Speaker 1:

Hi and welcome to the have the Audacity podcast, where we are all about living our own version of our best life. My name is Jacey. I'm a multi-passionate human obsessed with personal growth, and I want you to come on this journey with me, where we share our stories and learn tools, tips and tricks to live the life we were always meant to live. So let's lean into the uncomfortable, celebrate our highs and embrace our lows, because all of it's important. It may get a little messy, but it's time to have the audacity. Hey, audacious Human, I'm so glad that you're here for today's episode, and it is wild. We're closing in on 100. This is so cool. I promise to always celebrate all the things along the way, because you don't get to skip the beginning. I'm never going to be in this spot again and you're never going to be wherever you are chasing your goals and the visions and your dreams. You're never going to be at this moment again. You don't get it back, and so we got to be present and enjoy the moment and look forward to the future. You get to have both, and we are going in to this time and I'm just taking you along for the ride of being very unapologetically myself and unfiltered, and we're rolling with it. So here we go. I want to come to you today to talk about something that I've really been thinking about a lot, and that is this concept that Katie Saltzman I am in her membership community because you have to be in the room and be in the energy with people and she was talking about on. She had a Facebook live in the Facebook group and she was talking about this concept and if you don't know who Katie Saltzman is, she was on episode 25. And if you haven't listened to it, I'll link in the show notes. It was an amazing episode. I love Katie so much and I'm so grateful that I get to call her a friend.

Speaker 1:

But anyway, I was watching her talk and she was talking about this idea that hard decisions to make can now make for an easier life later and easy decisions to make right now make for an harder life later. And approaching decisions that you have to make in the moment with that mindset and through that lens and I can't get it out of my head since I have heard it and you think about it it's so easy. She was talking about it in the sense of health and fitness and getting a workout and she was. Like you know, in the moment it's hard to make yourself not push snooze. You don't want to get up, you want to sleep. It's hard.

Speaker 1:

The easy decision is to push snooze, but it's going to make your life harder later because you're not going to get through a whole sleep cycle in the 10 minutes before your alarm goes off and you're not. So then you're going to wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle and it's going to be disrupted, and now you're going to be tired because that got thrown off, and so now you're going to spend all day. Life is going to be like. Your day is going to be harder because you're going to be more tired because you chose to push snooze. Or you could make the hard decision, which is to get up when your alarm goes off, or get up when you wake up on your own, and your day's going to be easier because your energy's going to feel better because you didn't go through that sleep cycle, disruption in the morning or in the context of a workout or movement and whatever daily movement that is for you that the hard decision is to get yourself to go do it. Even people who consistently go to the gym every day. It's a decision. It becomes easier the more reps you put in, but you still have days where it's hard and so if you're trying to make this habit here, the hard decision is to get up and go do it. If you're tired and you don't want to, we are human, welcome to the club it happens. The hard decision is to go do it. So the easy decision is to sit and watch five hours of Netflix and hang out and chill. But you make that easy decision day after day after day after day, and you don't make the hard decision because you're avoiding the hard decision and the uncomfortableness of starting a new workout, starting a new movement and what all that's going to bring the inflammation and the being sore and like. It's not fun in the beginning. It's not the beginning of anything, and so you make this easy decision day after day after day.

Speaker 1:

Well then, what happens? Your life's harder because you don't have the mobility that you need, you don't have the strength that you need to do things in your life like normal daily things. Or you make the hard decision upfront and, even though you want to sit and watch five hours of Netflix, you don't want to do anything. You're like I'm going to go for a walk for 30 minutes. I'm going to go walk for 10 minutes because that 10 minutes is probably going to turn into 30. But you tell yourself 10 minutes to trick your brain into actually going and doing the thing. So you go, I'm going to go for 10 minutes. That turns into 30. And you can still compromise on one of your favorite shows. You don't have to watch all five tonight. They're still going to be there thanks to streaming. So watch one, and what's going to happen is then you're going to have the ability just to move about your life without getting tired and out of breath, just from walking, making the hard decision. So how often in life do we do that? We could apply this to so many things. Once I got heard this concept, I saw it everywhere.

Speaker 1:

Think about it with food Ease. The decision in the moment is to go buy fast food. What happens if you make that every day Long term in your life? Make your life harder because your health is going to be bad because you eat out all the time. Hard decision in the moment is to cook. We all know that that can be hard. And the thing about being an adult that nobody tells you about. That is horrible. Is deciding what's for dinner every night. Like, for the love of all things, breakfast down, milled puppy lunches perfect. Designing what's for dinner, the worst, so hard decision. Cooking dinner what happens? Making your life easier? Sure, health is better for it. You have more money in the bank account because, like, let's be real, inflation is a thing. Eating out is just more expensive, no matter what the economy is doing, than eating in, eating your own food.

Speaker 1:

So think about it. Where in your life are you making the easy decisions now that are making your life harder? Think about it in the past. Where in the past have you made the easy decisions in the moment that have made your life, your present circumstances, harder? The same is true in reverse. Where have you made a hard decision but in the end it's made your life easier now, and where can you make a hard decision to make your life easier in the future? A great example of this in relationships is like setting boundaries. We talk about that a lot here and it's hard to have an uncomfortable conversation now. When it helps your relationship later, it's easier to not say anything. If somebody is hurting you and offending you and bottling it up. It's easier to do that in the moment than it is to have an uncomfortable conversation, but what does that do? You build up resentment and eventually you explode into new roads of relationship and then you don't have it anymore. Make your life harder. This applies everywhere, so I really just wanted to come in here today to get you to thinking about that.

Speaker 1:

If you're listening to this in real time, or closing the end of 2023, this is a big time to reflect on the last 12 months, the last quarter or the last six months, the last 30 days, whatever it is, and whenever you're listening to this, this is your moment and your challenge to just reflect on the last 30 days. Where in the last 30 days have you been making not easier decisions than the moment that are making your life harder? And I want you to identify one place, just one, and don't start with the biggest. We don't eat the elephant all at once. We eat it bite by bite. So we need to think about the next 30 days.

Speaker 1:

Where is the decision that you can make that's harder in the moment that's gonna make your life easier on the end? Where can you do it? Don't start with the hardest, most difficult thing to have. Start with an easier hard decision. Build up some confidence. Get some proof to yourself that you can make a hard decision and survive. Your brain needs that. It's very primal. It likes the known. It wants to know what's gonna be okay. So where can you do that? No matter when you're listening to this, where in your life can you really look at it and think, hmm, if I'm honest with myself, it's time to make some harder decisions and then do the thing. Because it's one thing to not have the awareness and not be doing it. It's another thing when you have the awareness and you realize there's areas in your life that you need to be making harder decisions and you choose not to. And I know that's hitting home, I know it is. So remember easy decisions now can make your life harder later. Harder decisions now can make your life easier later. Do you want your hard now, in the moment, or do you want to deal with your hard later? That's really what it comes down to Now.

Speaker 1:

I know I came in with the tough lift today and the big Enneagrammy energy and sometimes it's needed. You need this little pep top. You need a little fire lit under your booty to really think about it, because you only get one shot here, and I care about too much to let you not live your full potential and to not be making harder decisions now so your life is easier later. I care about you too much for that, but I also care about you too much to let you go without reminding you that, no matter what you are worthy, you have value. You get to take up space in this world simply because you exist. Don't let anyone, including yourself, convince you otherwise, and if that idea or vision for your life is in you, it is for you. I'm rooting for you and I can't wait to talk to you soon. One more thing I know I always end up in so much with that, but remember, we're unapologetically being ourselves here and I forgot.

Speaker 1:
