The Pearl of Africa Rally stands as the pinnacle of Uganda's rally calendar and arguably the most significant sporting event in the country since 1996.

As we gear up for the 2024 edition, which also marks the opening round of the African Rally Championship from May 10th to 12th, anticipation and excitement are palpable.

In this episode of the Sports Journal, we delve into the heart of the rally with insights from key figures shaping its course.

I had the privilege of conversing with Jimmy Akena, the newly elected President of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), alongside Reynold Kibira, the General Secretary, Omar Mayanja, the Clerk of Course, Nasser Mutebi, the 2010 National Rally Champion, and the seasoned journalist Robert Nkollo, known commonly as Rob Styles.

Their shared experiences, expectations, and insights into the Pearl of Africa Rally offer a compelling narrative of what makes this event so special.
