Speaker 1:

So you're thinking about running but not sure how to take the first step. My name is Brian Patterson and I'm here to help. Welcome to Brian's Rompod, welcome to brian's romp or trailer, and I'm your host. Brian, now for female runners in the audience, have you ever wondered what the science is behind the sports bra? Also, what are the key pilates exercises to help you with your running? Now we hope to answer both of those questions in an up-and-coming interviews and brian's run pod.

Speaker 1:

The first we have coming up is with dr nicola renwick, who is part of the team at portsmouth university doing leading research into the sports bra. This episode promises a journey through the evolution of women's running bras, from the early designers to the cutting edge technology that now shapes these vital pieces of sportswear. Now prepared to gain expert insights into how the right support can revolutionise a female's run as experience, with practical advice on choosing the perfect sports bra. Dr Rymwick's collaboration with esteemed organisations like the English National Institute of Sport and the British Olympic Association underscores the calibre and knowledge shared within. Here's an excerpt of the interview where I ask her about if they'd worked with the Lionesses prior to the Euros.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, it's really great and I'm glad you kind of brought up the football. So we as a research group we've worked with the Lionesses prior to the Euros. We like to say, you know, we helped prescribe the bra.

Speaker 1:

Oh brilliant, oh okay, I didn't know that, I didn't know that.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, we ran educational workshops with the Lionesses before the tournament and then we did bra fittings with them as well and we were able to prescribe them and offer them bras to wear during the tournament, and one of those bras got quite a lot of attention.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yes, so you must have been thinking yeah, yeah, it was great.

Speaker 2:

But it's like you said, from that, though, and from that picture that's inspired so many, you know, young women, young girls, and to get back into sport and to yeah, it's been great. And from that we, we get a lot of interest from sports clubs and, um, you know, and these are, you know, at the elite level, all different kinds of sports, but and also kind of local groups, community groups, you know, recreational running clubs.

Speaker 2:

We've, since then, we've had such a massive increase in kind of offering them these kind of bra workshops, awareness advice yeah, and so so the appetite is there for it um to learn and to educate everyone, so it's really great, so that that was a really great experience for us to see the impact that that had that was brilliant.

Speaker 1:

That must mean a good moment. Our next interview is with favorite pilates instructor, lucy tomlinson. I was keen to catch up what she's been doing and to delve into her performer videos that she's been doing on Instagram. We will uncover the seamless harmony between the art of dance and Pilates through the touching narrative about my dance instructor's foray into the transformative practice. Lucy brings to light the unique intricacies and advantages of the reformer Pilates, sparking an enthusiasm for its potential to deepen our connection to our body's core strength and poise.

Speaker 3:

In this excerpt from the interview, I asked lucy about all these reformer exercises she's been doing on instagram and how they looked really difficult yeah, I mean the reformer's great and I've been sharing, yeah, some exercises that I do on the Reformer, because I've been teaching Matworks for a lot longer than the Reformer. The Reformer's great. There's so many different things you can do on it. So I kind of do the videos, partly for me to remember what I've been teaching, so that I can then progress clients as I go. But yeah, the Reformer's great because I think probably some of the things I post look a bit tricky or challenging. Yeah, yeah, but it's not just like that. So I mean, you could come on a reformer. If we had one here right now and I could you would be able to do lots of stuff on it. They're not as scary as they look.

Speaker 1:

basically, Now, these episodes will be dropping into your feed from the 14th of April, so please do have a listen.
