Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to the Cameo Show. I'm your host, cameo, and today I'm coming to you from my own vehicle. Why, you ask? Well, because I showed up two hours early to a physical therapy appointment and didn't want to drive home and come back and didn't want to cancel the appointment. Actually, I did and my husband, greg, was like don't cancel the appointment, you need the therapy, be agile. And I thought, well, what a great premise for a podcast episode how to be more agile and why agility is important in our life. So here I sit, recording a podcast episode from the car, trying to make the best use of my time in a situation where something changed.

Speaker 1:

Change is constant. Right, we are constantly battling change change of schedules, change of responsibilities in our job, change of attitudes in our children. Right, change is constant. And how we adapt to change and how quickly we can pivot when change is thrust upon us especially will indicate how resilient we are in our life. It will make our life more fulfilled. It's really all about seizing opportunities. On a personal level, it's about being flexible.

Speaker 1:

Today, like I mentioned, I didn't want to sit for two hours. I actually walked into the appointment thinking I was late. I rolled in at 10.05, thinking my appointment started at 10. Thinking I was late, I rolled in at 10.05, thinking my appointment started at 10 and, lo and behold, I was, like I said, two hours early. So on a personal level, it's about being flexible and saying what can I do to make the most of this situation? What opportunity lies in this challenge? And then it's about being creative with your problem solving. I went through a list of things I could do. I could just sit inside, listen to music, scroll on my phone. I could leave and skip my appointment. I could think about any errands I had to run and go out and do something, in between which, unfortunately, with where I am, I didn't really have any. And so I was kind of choosing, like I'll just skip the appointment and go home until, like I said, I called Greg and he's like use your time wisely. So there were all of these options, and creative problem solving led me to sitting in my car recording this podcast for you.

Speaker 1:

So I would like for you to pause and kind of reflect on situations where a change has been thrust at you or an unexpected scenario has popped up. How have you handled it? Do you throw in the towel? Do you phone a friend, do you come up with ideas for how you can use your time wisely. Time is undefeated. My friend and mentor, jesse itzler, always says that time is undefeated, so I'm never going to get this time back. How can I make the most of it? What can I do with the situation that I have? To make sure that I will look back and be like that wasn't wasted time. It was productive. Productive also, just to note, can be resting. It can be something that isn't classified as moving the needle, but in my, my case, in this situation, productive is recording this, but just being able to look back and say, okay, I feel really good about how I spent that time that I'm never getting back, even when I wasn't anticipating having that time or even when it could have easily been wasted. So ask yourself that question and really dig into that so that, as you encounter situations that you weren't expecting, you're more prepared to know how you're going to handle it.

Speaker 1:

On a professional level, staying agile allows you to stay relevant. Things change quickly, especially in business. There are so many unforeseen challenges. There are crises. Is that the right way to say that? Criseses Crises that pop up out of nowhere. The market changes. So, for example, greg and I own a mortgage company. Two years ago we could barely keep our head above water because rates were in the two and three percent and people were like banging on the door, needing to refinance or buying homes. As many of you know Now. Look around to refinance or buying homes as many of you know Now. Look around. Nobody's beaten on the door for a 7% interest rate. Home values are high, people are in a spot where they can't necessarily move forward with making a purchase and refinancing doesn't make a whole lot of sense. So we have to be agile in our approach to our business. What are ways that we can support our real estate community? What are ways that we can support our current customer base and stay connected? Being agile means being able to say okay, here are the circumstances, the landscape has changed, what do I need to do to adjust to that?

Speaker 1:

I think it's also important to mention how being agile contributes to society. When you're able to adapt and adjust to the circumstances that are presented to you right in the moment because you've practiced, because you've become familiar with yourself and knowing how to handle situations that may be springing up out of nowhere, it contributes to a really dynamic society. You become a leader in that moment. Greg was a leader in that moment. Greg was a leader for me today and in our own little orb of our own little brawn society. That was really helpful.

Speaker 1:

Who you surround yourself with and their mindset is just as important as well. It allows for innovative ideas. It allows for people to be curious and really put their heads together and become a team to say how can we face this challenge? You see that when you do actually see on a very large scope some type of national emergency, any challenge that comes up can be faced with teamwork, and it inspires people to work together and be open to new ways of doing things. Change is all around us. It ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 1:

We talk about it a lot on this show about how to be open to embracing change, how to pivot, why pivoting is so important, how the most successful people have adopted that as a very important part of who they are and really worked on honing that skill. That's what this is all about. So, as we close down, I want you to think back again. What does having an agile mindset mean to you and how can you cultivate that more in your daily life. What impact will it have on relieving your stress, on helping you lead a more fulfilling life, on navigating challenges more effectively and seizing new opportunities?

Speaker 1:
