Speaker 1:

The Sports Update on 88.2 San UFM, san UFM at 30, yaris and Shane Uganda life just a easeman name here, with the latest in the world of sports and we are coming to you straight from the heart of Kampala. Now the Uganda tennis open returns to the local calendar for the first time since 2013,. That is 10 years ago. This is a premier tennis event that did start on Friday and will go until Saturday this week at the logo go tennis complex. The Uganda loan tennis general secretary Alvin Bagaya has shared with San UFM why the competition is that important.

Speaker 3:

The Uganda Open is the one that determines who is the top seed in the country, who is the top seed for the open in the region. It has attracted a number of players and 144, that you want for renors 10 countries. I think this has been a very good turn up. The men's draw is a draw of 64. We had quite an overwhelming entry for the open. That has come after a few number of years and the board has worked tirelessly under Chairman Mathias Naliania to make sure that we bring this premier event back onto the Ugandan scene.

Speaker 1:

Bagaya is also optimistic that the competition will be a success, especially with government support coming through national council of sports.

Speaker 3:

The head of the local organizing committee, mr Daniel Chazey, has done an amazing job, together with the tournament director, victor Drille. I think they've done quite an amazing job putting this together. Most of all, national council of sports. They have been a key part of putting tennis on the right path. They have been very important to us in the sense that they have funded the whole open Such a huge step for us as Ugandan tennis, and to have national council of sports reports by our side making sure that everything is successful has been very important.

Speaker 1:

Away from that. For the first time last week, the government of Uganda came out officially to reveal why the national netball team, the Shikrans, are not taking part in the African netball championship that comes to an end today in Botswana. The reverence was made by the state minister for sports, sir Peter Wang, on the floor of parliament last week.

Speaker 4:

The normalization committee, in consultation with the world network, agreed that the Shikrans should not participate in the African netball championship 2023 in Botswana, malawi and South Africa. Who is drew, and therefore Uganda's participation would have no effect in terms of ranking, since Uganda is ranked number one in Africa, and Uganda will participate in Wales and England, where Uganda can't increase on its ranking.

Speaker 1:

The minister also revealed that the Shikrans are ranked third on the continent and seventh in the world. Who would be taking part in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup slated for January 20th to the 24th in London and Leeds, that's, in England?

Speaker 4:

Further to the above, the National Council of Sports had released funds to support Uganda's participation in the side championship and those funds are available with the normalization committee to facilitate the teams in the first coming international ranking tournaments in Wales and England, due to take place in January. Upon the realization by Wales Netball and England Netball that WSBA illegally signed contracts on behalf of Uganda's legal federation, they have both requested the normalization committee to sign new agreements for Uganda's participation, which has been done, and the team will adequately participate for the same cause.

Speaker 1:

While still discussing matters, netball embattled Uganda's legal federation. President Tassara Babidehtio has continued to insist that she is innocent from all the charges that the state has against her. Babidehtio was last week a granted bail for crimes that she failed to account for about 186 million galashirings given to her by National Council of Sports for the pain series and Netball Championship in Namibia. Babidehtio, who is currently out of office as the sport is under normalization committee, insists she is innocent.

Speaker 2:

Now, to my surprise, is that I slept in Rosira over 186 million. So he has now changed his version from 425 to 186. But even if it is 186, because that is the truth, they gave me 186. I traveled with 27 people. Two other officials, that is, honorable Hamson Obua and Dr Patrick Benadoguel, traveled to Namibia with us. They stayed there in suits. They left without paying, so I paid for 29 people. We stayed there for 21 days apart from that too, but the rest of the 27 people who are in Namibia for 21 days 27 people. These are 186 million. But to my surprise is that they are claiming I am based on 186 million.

Speaker 1:

Babidehtio at one time claimed that National Council of Sports was asking her to account for much more than what she has been given, something she has said and again said she won't do.

Speaker 2:

What do these people want from me? What else my side do? Do they want to see me dead or what? All I did was to tell the truth, I can't account for more than what I received. I received 186 and I accounted for it. So if they really want that accountability, they should refer to that accountability that I gave them. If they no longer have it, they should refer to the accountability that I submitted to the IGD. If they are not convinced, they should refer to the accountability I submitted to the auditor general's office. All these reports are from the big government editors.

Speaker 1:

Looking at matters, Uganda Premier League. Ksfc manager Abdelamobiru won his first game of the season last week as he side defeated Gaddafi football club 61 at Lugo Go, with Mohamed Shaban and Lusama Arafat helping themselves to breast. It was the second win for KSFC this season, as they remain in the red zone of the 16 team log on 7 points. Tablik says it is a journey that they are just starting.

Speaker 5:

We are on our way, trying to get up from the situation the club has been in, trying to lift the confidence of the players and, of course, the performance levels and getting good results on the pitch.

Speaker 1:

In the Premier League, arsenal maintained their form, defeating Uwampun Wanderers 2-1, keeping themselves at the top of the 20 team log. Manchester City played to a thrilling at 3 all draw against Odomah Spass yesterday, the result that had dropped them to 3rd on 30 points, 3 points off table. Leaders Liverpool Foubo Club staged an impressive comeback to clinch a 4-3 victory over Fulham Foubo Club, trading 3-2. With just minutes to spare, they secured the win with let goers coming in from Trekk Alexander-Arnold. The result that took them to 3rd 1 points, a second on the log and just 2 points behind leaders Arsenal. Manchester United faced a setback, losing at 1-0 to Nukas United as they dropped to 7th, 5 points off 4th place Aston Villa. Chelsea Foubo Club bounced back from their defeat to Nukas United, overcoming Brighton 3-2. They attained on the log with 19 points. That brings us to the end of the sports update. Good morning.
