Episode 94: Dennis Rader "BTK" // Part 2

In part 2 we look at Kathryn Bright and Shirley Vian, who were both victims of Dennis Rader, known as the BTK Killer.

• Kathryn Bright: In April 1974, 21-year-old Kathryn Bright was attacked in her Wichita home. Rader attempted to strangle her, but she fought back. He then stabbed her and fled the scene. Kathryn's brother, Kevin, was also present and was shot but survived. This was the second BTK murder, following the Otero family killings in January 1974.
• Shirley Vian: Three years later, in March 1977, Rader attacked 25-year-old Shirley Vian in her Wichita home. He forced his way in, possibly following her young son. Shirley's children were home at the time but were locked in a bathroom by Rader. He then tied Shirley up and strangled her.

These two murders, along with the Oteros, established a pattern for Rader's crimes, which continued for decades.
