Ever found yourself chuckling over cycling gear debates or daydreaming about the open road with fellow biking enthusiasts? Adam and I, Michael, are back at it, tossing opinions back and forth about the latest in cycling fashion (hello, DeBrim controversy) and gearing up for the BRAG 2024 with our freshly minted team jerseys. Tune in for a hearty mix of laughter and earnest preparation tales, as I reveal my packing quirks and a few cycling treasures that'll accompany me on this grand adventure.

Now, let's wheel into the heart of cycling community spirit and the importance of keeping our rides in prime condition. Sharing stories from my recent visit to Eric's Bike Shop, we underscore the value of supporting local shops and ensuring our bikes are road-ready, new chains included. Training hasn't been without its ups and downs, but rest assured, I'm keeping the humor in my stride as I confess the less-than-smooth progress in my regimen.

Completing our journey, we talk about our listener spotlight  Owensboro, Kentucky, before pedaling towards the anticipation of the Atlanta to  Savannah expedition. As we swap scuba diving stories and marvel at the practical magic of foldable helmets, we embrace the quirks of our diverse interests. Hang tight as we navigate a brief hiatus in our regular programming, but fear not—we're as committed as ever to return, post-June 9th, with more engaging yarns spun from our cycling and life escapades.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's time for Road Adventures with Cycling Men of Leisure, the podcast for cyclists who understand that riding is not just about getting to the destination, but the experience along the way. Now here are the original Cycling Men of Leisure Adam and Michael.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Road Adventures of Cycling Men of Leisure. I'm Adam, and across from me is a man who is afraid to wear a brim, a man from Kansas, but a man who is my co-host and good friend, Mr Michael Sharp.

Speaker 3:

Wow. Well, I'm still honored that you'll call me your friend, even though I don't wear a DeBrim. You're right, they do take your man card for wearing the DeBrim, and I wanted to hold onto that for a little while longer.

Speaker 2:

And they stamp it more improved and send it back to you and say thank you for your support.

Speaker 3:

So they gold-plate it for you, make it look fancy, and okay, that's right, that's right. You know, I am sporting my new vintage biking hat. I'm loving it.

Speaker 2:

It's not vintage but it's off of vintage, back in the days when Fiat had its own cycling team and I am sporting the brand new ladies and gentlemen, the official Northside Hospital and Bragg 2024, jersey Cycling Men of Leisure, the men's edition. The men's has this red stripe, the ladies is more cut for a woman and has a pink stripe. But I can confirm that five of them have arrived and the rest I'm told I'll get when we get to Georgia.

Speaker 3:

So Five people of the 27, whatever, 37, I guess, is what is it? I don't even know what it is, but anyway we'll have, we'll have a tire.

Speaker 2:

So listen, uh, our good friend ed, uh has one here in my house. Um, I have one. And uh, jeff w I don't want to give his last name because I don't think he wants his last name out there. And his wife have some, you have one. And sir, I have one.

Speaker 3:

Now my question is how did you get one? Well, I'm going to be honest you please do, because I haven't figured out this yet.

Speaker 2:

Now that you've announced it you have it Inside my order I will have a XXL and this one. Since I knew I was on the down slope when all of you guys wanted to put your extra order in, I went ahead and tacked on to your order and I got myself the XL instead of the XX. The slim, fit, that's right. So now new and improved here, see I love it.

Speaker 3:

I think that's awesome and job well done, my friend. Thank you, sir, Although you did kind of mock me when you were like what's your name on this needing an extra jersey order thing? You were kind of like questioning my sanity at that point.

Speaker 2:

I was because I wasn't sure what you were thinking, because we just turned in the order with Primal and then I'm like, dude, you know you get one. And then you're like, I know, relax, I want it.

Speaker 3:

My idea is on my new section over here, which is getting very close to being done. Maybe we'll have a reveal or something, but I am going to be putting a biking jersey, incorporating that into part of my redo of this area over here, and I so love that biking jersey that I thought it needed a special place and so I wanted to buy an extra one, because I knew if I took the one I was riding and put up there, uh, somebody next year would say, hey, let's wear those jerseys, and I'd have to go break it out of its display.

Speaker 2:

That's true. So on the back it has a map of georgia and then has brag 2024 and on the map, primal worked with us back and forth and so, uh, we took the ride with gps actual, you know, squiggly line map that went last year, uh, the route was closed but it really wasn't official, but this year it is a% official, so I could use that if I get lost.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you could just take the jersey off and then you could be like, or find one of our 30 team members and they'll have the same map on her. Which way is north? That's right, it's that way. So that's good, Awesome. I figured that's good. Awesome. I figured that was something. And then I have my Peaches to Beaches Brag keychain here available, and then I also have, still in the package, the 2023 Lakes and Libations keychain for Brag. I am excited. I mean I'm ready to go. Actually, I'm not, whoa whoa whoa.

Speaker 3:

Okay, thank you. I was about ready to throw a flag because I was like, wait a minute, You're ready to go.

Speaker 2:

Well, that's a little bit stretching, let me guess.

Speaker 3:

Mentally, you're ready to go.

Speaker 2:

Mentally I'm ready.

Speaker 3:

Packing-wise. From what you told me yesterday, it doesn't sound like you're quite there yet. No, your ways.

Speaker 2:

I mean, this is not our first rodeo. I mean I know what to do and I've got a few items coming in from Amazon just to make the way that I like to pack Each day. I like to pack Each day, I like to put my nutrition and sight savers so I can clean my glasses. All that stuff is coming in and so I will build the assembly line and then I've got all my Bragg t-shirts ready so I can be like everybody else and wear Bragg t-shirts. On Bragg, I'll be that guy. I'm going to get a new one, which I saw online which is pretty cool. Um, it has the uh city to see and it's blue and so it looks cool. I'm excited about that.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna be wearing cycling mental leisure attire the whole week. Well, just in case people don't know who I am.

Speaker 2:

Well, listen he'll have a de brim on by the end of the week.

Speaker 3:

Oh dear, Aren't we going to be going past the Georgia State Asylum or something?

Speaker 2:

I'm not sure, but we're going to be going across the Georgia State Nat Line.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, we need to talk about this, so.

Speaker 2:

I forgot about the Nat line lack of being in, and more in the south, or south of the nat line, if you will, um, and there was a couple times we would stop and get our italian ice and and uh, I saw and get attacked. I did see on facebook that it's official, they're coming back our italian ice and she's a listener, so that's awesome.

Speaker 3:

Yes, um, I made a comment on her post the other day. Awesome. I said something. Like you know, cycling men of leisure are excited, ready for for our tie and ice, something of that nature, oh I can't wait.

Speaker 2:

I have to go with a smaller size this year, but that's okay, I'm still going to have it. So we would. I just remember at one church there was a fire station on one side and you and I sat in the vestibule area in front of the church. There I mean smack, I mean literally, they almost picked us up and carried us away. That was awful. And then last year we were north of the gnat line. No bugs Never thought about anything. And then this year our friend Tripp said that Swainsboro and Statesboro are south of the gnat line.

Speaker 3:

I was like oh, oh, man, I forgot about that, so, uh, thanks for keeping it real trip. Appreciate it well now I now I will remind myself to bring some insect propellant, because the gnats they're just those little things and they're everywhere and you stop for a second and they just kind of swarm you, yeah. But then last year when we got north of that kind of that line. They were just gone yeah, it's amazing.

Speaker 2:

Speaking of trip, I think, uh, it's time to talk about the elephant in the room.

Speaker 2:

So, um, trip was nice enough to well oh not the elephant in my room, just the elephant, okay if there's an elephant in my room, it's going to fall through. I'm on the second floor, but Trip sent me a message and he said listen, I'm not sure if anyone brought this to your attention, but there is a high-pitched sort of feedback noise, and so I, of course, being dedicated as you, I was panicking, and so I grabbed my AirPods and put them in my ears and started playing our shows, and he even actually gave me a time marker, right what to go to. Um, and sure enough I could. I could hear it just a little bit, but he says he listens to the in the car and it almost makes it unlistenable. So, uh, if anyone experienced that, I'm really hoping.

Speaker 2:

A we're sorry. B uh, we take a lot of pride in this show, so that's not what we want to put out there. But I'm really hoping we've taken some effort to alleviate that and we're hoping that you do not hear that this time. But I don't think Tripp's crazy, because I heard it myself.

Speaker 3:

Well now, I didn't call anybody crazy. All I said was is I listened to it yesterday and then you suggested I listened to it with headphones and I listened to it afterwards with headphones and what I heard was there was an occasional like resonant echo, like a low-grade resonant echo at places, but it came and it went and it was not. I mean, it was there sometimes and not there other times, so but I didn't hear any of what kind of he was describing. So the only thing I don't know I know I was listening to it on a different platform than what you listened to it, so I don't know if that has something to do with it. I don't know, but I didn't necessarily hear it. I'm not saying it didn't go there. Maybe I just have old ears, e-n-t what I'm just kidding Exactly, huh.

Speaker 2:

So hopefully regardless nobody has to listen to it. The other thing is and there are certain frequencies that I can't hear anyway, so it just happened to fall within the frequency that I could hear. But the other thing is is if you are watching this on youtube, you'll notice that I don't have on uh headphones. The microphone I use is one of the most popular microphones out there. The sure smb7 read an article that said that sometimes with over the ear headphones it's so sensitive and I had the decibels and the gain turned up a little bit and it's so sensitive that I can actually pick up my own headphones and maybe that's what it was doing. So, nevertheless, we're just very transparent in our podcasting and if that did happen to you, a, we're sorry and B, tri trip, uh, listen to this and write me back, buddy. So anybody.

Speaker 3:

If you hear it doing that, let us know, please. Yeah, we that's not we got to know these things, or else we can't fix it, so, uh, so I do want to say that, basically, your technology may have done you in, it's what you're saying I I definitely think that part of the technology, that all of the fancy toys I have over here may have been the culprit. Maybe you should just do it old school, my friend, old school.

Speaker 2:

Oh yes, with a record and a needle and scratch it in there and then send it into our platform.

Speaker 2:

I didn't mean like ancient the other pieces of it, which is, if you've never done something like this, um, there's a few buttons that we can click to like what they call normalize and remove noise reduction. Um, kind of not 100% sure. Um, the platform that we use has had some technical issues themselves. I'm not sure if it was our fault. So we're doing everything on our part that we think that is going to fix it. On our part, um, there's a few pieces of software that we use and and filter, cutouts and stuff, and so we're not 100 sure, but, listen, we're hoping. We're hoping this is a cleaner, better production. So, anyways, natline check, apology check. Oh, next on the list, did you get your bike?

Speaker 3:

As a matter of fact, about two hours ago, I got back from getting my bicycle. Yes, hey, all right. What did they say? What did it need? Well, it needed a new chain. It was getting pretty worn and I knew the chain was probably in need. We put on a new back cassette and he got it all cleaned up and tuned up and everything. So I think I'm ready to go.

Speaker 2:

Awesome.

Speaker 3:

And how is Eric? You know Eric is doing very well. Eric, you know Eric is doing very well. They're having a big snowboard sale now, which is interesting because it does me and nobody else in this area any good whatsoever. But they're having a snowboard sale, so if you're in the Kansas City area, stop by and do some snowboard shopping.

Speaker 2:

What is the actual? Is it Eric's Bike Shop?

Speaker 3:

Eric's Bike Shop and then they have Eric's Snowboard or Ski Shop or whatever. I mean it's like all one thing but they keep. They have it kind of separate, but it's all together. I mean they're a franchise or I don't know if it's a franchise, but they're all over the country Cool.

Speaker 2:

So did you actually get to meet Eric?

Speaker 3:

I've not met eric. I believe I met dave, who is the manager of the uh shop area. There we go cool he got me hooked up and uh also got me a secondary derailleur hanger Nice.

Speaker 2:

Wise idea.

Speaker 3:

Well, I had one, and I wasn't so sure because the last time I bought one the mechanic was kind of iffy and so I had him double-check and it would have worked if I would have needed it. According to the mechanic, however, it was not an exact fit, so I have one now. That's an exact fit.

Speaker 2:

And for our listeners I'm not trying to be funny with Michael and the bike shop. We like to support our bike shops that we go to and so I'm asking on purpose because I want to give credit. I mean, usually you're really pleased with where you take the bike, so I know it's not as personable as you would like, as like a hometown shop and support your local hometown.

Speaker 3:

But Just not one of those close around me. So yeah, you know. There is several other bike shops which I have tried, which, as anyone who's listened to the show knows that we don't really badmouth anybody, so I'm not going to mention their names, but I was not happy with some of their work. Hence the derailleur would work, but not an exact match, things like that. So you know, these guys are treating me right. Good, happy about that, all right. So happy about that All right.

Speaker 2:

You got the bike Now. Uh, I have a question.

Speaker 3:

How's the training going? Oh, you need a cricket, sounds there. Um, uh, training has been very, very difficult for me this year. Um, obviously, we briefly mentioned it. Uh, there's been some family uh crisis going on, um, which has been taking up a great deal of time, uh, time with my wife and things. So that's limited my time.

Speaker 3:

And then this weather I mean I'm not everywhere is just crazy. I mean today, you know, a F5 tornado touched down in a little town that we've been right by on rides and it sounds like it pretty much wiped it out. So good luck to those folks. I hope everything is going as good as can be expected up there.

Speaker 3:

But the weather, you know, I mean it's rained every other day around here, and then my wife works at night, as you know, so there's several nights a week I need to be responsible for the children and you know she leaves at like five, so I'm just getting off work, so those nights are out, and then every other day it's raining and then it's just so it's. You know it's been tough. Now I have been able to get a little bit onto Peloton Good, not the same, but and I find I can't put in as many miles or as long as time because I get bored. But you know what? I'm trying to get a little bit in Now that I have my bike last couple weeks here. I'll really go out here and hit some hills or something, but it's been a challenge.

Speaker 2:

I would I mean with the new cassette and chain and just kind of make sure everything is working before you pack it up and take it. So normally I would give you a hard time, but I I know that that's already been happening at your house, so we're gonna leave that alone. It's been challenging.

Speaker 3:

But I know you, you, my friend. Yes, I've been exercising like every day for the last, like 65 days or something yeah, I think it's like 120 days, last 120 days. I apologize, that's all right listen, but that also explains why you can trash the the jerseys and move into the smaller size.

Speaker 2:

So it's, it's uh, it's definitely uh. It's like when I opened up the extra large I haven't had an extra large on in a long time I was like and I kind of like put one arm through and I'm like okay, here we go. It's a little I'm not going to lie down here.

Speaker 3:

It's a little thick, but that's all right, it doesn't matter, it's an extra large.

Speaker 2:

That's right, that's right Go with it the point is.

Speaker 3:

you can get into it, so it counts. You can zip it all the way up. Oh yeah, Look at that.

Speaker 2:

I'm excited to pass these out. Northside Hospital once again has been so gracious to Bragg, and then, of course, we have the Bragg logo and on the back it has a map. So I'm excited, so I can't wait to see everybody and be like Christmas, Like one for you and one for you and one for you. You're going to be like a talk show.

Speaker 3:

You get a jersey and you get a team jersey.

Speaker 2:

Let's see here. Well, I think that makes us move on to something that I actually know that people are highly highly enjoying. So, without further ado, uh-oh, know that people are highly highly enjoying, so without further ado. Ladies and gentlemen, it's now time for Listener Spotlight. Alright, before you go, I have to tell you that I know where you're going. Mr johnny lambkin not only gave a guess, I mean, he just like stamped it, approvaled it, and and he's like, uh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna answer it backwards. Because he gave like I'm going to answer it backwards Because he gave the answer first and then he said why.

Speaker 3:

Now, do you want me to give the hints first, or do you want to do it that?

Speaker 2:

way It'll work. That's probably a better idea.

Speaker 3:

Okay, the hints that I gave you last time are as follows. The hints that I gave you last time are as follows the first white settlers came to the area in 1797. This town was originally named for the color of the land beside the river on which it sets. The current name was established in 1817 from a colonel. It was named after a colonel. It has a long history of manufacturing and I gave some hints as far as what type of manufacturing Steameries, which is, for those who don't know, facilities where they take the tobacco leaves and strip them for production, distilleries and wagon companies back in the day. And I also told you that it was a hotspot for people who love bluegrass music.

Speaker 2:

No-transcript and and it's not st louis- no, I didn't, even I didn't say that, but our, our, our fan wrote us, johnny lambkin, and he says the answer to listener spotlight named yellow banks, first Banks, first Bluegrass Museum, the Romp Festival and Johnny Depp's home. Ladies and gentlemen, johnny Lampkin has guessed Owensboro, kentucky, and he says his hometown.

Speaker 3:

Okay, now let me say one thing. I think a few weeks ago we had another listener who was very, very sure of his answer. Oh yes, maybe not quite this sure, but was very sure of the answer. Yes, and that was not correct.

Speaker 2:

But what about Johnny?

Speaker 3:

What about Johnny? Johnny, I really, really, really hate to disappoint myself, but you guessed exactly right the answer is Owensboro Kentucky.

Speaker 2:

Ladies and gentlemen, look at that.

Speaker 3:

That's right, that's right.

Speaker 2:

Johnny. Johnny went on to say, because you, you know, we do kind of do like a mailbag, um, I wrote him back and I said michael does not tell me the answer, but on next recording I'll mention your guess. I said, but it sounds like it's not a guess and he wrote back thank you for the podcast. Honestly, I look forward to each episode ever since I found it. So, johnny, not only thank you for being a listener, but thank you for your wonderful message.

Speaker 3:

That's right. Let me tell you a little bit more about Owensboro, kentucky. Okay, the first settler, like I said, came through in 1797, a frontiersman by the name of William Smothers. It was originally named, as he said, yellow Banks due to the color of the land that's set alongside the Ohio River which flows through that area. Its current name was established in 1817 from Colonel Adam Owens or Abraham Owens, excuse me who was the aide-de-camp to General William Henry Harrison. Colonel Owens was killed in the Battle of Tippecanoe. If any of you guys know who William Henry Harrison is, he was the ninth president of the United States and one of his big things was the fact that he was a war hero and he really, really pushed the Battle of Tippecanoe. So, ironically, the town's named after someone who did not make it through that military excursion. It has a long history of manufacturing. In fact, I believe today Adam the Sazerac Glenmore Distillery is still located there.

Speaker 2:

It does house the what's that. Maybe we should go visit Johnny.

Speaker 3:

I think we need to. The Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Owensboro and, yes, indeed, it is the hometown of Johnny Depp Nice.

Speaker 2:

Nice that is our, our first, first listener to get the listener spotlight Correct. Yes, that's awesome. It's pretty impressive. One of these times it's going to be St Louis, but not this time, not this time but keep guessing.

Speaker 3:

One of these days you'll be right. Well, that's great. I keep guessing One of these days, you'll be right.

Speaker 2:

Well, that's great, I love it. So thank you, listeners from Owensboro Kentucky, thank you all listeners. But this episode thank you, owensboro Kentucky listeners yes, thank you. So our last episode we went in kind of more of a deep diet about packing. But since our next adventure is coming up shortly big brag 2024, we're going to ride from Atlanta to Savannah.

Speaker 2:

If anyone's curious, you know, sometimes people like to know like how we do it you and I are actually going to fly into Savannah, we will build our bikes and then we'll probably put just a small little test ride, make sure everything looks good, feels good, um, and then we will put the bikes on, usually like a penske truck or u-haul truck, um, and then you and I hopefully with our friend armando and anybody else that's around taking the shuttle will board the shuttle bus from Savannah into Atlanta, to Oglethorpe University, and then the next morning we will start our adventure back to Savannah. But we did a deep dive on how we like to pack versus flying, versus not flying. But may I ask you how? I know you kind of tease my packing, which you are absolutely right. Usually I'm the guy who's got it all done. Everything's ready, I'm collecting dust, I'm waiting for everybody else. As you know, I've been working on a few things around the house, trying to get it done before our trip.

Speaker 3:

By the way his landscaping looks fantastic.

Speaker 2:

Thank, you, sir. Thank you, sir. So appreciate that, and I have to give credit where credit is due. My wife did some finishing touches with some flowers and some stuff, so everything looks great. And then the city hit me with a water inspection. Which pros and cons. I'm glad they do it because I don't want A to be contaminating my own water but I don't want my neighbors to contaminate my water. But of course it's all coming down at the end of the wire here. So my stuff is coming together.

Speaker 2:

Obviously, one of this was the jerseys. I've got our Shoreline jersey, which that came in as well. Did we talk about that? You know I'm not sure, but what happened was we are doing Shoreline, and Shoreline in Michigan is a ride from Alpena, michigan to Traverse City. Part of the ride entry, if you will, registration is you get a free jersey. Well, I happen to know the event director pretty well and I said, listen, do you do teams? I'm like brag and rag-brag do teams? And he said no, we just never had the team atmosphere. And I said, well, why don't we help out with that? And so everybody else is going to get a shoreline jersey.

Speaker 2:

Uh, ours, um, happens to just have everything that that brian fritz, who is the artist who designed it, which is really cool if anyone's ever been the friend of ours, we've ridden with him yeah, definitely, uh, and a wonderful, wonderful artist, um, and not because he did our logo, I mean, like his birds and bikes and all kinds of wonderful things that he does, he's so talented. He did the jersey. It's the Mackinac Bridge and it's kind of like an abstract kind of view of the Mackinac Bridge and it's really neat. Well, right on the front, boom RSA Cycling man of Leisure it's for women too. And on front, boom rsa cycling men of leisure is for women too. So, uh, and on the back as well. So, uh, pretty excited. So it'll, and you know, I'm sure it'll draw some attention.

Speaker 2:

Well, when I was working with primal, um, our, our salesperson said anything else that you guys are looking for? And I said I have a strange question and she said, yeah. I said can I take that same graphic and make it a tech shirt? And she's like well, let me talk to the graphics department, I'll get right back with you within like a half an hour. She wrote me back, so I was like we'll take that. So now we will have a tech shirt that says the same exact jersey and everything. So we'll get to actually, uh, do some advertising for shoreline while we're in georgia.

Speaker 3:

So so we've got a tech shirt that will exactly match the jersey identical except that'll be fun.

Speaker 2:

So it's awesome, um, cool, or actually. I don't think it has the pockets. I haven't opened it yet. I didn't. Usually when I get your stuff I give it to you still in the bags. I have an open mind either, but definitely going to be cool and I'm excited. One of our friends signed up for that. I'm not sure if he wants me to say his name or not, so I won't do that. But from listening to the show and there's a special code, if you're still looking for a week-long ride, it's $100 off. So if you're doing the full week and we thank Shoreline for giving that code to the listeners It'll be fun.

Speaker 3:

How's your packing coming? You know I'm not as far along as I normally am at this time. I'm not in any way shape or form going to try to say that I'm anywhere in your caliber of packing, because you are very, you're very organized and you're very you like to get things done. You know ahead of time and on that type of thing, which I think is great I don't necessarily work that way, that's okay, we're all different. Some stuff and as I came across stuff started stacking that out in my area of my basement that we don't really use for anything else. So I have started a bit on it, certainly started thinking about it. And then we kind of shared packing lists last week and I kind of started going down through there to make sure that I'm going to have everything. So I'd say maybe I've got about a quarter of the stuff that I need Cool.

Speaker 2:

So Our friend Mandy wrote me and she said are you guys bringing last year's Cycling man of Leisure jersey? I said we are, yes, we are. Mine's not going to fit but I'm going to bring it. And she said that's a good thing, but I will to bring it. And she said that's a good thing, but uh, I will definitely bring it. I can figure, I'll figure out a way.

Speaker 3:

So uh, do that Is she bringing hers.

Speaker 2:

I believe so yeah, that would be awesome that we could wear.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'm, I'm definitely bringing mine. Um, yours is going to be way big, isn't it? The triple.

Speaker 2:

X. As long as it's not a safety concern. I mean on a serious note. I mean, if it, if it hangs below my seat or something like that, then maybe I'll wear it for a picture, and then you know what we could. We could.

Speaker 3:

I think we can get you fixed up all right, fair enough.

Speaker 2:

So, um, yeah, if it's a safety concern, I'm not going to do it.

Speaker 3:

But no, I don't want you to do it, but, uh, I may have a way that we can remediate. We'll see. We'll see. But um, yeah, at least bring it for a picture and we'll do and we could do like they do on the uh, all the uh, the weight loss type commercials. You know, with the pant you could do the jersey. Yeah, this is a jersey I used to wear, and now here I am.

Speaker 2:

That's right, let's see here. Ooh, ooh, ooh anything. You said that you might have some new stuff.

Speaker 3:

I'm oh, yes, yes, uh. A couple of months ago, on the show you talked, you asked me are you bringing anything or going to be using anything new? And at that point in time I said no. Now you have like what's that?

Speaker 3:

now you have a new chain, I have a new chain that's it, just want to announce I got a new chain, okay, no, um, I would like to change my answer to say there is two things that I'm going to bring that's new this year that I'm going to try out, all right, um, and maybe they'll work, maybe they won't. So, uh, the first one is I have the collapsible or the foldable helmet from Fendt.

Speaker 2:

You did get it in.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, my wife had. We had talked about it last November or December about great ideas for cyclists. My wife got it for me At the time. They were all out of yellow, they had black, and it's like I think this is great, great. But you know me, I really like a yellow helmet because, you know, stands out, um, might, might, help me not get hit by a car someday. So, uh, the company was gracious enough to let me exchange it, got it back, so I'm going to give that a try, see how it goes. Nice, uh, and the other thing is.

Speaker 2:

I have a helmet, the guardian. Did you get the? The guardian? You know, the nfl just passed that thing, the padded looking thing.

Speaker 3:

I should just do that and wear it underneath it and have double the might be a little hot and maybe I'll just wear the guardian around after cycling. You can just run into people.

Speaker 2:

I don't think your brim is going to fit on the Guardian.

Speaker 3:

Oh, that's a shame, doggone it.

Speaker 2:

All right, go ahead.

Speaker 3:

The other thing is I'm bringing a rechargeable tire inflator.

Speaker 2:

Oh, okay.

Speaker 3:

You charge it up because we've always had, and we've talked about on the show. Uh, the problem with the cartridges is you can't fly with cartridges, and I know you can bring a man, you know a hand pump, but that's always a pain. Uh, so I'm going to see if this is, by chance, a good alternative to the the cartridge systems. Okay, now we are still bringing cartridges just in case. This is an Epic failure, but we're going to try it out, and so what I think I'll do is I'll try it for the whole week and we'll report back at one of the episodes following the ride and then, uh, I'll give you kind of a review, see, see if it was good, bad or otherwise now, I knew that you had the uh, the rechargeable inflator, but I did not fail us.

Speaker 2:

I've already ordered the CO2, and they're already on the way to our hotel and they will be there.

Speaker 3:

Well, I think, when it comes to tires, it's smart to have a backup plan, Because if this is like an epic fail, well then you know not good.

Speaker 2:

Well, we will have the backup. So, and also, sometimes it's not bad, because if you and I get separated or something, then then you, you've got the tire inflated and I'm like, well, that's great, I need a CO2 now.

Speaker 3:

So so we're going to see. We're going to see how that goes, and and I think the other day you did ask me if I was going to bring a second helmet, and you know what, I think I'm just going to go with one helmet, okay.

Speaker 2:

And just take my chances. I thought maybe on the plane you could be like strap the helmet on.

Speaker 3:

No, that's only if they flash the. You know, put your helmet on at this point in time or something. The put your helmet on sign.

Speaker 2:

True story I used know put your helmet on at this point in time or something. They, they put your helmet on, sign. True story. I used to, uh, be a scuba diver. I don't know if I ever told you that, but um, long time ago and we were in hawaii and we were on a hawaiian air jet and they were like, oh, your bags are too heavy. And it wasn't because I had to pay more, they were just too heavy. And the lady said you got to take something out. Well, everything for scuba diving was there. And so she's like what is that? And I go, that's my vest for scuba diving. She's like okay, well, that can't go down there below. You got to take that with you.

Speaker 2:

Sure enough, I I literally, at first I had it just like wrapped around my backpack, like on one shoulder, and I thought, forget it, just own it. If you got to like on one shoulder, and I thought, forget it, just own it If you got to carry it on the plane, I mean it would be humorous. And, sure enough, I strap on, see everything ready to go. And we get on the plane. There's a guy next to me, he's got one on too. He's like is your bags way too much. I'm like, yeah, I was trying to be funny. And he's like, yeah, it's not very funny, is it? And I go no, actually it's not, but you kind of ruined the joke.

Speaker 3:

My question for you is when you got on the plane, did you maintain neutral buoyancy?

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, Okay, that's all that matters. I keep having to adjust my vest.

Speaker 3:

Adjusting it. Oh, not quite, you know, but you know, but I had a little, take a little out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, cause that's important.

Speaker 3:

You know I got airbag, uh, but the good news is, if there was a you know the water, the water landing, as they call it you wouldn't have to reach under your seat or anything. You just you're ready to go.

Speaker 2:

I got to do this. This is Malaysia Flight 370. No, no, no, that's bad. That's bad. Hey, I said we keep it clean. I didn't use any foul language. Well, that's true, and I never know if they find that plane or not. Every time I turn on the news they're like new in events we found the missing Malaysia plane. I don't think they found it yet. Maybe they have, who knows?

Speaker 3:

You ever watch a TV show Lost?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, there, it is the helmet that's folding. I know that it's a Fend helmet, is that F-E-N-D?

Speaker 3:

F-E-N-D.

Speaker 2:

For anyone wondering who didn't get to hear that show, we'll drop the link down here below um, but the folding helmet when I first heard about it I kind of when you first said it because we did a show about like gifts that you could get your cyclist and your family and when you first said the folding helmet I was like I just pictured like mayhem, like folding bicycle helmet, like what are you talking about?

Speaker 2:

like this little origami thing I'm pulling out of my pocket, exactly, you know and you're taking your rechargeable air pump and going and all the air, all the, all the cells you know are expanding but actually about, I'd say, like 60 of the curvature is actually a solid piece. It's the two curvatures I know. I'm on youtube and and if you're on sound, uh, if you're listening to this on the podcast, just picture your helmet where it goes above your ears and those pieces kind of fold into the top fold right into that centerpiece.

Speaker 3:

So then you kind of have this long rectangular shape. And it's got two little mechanisms right up at the top inside there. They're just two little tabs where you just kind of push them out, yeah, and then it folds back down.

Speaker 2:

So when it folds down, does it click lock in place?

Speaker 1:

Yes, Okay, that's cool, all right.

Speaker 2:

So that's cool, and I know that when we looked at it it had like all kinds of like lighting accessories. Did you do any of that, or are you just going to stick with?

Speaker 3:

that I did not. No, no, they did give me. They have reflective stickers that are like cut for all the different things, so I am going to put those on, but no lighting wise, I only do that if I'm night riding, so it's bright yellow. I am going to put the little reflective stickers on there, but other than that, no, but it'll be interesting. The only thing I see right off the bat with this I wish it had like a bag. It needs a bag like you know, the type of bag that Blanton's comes in, or Royal Crown, something like that. It needs a bag. It can't, it's got to be a little longer than that, but it needs some type of bag like that that's got a drawstring on it that you could just slide it in and do that. That would make it really convenient.

Speaker 2:

Somebody I work with used all those Crown Royal bags and made like a quilt Quilt. Thank you so much. It was actually really cool because they had like different versions, like peach bags that looked, you know, different colors.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, now they've got. The other day they've even got a red, white and blue camo one.

Speaker 2:

Now Could you even see it? Just kidding, but it's a horrible joke, that's a stupid joke that's why I didn't laugh. Yeah, I know, but you know, uh, we've been. You know I love to cruise and we've been, we've been places where, like right in the right in the documentation, it says you cannot wear a camouflage off of the boat because it's they, it's what the military wears there, and so you can't represent the military. So, um, oh yes, fun fact for someone who didn't know that. But, um, uh, hey, your uh rechargeable pump.

Speaker 3:

Uh, presta and schrader yes, sir nice and and if you bring your basketball or soccer ball, I can actually fill that up too.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm sure somewhere along the line, there'll be something that maybe an air mattress. Can you inflate my air mattress?

Speaker 3:

I cannot inflate an air mattress, sorry.

Speaker 2:

Hey, remember, remember, uh, um, is it team paparazzi that had that? Yeah, that had the handheld Ryobi, right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, exactly yes.

Speaker 2:

I mean, they were here, you and I were like it was.

Speaker 3:

Like what was? His name Was Greg, I think, Something I don't know. Team Paparazzi yeah, they had the handheld thing to do it up.

Speaker 2:

But if I remember correctly, I believe you got a new air mattress and I believe it is very similar to mine and it's auto inflating it. Not only similar, I think. You sent me the link, so we'll be. I did. I will until I put my my uh, I can't think of some children's cartoon right now. Oh, uh, my little pony sheets on there, and then I'll be, then I'll be on my own.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you will be on your own buddy. No, the my Little Pony section is over there on the other side of the gymnasium.

Speaker 2:

No, I got my Amazon $12 gray specials that's the same sheets I used to put on my truck, matt. So I got them all washed up and ready to go. So I am getting there up and ready to go. So that's, yeah, I am getting there. So let's see here, check tire inflator. Michael orders it to brim, just kidding. No, yeah, just kidding. Hey, let's talk about what we were talking about, like with our next show. I think we need to just explain that for our listeners. Okay, so Michael and I, even through some horrible times in Michael's life currently at home, we stuck to the schedule. We take a lot of pride in sticking to the four o'clock eastern time, which every two weeks real time. I mean it should be the real time, it's eastern time.

Speaker 2:

So, um, just kidding says those people from back east uh listen, check your stocks on on my schedule and you can watch tv on yours, but I'm kidding.

Speaker 3:

You need to review what time the stock market opens.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I know what time it opens and usually about three minutes later I'm losing money. But just kidding. On a serious note, we take a lot of pride in having the show come on every two weeks. I know that a lot of podcasts, you know, sometimes do weekly, sometimes do even I mean, they're crazy, but you know every other day they're putting on a show, or some you know radio stations do it every day. But for us, you know, we take a lot of pride in having content that we think that that people would be interested in or or hope that they're interested in, and so we take a lot of pride in having the show come out every two weeks, even to the time that last weekend, um, we were busting it and finishing it on sunday morning, um, in between doing other things. But we're gonna ask for a little bit of a break.

Speaker 2:

This time we are traveling. Um, all you know, as my mechanic says, lord, lord willing, we will land back on June 9th, which normally, traditionally, the show was supposed to come out, the next one on June 9th. This one came out on May 26th and usually two weeks later would be June 9th. But we are going to be at Big Brag While we are taking lots of recording equipment, we'll get a lot of content. We're actually bringing video recording equipment and we're bringing audio recording equipment, and normally those two things go together, but we have separate pieces as well.

Speaker 2:

So we're going to have some content to filter through, go through and, instead of just throwing something together that just really wouldn't have any interest, we're going to need a few extra days, so the show will not come out on its normal uh, june 9th, but I don't want to say when it's going to come out.

Speaker 2:

I'm like I mean, I would shoot for maybe the 11th or 12th or 13th, but we're going to give the show justice and then, yes, we will get right back on track. So, even though this one comes out a few days, we'll make sure that we have another show out within a week and so, from there, just stay on track and get back on our normal schedule. So just wanted to mention that for all of our valued listeners and we appreciate you and all the sharing that you do, and so, don't worry, we hope to put our thoughts of thoughts of big brag and what went well, what may have not gone so well. Hopefully it's minor. Usually we have a phenomenal time and we're both excited for the next adventure. So anything to add on that.

Speaker 3:

No, I, you know it's nice to set expectation, just to say, you know, out of respect for you guys, we want to make sure you understand where we're coming from. Hopefully, we are taking all of this extra equipment and we are going to make a very big effort to really be recording different things every single day. And you get on these rides and it gets kind of difficult because you're out there and sometimes it's hot and the conditions aren't always the best. You're out there and sometimes it's hot and the conditions aren't always the best. But we've both kind of pledged each other that we're going to make a really big, asserted effort to get out there, do recordings every day. So hopefully we have some good content, and not just necessarily around the ride itself, but I'm hoping to meet some interesting people.

Speaker 3:

I would love to catch some interesting cycling stories and that type of stuff. So it's my hope that when we get back we're going to have some really good content for the next couple episodes to share with you, not just about the ride itself, but some of the people that we met, some of the people that we've already known, things like that. So it should be interesting. It is a lot more work for us to drag the equipment along and that type of thing. I mean we could do it on our cell phone. But, as we talked earlier, we really like to try to get the best quality possible. So you know we're going to give it our best and bear with us. We'll have an episode there shortly after we get back.

Speaker 2:

Perfect, perfect. Let's see here. Let me check my notes. We've sent the CO2. We've got packing. I need to give just a little bit of credit. We've got a few people from the team who are pitching in and helping us out, and so I just want to say thank you to all of those people. You and I travel with bike boxes and storing those and figuring out what we're going to do and how we're going to get back and forth from our hotel to the shuttle. We've got it all all squared away and for everybody involved, we say thank you. So, yes, I think there's only two things left to do, unless you have anything else.

Speaker 2:

I don't want to no, no, no so I think the first thing that we're going to do is is you said you've already got a another listener spotlight.

Speaker 3:

I do indeed. All right, are All right. Are you ready for it? I'm ready. Okay, here we go. Listener Spotlight City for this week's hints are as follows the first Europeans visited this area in 1792. The history of this city has really been one of boom and bust from an economical point of view, meaning, you know, the industries that they've had have been really hot and heavy for a great deal and then they've just, you know, went to nothing. You could say that this city is, in fact, fact, one of the smartest in the united states. It is a extremely bike friendly city and one of its most famous landmarks, I'm going to say it's a landmark that everyone would recognize was originally, uh, conceptualized and doodled on a napkin. How are those good?

Speaker 2:

good, I see I've lost you. I'm here, uh, I'm here. Verbally, my camera has shut down and so, um, we were talking a little bit beforehand, and so it's a slr camera that that is known to have this issue.

Speaker 3:

So I am here, um, and you'll notice that my old school camera seems to work just fine. I'm just saying yes, and I might actually give you one more hint. Okay, this town is the hometown of someone who has taught the fans that two Winchesters can take out just about anything.

Speaker 2:

Someone who has taught the fans that two Winchesters can take out about anything.

Speaker 3:

Okay, cryptic huh. Hmm, now, this is a dead giveaway. Anybody obviously fans. So it's some type of movie or show. Uh, if there's people out there, they're going to know exactly who's familiar with this. They're going to know exactly what I'm talking about. Clearly, you're not one of those people.

Speaker 2:

Oh I know, it's John Wayne, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 3:

So there you go. That's our hints for the next one.

Speaker 2:

All right, well, I will not insult you with a guess from a little-known town.

Speaker 3:

Well, all I have to say is to our listener there Johnny, good luck on this one, buddy.

Speaker 2:

Now come on. Don't be insulting our listener.

Speaker 3:

I'm not being insulting, I'm just saying good luck on this one. Well listen, he threw down the gauntlet and it. What was cool is the fact that he didn't even I mean, he knew exactly what it was and he justified the answers and he was like boom, I mean, there was no question at all. That was beautiful, I loved it well, he's a good man. We appreciate you but I don't think he's going to do it on this one. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

You don't know, maybe.

Speaker 3:

Now, if he does do it, we'll have him come on and start doing these things.

Speaker 2:

Well, all right. Well, the only thing left for me to say and I know you can't see me and I apologize, but pretty soon, with any bit of luck, there's going to be six great days for a bike ride. So, absolutely, all right. Buddy, have a good night, all right.

Speaker 3:

See you later.
