Speaker 1:

Welcome to a very special episode of Reverse Reset Restore where we're guiding you through a 7-day well-being program for World Well-Being Week. I'm Sally and I'm a recovering perfectionist on my own journey of personal development. Over the next 7 days, we are offering you opportunities to re-examine your well-being. From breathing meditations to moving your body and beyond, change comes from within. Today, we're looking at the importance of having self-care rituals in your life. World Wellbeing Week serves as a poignant reminder to pause, reflect and nurture ourselves. One of the most effective ways to do this is through intentional self-care rituals that cater to our mind, body and soul. Self-care rituals are not indulgences. They are essential practices that replenish our energy and enhance our overall well-being. Whether it's a soothing bubble bath accompanied by calming music, a therapeutic massage to unwind tense muscles, a contemplative nature walk or simply immersing oneself in a good book, these rituals offer profound benefits. Here are my top five benefits of self-care rituals. Number one stress reduction. Taking time for self-care helps to alleviate stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of calmness and relaxation. Number two enhanced self-esteem. Engaging in activities that prioritize self-care communicates self-worth and reinforces positive self-esteem. Number three emotional balance. Rituals such as mindfulness practices or journaling can foster emotional stability and resilience. Number four increased self-awareness. By dedicating time to ourselves, we become more attuned to our needs, our emotions and our inner thoughts. And number five self-compassion. Self-care encourages us to treat ourselves with kindness and compassion, fostering a nurturing relationship with ourselves. In our 100th episode, which dropped earlier today, I looked at the importance and value of self-compassion and the idea that being more compassionate towards ourselves allows us to be free. It allows us to have much more meaningful relationships with other people and, ultimately, it creates an opportunity for us to heal from perhaps some of the wounds that we're holding. So that's a really wonderful episode. I would encourage you to check it out if self-compassion is an area in your life that you need to work on.

Speaker 1:

In today's fast-paced world, prioritizing self-care is not just beneficial, but it's necessary. It allows us to recharge our energy reserves, maintain balance in our lives and cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves. When we neglect self-care, we risk burnout, we find decreased productivity and a decreased sense of self-worth, and diminished overall well-being. As we celebrate World Well-Being Week, I want to encourage you to explore and create your own self-care rituals. I bet you already had an idea pop into your head about what you could do for yourself. Listen to that idea or that thought, because if that popped into your mind, it's something that you know is going to enhance your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. So if you had the thought pop into your mind, do that. I encourage you. But because I always like to give you some options, here are 12 self-care routines that you can consider adding into your own life on a regular basis.

Speaker 1:

Number one a morning meditation. Start your day with a guided meditation session to set a positive tone for the day ahead. Mindfulness is a mental practice and a state of consciousness characterized by focused awareness on the present moment, without judgment or attachment to the thoughts, feelings or sensations that arise. It involves paying deliberate attention to your thoughts, emotions, thoughts, bodily sensations and the surrounding environment in a non-reactive, accepting way. Just a heads up that on day seven of this seven day program, I'm going to take you through a breathing meditation that's going to just focus on your breathing in and your breathing out and allow you a moment to consciously connect to your breath, which is a force of energy within each of us. Number two take a bubble bath and pop in some essential oils. Indulge in a luxurious bubble bath if you're fortunate enough to have one in your house. Infuse it with calming essential oils like lavender or chamomile and just bliss out with the bubbles. Number three forest bathing, or, as it's known in Japanese, shanrin yoku. Take a leisurely walk in nature, focusing on the sights and the sounds and the scents around you, to reduce stress and boost mood. Number four dance therapy. You know me, I love a good tune. Put on your favorite music and dance like no one's watching, to release pent-up emotions and boost endorphins. If you are someone who has enjoyed dancing in the past, or you even enjoy watching dancing, don't be afraid to get up and move your body around, and your body will thank you for it, your mood will thank you for it and your mind will also be enhanced by this practice.

Speaker 1:

Number five laugh therapy. We talked about the healing power of laughter in episode 97, healing Through Humor the power of laughter for wellness. Laughter is a natural and accessible way to enhance both physical health and mental well-being. It's a tool we all possess and the best part is that it is free and easy to use. So I want to encourage you to make laughter a regular part of your life. Watch a comedy show or spend time with someone who makes you laugh to lighten your mood and reduce your stress. Embrace humor, seek out joy and remember that laughter is a powerful elixir for a healthier, happier you.

Speaker 1:

Number six try a tea ritual. Brew a cup of herbal tea, sip it slowly and savor the flavors while practicing mindfulness. Number seven flotation tank session. We've talked about this in a previous episode as well. I did on looking at how floating can be really beneficial for your physicality as well as your mental health. Floating is where you are placed in a tank of water that is filled with epsom salts or magnesium, which means that you just float like you're in space. It's amazing. If you want to better manage your stress, your pain, creativity, sleep and overall well-being, floating could be the key to improving your life.

Speaker 1:

Number eight moonlight or stargaze. Spend an evening outdoors under the stars, reflecting on the vastness of the universe, and gain some fresh perspective. Enjoy. If you live in a city, like I do, sometimes you don't get to see the night sky as clearly. So if you can take an opportunity to go out into nature, away from the light pollution that comes with inner city living, and see if you can see the stars and the galaxy and what comes out of that for you. Number nine try a sound bath. No, you're not putting a bunch of speakers in the bath and hopping in. What you're going to do with a sound bath is immerse yourself in the healing vibrations of sound therapy by attending the sound bath session or using sound bowls at home to promote relaxation and reduce stress.

Speaker 1:

Number 10, creative expression. Engage in a creative activity such as painting, writing, crafting, knitting, whatever feels creative to you, to express yourself freely and unwind. Number 11. Spa night at home. Treat yourself to a DIY spa night with face masks, maybe a mani-pedi and soothing music. Rope in a friend or your partner or your kids to give you a massage in the neck and the shoulders and the back. If you've got someone that can do that for you, even better. Have someone come in and give you a massage in the comfort of your own home. And number 12, nature sounds playlist. Create a playlist of nature sounds, which might be rustling leaves, bird songs, flowing stream, the sound of the ocean crashing upon the shore, lightning and thunder and all things frightening. Listening to natural sounds while you relax or even if you're at work will help to bring a sense of calm and connection to nature into your day.

Speaker 1:

Remember, self-care rituals are personal and should align with your unique needs and preferences. Start small, experiment with different activities and gradually build a routine that supports your well-being. Aim to do something just for you every single day. As we wrap up this episode, I want to remind you that self-care is not selfish. It's a fundamental pillar of a healthy and fulfilling life. By integrating self-care rituals into our daily routines, we empower others to navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace. This World Wellbeing Week, let's commit to nurturing our mind, our body and our soul through intentional acts of self-care. Embrace the power of self-care rituals and embark on a journey towards greater well-being and a peace. How do you plan to incorporate self-care rituals into your routine? I'd love for you to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments on the Reverse Reset Restore Facebook page or Instagram page or, if your streaming platform allows, in the comments below. Rounding out our episode today is this quote author, unknown. I love it. I hope you do too. You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people.
