Oct 11, 2022 Season 1 Episode 1

Welcome to The Eco Mama Podcast.

It is an honor to be here with you today, and I am excited to share how my journey began and dig right into the nitty gritty of why the ingredients of our everyday products matter.

We use chemicals every day. Some are benign, such as salt and water. Others, however, are toxic and have adverse effects on our health.

Some signs that your body has a toxin buildup include:

Brain fog
Hair loss
Fatigue
Brittle toenails
Bad breath
Nausea
Weight gain

Overexposure to toxins can lead to failure of normal body functions resulting in an increased risk of diseases like:

Cancer
Chemical pneumonia
Parkinson's disease
Cardiovascular disease

There are approximately 350,000 chemicals in use today, 80,000 of which are synthetic (or artificially created) registered today. Many of these haven't been studied for safety by any government agency.

How many are banned in the USA vs. Europe?
11 US
Over 1300 in the EU

Why do I care?
I want to live a long healthy life without compromising my health with ingredients known to harm us. I choose to avoid them where I can and to teach my children to do the same.

Why should you care?
The younger we are when exposed, the longer our bodies are subjected to the harmful side effects of these toxic ingredients. Helping to maintain a home free from toxic chemicals increases your odds for a healthier future, but it's an irreversible gift we can give our children.

What is Greenwashing?
A company or organization spends more time and money discussing its sustainable practices than minimizing its environmental impact. Environmentalist Jay Westerveld initially coined this term in 1986.

What is Whitewashing?
To gloss over.

What is Bluewashing?
Bluewashing (similar to "whitewashing" and "greenwashing") refers to companies that use deceptive measures to appear socially and ethically responsible.

What is Greenhushing?
Understating or under-reporting the environmental impact of business practices.
