Designing Dreams: Claudia Middendorf's Journey of Passion and Reinvention at Any Age
May 23, 2024 Season 3 Episode 19
Kamrin Huban

I’m thrilled to introduce Claudia Middendorf, my friend and the visionary behind Mathilde, a textile and home decor company. With 25 years in the design industry, Claudia’s big break came when her work was featured in Martha Stewart Living, Remodelista, and Quilt Folk.

Claudia's journey is inspiring. Trained in graphic design, she found her true passion in textiles, influenced by her grandmother’s Afghans and great-grandmother’s handmade aprons. Weekends turned into creative explorations, leading her to shift from graphic design to textiles, where she felt a deeper connection.

At 40, Claudia earned her MFA from RISD, driven by a lifelong love of learning, inspired by her parents’ dedication to education and creativity. She credits her father, a late college graduate and firefighter, and her mother, an art lover from Latin America, for instilling this passion.

Claudia advises her younger self to dive into her passions wholeheartedly, whether as a career or a hobby. She believes in the transformative power of design, not just for spaces, but for personal well-being and harmony.
