, sarah found herself less motivated and creative. She would call in sick more often, not because she was physically ill, but because she couldn't face another day. Her performance slipped and so did her relationships with her colleagues. So what can we do to avoid getting to this point? And the example that I gave with Sarah? The name is fictional, the example is real. How many of us have we been there? Have we snapped at our kids because we were tired, because we're overwhelmed, because we couldn't stand the noise?

Speaker 2:

Let's try to avoid to get to this point, and I want to share with you some practical strategies that have worked wonders for me when I found myself unable to keep my eyes open after 8 pm, and for people like Sarah, and I call this strategy the PEM framework and I'm going to give it to you. So P stands for physical self-care. Regular exercise Just 30 minutes of walking, cycling or yoga most days can make a huge difference. It boosts your energy and lifts your mood. Balanced diet Focus on eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. And caution here I am not a doctor, I am not a nutritionist, but this is what I found works for me. A doctor, I'm not a nutritionist, but this is what I found works for me. No-transcript an expert. Personally speaking, when I started having a more balanced diet, I felt so much better.

Speaker 2:

And then under physical self-care comes adequate sleep. Aim for seven eight hours of sleep each night and make this non-negotiable, because your body and mind needs to recover, and seven to eight hours is enough time for that recovery. So which out of these three are you lacking? And let's be honest here what would you pick if you had to commit to doing one thing out of the three? You don't have to do all three at once, and the reason I'm saying this is because it might overwhelm you. Instead, let me give you another strategy that I use with my clients, and this strategy is part of the Goddess Diary process. Commit to one thing for 30 days. So out of the three exercise, diet and sleep pick one and commit to doing it, practicing it for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days, add another one for the next 30 days and the last one after the 60 days. So every 30 days, you add one extra thing. In 90 days, you will do all the three without feeling overwhelmed, and it will become your new habit, without pushing yourself, without resisting it, without avoiding it. Try it and please let me know, send me a message. I would love to know if it works for you. It certainly works for me and it worked for my clients.

Speaker 2:

Now let's move to E. E is for emotional self-care. Under emotional self-care, we have mindfulness and meditation. Even a few minutes a day can help you manage stress and find emotional balance. Currently, I am doing 10 minutes breath work and around 10 to 15 minutes meditation every morning. I also do, and I will encourage you to do, journaling.

Speaker 2:

Journaling comes down emotional self-care, because this is what's happened when we write down our thoughts and feelings. It's a great way to express ourselves and gain clarity, and I've mentioned that I've been feeling emotionally drained and I had some emotional challenges over the past two months, so I've started doing this every day. It helped me gain awareness of the real reason. I felt sad and cried without any particular reason. To be honest, there was a reason, obviously, but it was hidden beneath lots and lots of negative thoughts. So journaling helped me understand and start processing the pain I was feeling, and journaling is a very simple technique, yet a very powerful one. So if you want to figure out the real reason of you feeling overwhelmed, drained, having your emotional baguette as I like to call it empty, start journaling and, lastly, therapy and coaching. Sometimes we all need a little extra help. Sometimes we might not be able to figure out what is going on, so talking to a professional can provide valuable support and coping strategies.

Speaker 2:

Again, I'm going to ask you this what one thing you're going to commit to doing out of these three Things that I just described here? Don't be an information junkie, a person who consumes constant information but never takes action. Pick one and don't stop doing it until it becomes a daily habit. And don't tell me I don't have time. Make time. Tell me I don't have time. Make time.

Speaker 2:

We are talking about your health here, your overall well-being, okay, so let's move to M. M stands for mental self-care. Set boundaries, learn to say no and don't overcommit. Protect your time and energy. Engage in hobbies, do things that bring you joy and stimulate your mind, whether it's reading, painting or playing an instrument, and also continuous learning. Keep your mind active with new challenges and new learning opportunities.

Speaker 2:

And if you believe it is difficult to say no or set boundaries, I want to ask you this what makes you think that others are more important than you and your overall well-being? Think about it, because if you believe that others are more important than you, then congratulations. You've just nailed the real problem of feeling depleted, and this is the one that you should start working on. I want you to remember that you are not alone in this. Investing in self-care benefits you, but also improves your relationships at home and work. When we care for ourselves, we care for our loved ones as well. We encourage a culture of self-respect and mutual support.

Speaker 2:

All right, so, to wrap things up, the PEM framework PEM for short of personal wellness. It stands for physical, emotional and mental, and it's essential for avoiding that dreaded feeling of depletion. Integrating these practices that I've just described to you into your daily life will start helping you feeling more energized and emotionally fulfilled.
