Aug 14, 2023 Season 1 Episode 23
Dr. John P Hayes

DESCRIPTION:

Brian Woods, Vice President of Franchise Development at Neighborly, discusses his career trajectory and the growth of franchising.

Neighborly has 32 home service brands and over 5,500 franchise locations in nine countries.

Woods is responsible for the development of seven franchise brands, six of which were established under the leadership of Don Dwyer, the founder of Dwyer Group which later became Neighborly.

Woods is a key driver in the strategic direction of these brands, focusing on growth and market expansion.

He is passionate about changing people's lives through business ownership, providing financial flexibility and creating a legacy.

Woods' entry into franchising was unorthodox, starting his career on Wall Street and later transitioning into corporate strategy. He stumbled into franchising while working for G6 Hospitality, the parent company of Motel 6 and Studio 6, where he was responsible for driving the growth of these franchise brands. He later transitioned into a pure franchise development role, responsible for developing the Motel 6 and Studio 6 franchise in the western part of the United States.

Woods joined Neighborly two years ago and has spent the last eight to nine years of his career in franchising.

Despite criticisms of franchising, Woods believes it offers opportunities for financial growth and flexibility. He has seen a surge in interest in franchising since the pandemic, as people reevaluate their career paths and seek more control over their lives.
