Welcome to the Mom on a Mission podcast, your go-to resource for living a more purposeful and fulfilling life. So grab your Tazza cafe y vamos a platicar. Hola, hola, hola. Welcome to another episode of Mommy on a Mission podcast. I'm your host, mariana. First of all, amiga, I just want to start off by saying that I am so glad to be back talking with you again. I just, I just needed to take a break, you know. I mean, summer started. The kids were going to be home they're still home, eating me out of house and home but I got to, you know, watch some movies and shows and read some books and just kind of like taking a break, like seriously just taking a break and not having to worry about anything other than get up and go to work. But of course, nothing can ever be smooth sailing in the Monterubio household. So I think about every week in the month of June, one of us was sick. I think it started off with my son who had bronchitis, and then, I think, my husband who had laryngitis that became a sinus infection, and then I had strep throat that became a cold, and I think now my daughter is sick. So it's just like we've been passing the bug on to each other, and then it's been like that too, over at my full-time job. So I'm just like, oh my God, I'm assuming that you too, amiga, you're probably listening to me and you're like that sounds just like me, right? Well, listen, I've also been working with a marketing strategist, so something that I didn't think I needed, but I absolutely did need a marketing strategist. So something that I didn't think I needed, but I absolutely did need a marketing strategist and you know we've been working on some things with the business, learning how to advertise a little bit better. I'm just really doing some changes with the business and also with how I promote the podcast and the book and all of the good things right. So it's been a moment of just changing some things up, because we can't stay same place. If not, we'll never, ever, ever grow.

Speaker 1:

Which brings me to the topic of today. This is something that's we've heard it all before. So if you're Mexicana or Hispana, latina, whatever you want to call yourself, I'm pretty sure you've heard that dicho. Well, it's not a dicho, it's a saying, right? It's like ponte las pilas Andale, ponte las pilas Vamanos, right? So today's episode is just that Ponte las pilas and make it happen.

Speaker 1:

Embrace the power within. You are probably a multifaceted woman, just like I am. You're out there juggling a career, family, friendships, personal goals and everything in between, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed and lose sight of your true passion and purpose, and I think that's been like the thing that I've been noticing a lot is like women, when you get to a certain stage in your life, you're just like am I still passionate about what I do? Is there a purpose in my life? Or maybe you're just like. You know I've got a good job, you know everything is great, but I feel like I'm missing something right? I think many of us start to feel like that, but today we're going to reignite that inner fire and help you overcome the fear of external expectations so you can create the space and time you need for increased job satisfaction, if that's what you're seeking, or perhaps it's personal growth or just I don't know starting something new. But before we get started, I'd like to share. This episode is sponsored by Mommy on a Mission LLC. Mommy on a Mission is dedicated to empowering Latina women, and all women, to reach their impossible goals, one dream at a time. We provide a safe and inspiring environment where women can set big goals and work hard to achieve them Through a community of role models, workshops and inspiring conversations. Mommy on a Mission LLC offers the skills, networks and emotional support needed to turn possible dreams into reality. So let's talk about Ponte Las Filas.

Speaker 1:

This phrase is a call to action, a wake up call, if you will. In English it doesn't translate as well as Spanish, but it literally means put on your batteries. Right, we need to put on our batteries, recharge and then go for it, right? So it's about harnessing your energy and determination to make things happen I just had a brain fart y'all and determination to make things happen.

Speaker 1:

We often let external expectations define us, whether that be what other people think, whether that be that maybe something is getting in the way, but there's always something on the outside that seems to take us away from what it is that we want to do. We worry about what others think, whether we're good enough or if we're living up to societal standards. But here's the thing, amiga your power comes from within. It's about aligning with your own values and desires, not someone else's. When you embrace this mindset, you start to see opportunities instead of obstacles, and you unlock a realm of possibilities that were always there, just waiting for you to tap into them.

Speaker 1:

Building on the concept of Fuente Las Pilas and harnessing inner energy and determination, it's essential to understand how this mindset can empower you to take charge of your life and to achieve your goals. So, are you ready? Grab your pen and paper and start taking some notes, because we're going to start talking about a few things that I want you to think about for the next week. Okay, so while we're, you know, diving into the second half of the year, maybe you had some goals, maybe you had some things that you wanted to do, maybe there were some things that you wanted to accomplish. And here we are half of the year is gone and you're probably like I didn't even get to do any of the things that I said that I wanted to do. Well, here's your opportunity, because we still have the second half. It's not the end of the year yet, so there's still time, right?

Speaker 1:

But one of the things that I want to start off with is self-empowerment. So it's about embracing the idea of Ponte Las Pilas. It is all about realizing that your power and potential come from within yourself. By focusing on your own values and desires rather than external expectations, you can cultivate a sense of self-empowerment that drives you to take action and make things happen. Now you're probably saying, well, mariana, that's hard, because I don't even know what it is that I want to do, and that's okay. I mean, yeah, that's all right. That's why I'm saying you have to take a moment and start writing things down like jot, the things that you feel that is valuable to you. What is something that you desire? Right? Or maybe you desire something in the past and it just never happens. So I want you to think about those things right and start seeking you know within yourself.

Speaker 1:

I don't like to say motivation all the time, because motivation sometimes can be very limited. We can be motivated right away. We see something on TV, we see a commercial, we see someone who is out there, I don't know, working out, exercising or whatever, and then we get all motivated. We talk to somebody and we're like, yeah, yeah, I'm ready, I'm ready to go, and then, once you get started, after a while you fall off again Right, and so sometimes we have to look back and think about what was that inspiration that wanted us to go out and do the thing that we wanted to do right? So I want you to start thinking about what are some ways that you can become self-empowered.

Speaker 1:

The second thing that I want you to concentrate on or think about is the mindset shift shifting your mindset to one that is centered on self-belief and positivity and that can help you see opportunities where you once saw obstacles. So, instead of being held back by self-doubt or concerns about meeting societal standards, adopting a Ponte Las Pilas mentality allows you to approach challenges with a can-do attitude and a willingness to overcome setbacks. So In my job for a while I did not want to take on leadership roles. I just didn't. And it was a great opportunities for me to do it on several occasion. But I had that mindset that I just wasn't going to be good enough. Or I started to think about those limiting beliefs, that mentality of no, you can't do it, you're not good enough to do it, and then we start to fall into that self-sabotage mentality.

Speaker 1:

Well, we need to stop that, amiga. We need to stop allowing for the negativity to continue to manifest itself in us. We have to start creating things that are positive, that we know that we can do. We need to rely on our strengths not focusing on our weaknesses, but relying on our strengths. We need to work on those weaknesses, absolutely, but we need to focus on our strengths, at least to get us started.

Speaker 1:

And those areas that we need to work on. Then we need to find ways to either put ourselves out there so that we aren't well, we're going to be uncomfortable regardless but we got to put ourselves in those uncomfortable situations, right, because that's where the challenge begins. We need to just go for it. You know again ponte las pilas. You know echale ganas. That's the mentality we need to have. Instead of fearing things, we need to face that fear forward and just go for it. Right, because that's going to then unleash possibilities. So, when you tap into your inner energy and determination, you will unlock a world of possibilities that may have been overlooked. Right. By embracing your unique strengths so we just talked about that right? So we need to embrace your strengths and leverage your personal drive you can open doors to new experiences, growth, opportunities and fulfillment in various aspects of your life.

Speaker 1:

So how do we do that? Well, let's just say, for instance, you have been wanting to get a promotion, or perhaps you've been wanting to get a raise, or maybe you've been wanting to get a promotion, or perhaps you've been wanting to get a raise, or maybe you've been wanting to go on a speaking engagement I don't know. Whatever it is that you've wanted to do and you never did because you felt like you weren't good enough to do it or you couldn't do it. You weren't good enough to do it or you couldn't do it. I need you to think about some things in your life that you thought you couldn't do before, and what did it take for you to get it? Did it take somebody grabbing you by the hand and putting you in front of that situation? Did you learn something new, like, did you take a course or something? Because these are all things that are going to help you especially.

Speaker 1:

For instance, let's just say that you want a raise. Okay, so let's talk about that. How are you going to get that raise? Well, you've got to be able to talk about your strength. You can't be talking about your weaknesses. You've got to talk about your strengths. You've got to talk about things that you were able to bring to the table. What makes you qualified to receive that raise? Or maybe it's wanting to go into a different position.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you're probably scared to go for it, but what if it's just the right opportunity for you to grow? See, a lot of times we are not. It's not that we're bored, it's not that we're stagnant, it's just that we find ourselves in that safe place and when it comes time to make some changes, and when it comes time to make some changes, we almost freeze up. We almost freeze up. It's like we don't want to move forward. We want to just say we are, because we become afraid. Well, the thing is is that you'll never, ever grow unless you put yourself in that uncomfortable position, in that uncomfortable situation, because that's where the challenge is. I don't know about you all, but I know that for me, I like a good challenge. I do because it kind of like brings out a different quality about myself. Sometimes I can be very competitive in certain things, and so I always want to make sure that I'm doing a good job or that you know that I'm doing something different, because I want to challenge myself, I want to be different. If not, I'll get bored very easily, and that used to happen to me a lot. I would get so bored because I needed something that was going to challenge me in order for me to keep going.

Speaker 1:

Another thing taking ownership. Ultimately, ponte Las Pilas encourages individuals to take ownership of their lives and actively pursue their aspirations. By recognizing that you have the power to shape your own path and create the future you desire, you can step into your personal power and embark on a journey of self-discovery and achievement. A lot of times we won't do that. We will not take ownership of our lives. It's taking your authority, stepping out into your authority. If you don't allow yourself to step out into your authority, then you're going to allow for other people to dictate every move you make, whether it be on the job, whether it be in life, whether it even be parenting, if you are a parent, or about going to school. Whatever the situation is. If you don't take ownership of your life to actively pursue what aspires you, then you're going to allow for others to do that. So we need to make sure that we think about what it is that we would love to do, and then what are we going to do in order to make that happen?

Speaker 1:

Ok, now, how do we ignite this power within? First, it's essential to reconnect with your passion and purpose. Take some time to reflect on what truly makes you happy and fulfilled. Take some time to reflect on what truly makes you happy and fulfilled. What activities make you lose track of time? What causes do you feel passionate about? And then I want you to identify the external expectations that are holding you back and challenge them. Ask yourself are these expectations serving me or hindering me? And once you've done that, it's time to create space in your life for what truly matters. This means setting boundaries, learning to say no or prioritizing activities that align with your goals and values. Remember, it's not about doing more. That's not what this is about. It's about doing what's meaningful.

Speaker 1:

So, to ignite the power within you, it's crucial to practice self-care and mindfulness. I can't begin to tell you, I can't begin to tell you how many times I've heard this, how many times I've said this, how many times other people have said this, but if so many people are saying this, then it's got to be something that we need to do, and and I mean us as mujeres we do not do this. We do not know how to truly practice self-care. We continuously have this mentality that you know well, if I take time for myself, but I'm going to neglect this or this isn't going to get done, honey, if you're burning yourself at the end of that stick, honey, if you're burning yourself at the end of that stick, you know the wick of the candle. You're not going to have any energy to pour into somebody else. You're not going to have enough energy to do the things that you need to do for other people. You're going to be mentally drained. You're going to be emotionally drained. Why? Because we're continuously running off of fumes, and if we don't take a break and if we don't take time to take care of ourselves, we're going to break down. So you need to engage in things that are going to promote mental and emotional well-being. Whatever that is for you maybe it's meditation, maybe it's yoga, maybe it's journaling, maybe it's painting, maybe it's just going out and just find some quiet time reading a book. Whatever it is that you need to do for yourself, do it. It's okay. If you want to go and get a massage, get your nails done, go eat and have dinner with yourself. Just find something. See, self-care is going to be different for everybody. It's not going to be, you know, a one for all.

Speaker 1:

I, sometimes, when I practice self-care like just the other day, like just the other day actually, so just the other day, um, I went to this um place it's called the Ivy drip bar, I believe it's what it's called anyways. So it's where, uh, you go, they, you know, run by nurses, it's for owned by nurses and they have those Ivy bags or the bags, and they have the fluids and then they pour different vitamins into these bags and then, so you just get an IV, you just sit there and then you have all these vitamins you know poured put into you. Oh my God, that was the most relaxing thing that I had ever done and I felt so good. I had an extra B12 shot put in me. I absolutely loved it. I'm going to go do it again, but it can be a little bit pricey. But if I can just get it a few more times, I know that I'm going to have all the vitamins that I need and it's going to help me Right.

Speaker 1:

So again, amiga, self-care, practice it, cultivate a positive mindset. So earlier we just talked about mindset, mind shift, right. But we could start with having a positive mindset if we just practice gratitude and affirmations daily. So I have these little cards of daily affirmations that was given to me and I've also been journaling down like things that I've been grateful for, and this can help shift your focus towards the good in your life and foster a sense of empowerment, because if all we're thinking about is a negative and not what's good in our lives, then we're not going to recognize those good things that are going for us.

Speaker 1:

So practice gratitude and affirmations, um, things that are going to help, you know, get you going. I know for myself, you know there's every day. I try to at least find three things that I'm grateful for, um. Some days it's my family, it's my home, it's um my dogs. Um other times it's my job, it's the ability to have a career that I really, really enjoy seeing, especially when a success story comes out of it. I'm just grateful for those opportunities and that's what gets me going, it's what fuels me for that moment. And so if you start every day when you wake up practicing something that you're grateful for, it changes the mindset for the day.

Speaker 1:

Surround yourself with supportive and like-minded individuals who encourage your growth and authenticity. Oftentimes, if we are hanging around nothing but negative people, or if we are surrounded ourselves around negativity all the time, we're going to start adopting that mentality. But if you're around people that are encourage you, that you know, make you laugh, that you can, you know I'm going to be honest with you, so I can be the most serious person if I need to be. But I am the type of person that the music is in my head. It is. You can throw a word at me and I'm going to make a song about it, whether it be a song that I already know or I'm just going to make up something a song that I already know or I'm just going to make up something and I've got coworkers that are just the same and we are able to do our job because we I work with women that are very similar to me in the sense that we make each other laugh.

Speaker 1:

We pray with each other. So that's another thing. It's not just all you know like oh, we make him laugh, you know? No, no, no, we pray with each other. When one of us is going through something, we get together and we pray for one another. If one of us is happy, we gather around each other, support each other, encourage each other, praise each other, whatever that is, but it's what makes that place better for us. See, sometimes we don't want to leave a job because of the work. Oftentimes we leave a job it's because of the people that are around. Who is around you? You know, if they're draining you, then maybe it is time to go. Same thing, if you've got people that have been in your life but they are very draining, then sometimes we just need to get away from them and find the people that are going to build us up. And it's so important to have a strong support system because they're going to provide you with the strength and motivation to pursue your passions You're going to.

Speaker 1:

When I started podcasting, I just did not know the doors that were going to open, the people that I was going to be able to meet, and I'm just like, oh my God, I've gotten to go to Arizona, I've written a book, got it published, I've got to meet my book publishing coach, I got to be the MC of the book publishing academy, of the book publishing academy. I've been able to, you know, have a book launch, all of these things. I mean because of the people that I started surrounding myself with, um, that I started to pursue other things. These are all new things, and so, because of that, now I'm mentoring, um, young kids to become writers. So that's exciting for me because that's something new, that's something different, that's something that I get to now pour back. Once upon a time, I was someone that was learning how to write a book. Now, here I am getting ready to mentor a young mind so that they can become a published author at a young age, and I'm just like, so excited about that, and so we need to find those things that are going to ignite our passion again right.

Speaker 1:

Set goals that align with your values and aspirations. Break down those goals into smaller ones, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed and stay motivated. Sometimes I come across people that they set these high goals and they just want to go for it and they want to see the end result before they even start it. That's okay, you can visualize the end result, but in order to get there, it's going to take little chunks at a time. It is because if we're going to do it all, we're going to become very overwhelmed. I say that because that's been me. Sometimes. There are things that I want to do and then I become overwhelmed because I'm trying to do all of it instead of breaking it all down and then work on one thing, then work on another thing. Um, there's, you know, there's people like there. They have all these ideas of what they want to do, what they think they can, you know, uh, build out whatever, and they haven't even started, because they have all these great ideas and then they overwhelm themselves and then they don't do anything. So if that's you, amiga, don't do that to yourself.

Speaker 1:

Set small goals and then celebrate. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Acknowledge your progress and the effort that you're putting into pursuing your passion and purpose. We all have these goals that you know, we write down that we are going to do, and then sometimes we just forget to celebrate the small things, the things that are starting to move the needle into the direction that you want it to go in. Celebrate them.

Speaker 1:

I remember there was someone that I knew that was I think she was trying to lose, maybe was trying to lose weight or something, I don't know and then you know she won. I guess it was 50 pounds that she wanted to lose and I think she had lost like five pounds and stuff. And instead of celebrating pounds and stuff, and instead of celebrating she was disappointed, I was like, girl, that's five pounds. Next it's going to be a five more pounds and then five more pounds after that. Yes, are you going to, you know, be in positions where it's going to stall for a little bit? Absolutely, but you've got to push past that, right, and then you're going to see that all of those little things that you've been working on, you're going to be able to accomplish those. Those things I it.

Speaker 1:

That reminds me of a story of, um, this one girl I remember she wanted to become a nurse and um, she, so we. We talked about some things, and so she started taking some classes as a CNA, so certified nursing assistant, and that was a certification. She was able to get that, so she was able to get her foot in the door and work at a clinic or a practice, and so she was learning a lot of the things there. Well, then she decided to go back and take some courses to become an LVN I believe it was and she got that and the next thing, you know, she got all at all. It became to the point where she became an RN, and one of the things that we did was every step that she took into that direction when she became a CNA.

Speaker 1:

We celebrate it, because she was already going towards that, she was already gaining the experience. So by the time she became a nurse, guess what? She had the experience, and that was something to celebrate. All of the things, all of her hard work, all of those little milestones that she was able to set and accomplish. We celebrate it. And that, right there, amiga, that's like oh my God, you see something, celebrate it. Celebrate no matter what that is. And, lastly, remember that self-discovery and personal growth are ongoing processes. Be patient with yourself and allow room for exploration and evolution as you continue to ignite the power within you.

Speaker 1:

This is not a sprint, it is a marathon. If you have not picked up my book mommy on a mission, you need to, because in in that book it's going to talk about what does it take to become a mommy on a mission? And we talk about all these things that I'm just now bringing up to you again. All of these little points that I've been pouring out to you, these little golden nuggets, those are in my book. So if you haven't picked up a copy, I recommend that you pick it up, because it's going to help you start to think about. It's got questions in the back of each chapter that's going to prompt some questions to get you to start thinking about what your next move is going to be. And it's just the beginning. It's just the beginning.

Speaker 1:

So as we wrap up today's episode, I want to leave you with this thought you have the power to shape your own destiny. It's time to ponte las pilas and make it happen. Embrace your passions, challenge the expectations that don't serve you and create the time and space you need for personal and professional growth. You've got this and I'm here cheering you on every step of the way, and I'd also like to share a scripture that I think is fitting for this message. It's my favorite scripture Philippians 4.13. It says I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Let this scripture remind you that you have an inner strength and resilience that can help you overcome any obstacle in your path.
