Speaker 1:

Hi there and welcome to Proverbs 31-1b, where we discuss Biblical womanhood and are constantly busy and sometimes crazy daily life. I'm Alexis Hieslip and, as a wife and mom of two, I'm always striving and praying, but sometimes failing to be a Proverbs 31 woman of faith. Y'all, we are getting so close to the end of our Connecting the Dot series and we are really kicking things up today because we are talking about the amazing fulfillment of Jesus resurrecting from the dead. I am so excited. We have been building up to this moment for the past couple of weeks. There's a lot to talk about and I feel like this is a great topic as we are inching closer and closer towards Easter. So let's dive on in. There's a lot of scripture to cover. I'm so excited to go through this with you guys today. Let's dive on in, y'all. So, as you heard in the introduction, spoiler alert. The first point we're going to be talking about is that our Messiah would be raised from the dead, and I didn't realize just how many different passages in the Old Testament prophesies and allude to this about Messiah. I knew obviously in Isaiah 53, but there were a lot more and, like the book of Psalms, had a lot and it was really exciting to discover, so I hope you enjoy this too.

Speaker 1:

But the first passage in scripture that we're going to look at is the famous Isaiah 53, again that we read this in verse 10, if you'll turn with me to Isaiah 53, verse 10. We read this yet it please Adonai to bruise him. He caused him to suffer. If he makes his soul a guilt offering, he will see his offspring, he will prolong his days and the will of Adonai will succeed at his hand. Notice this part of the verse that says he will see his offering, he will prolong his days. This is an allusion to the fact that the Messiah suffered and died but will not stay in that state, and I talk more about that in my six week study on Isaiah 53. I'll have a link in the show notes if you want to take a look at that.

Speaker 1:

But there's also other passages to scripture to consider, and one that I had not thought of and didn't make this connection until I was in my study Bible doing my research is in 2 Samuel, in chapter 7. And in this passage is the Lord's promise that he gives to David. I highly suggest you take the time to read the whole section, chapter 7. It's about 30 verses. I'm not going to read the whole thing, but it's really, really interesting. If you want to do more of a deep dive on your own into Messianic prophecy, 2 Samuel, chapter 7, is the place to go, but I'm going to be focusing on verses 12 through 16, which tell us this Moreover, adonai declares to you that Adonai will make a house for you.

Speaker 1:

When your days are done and when you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up your seed, he's telling David. He will come forth after you and establish his kingdom. He will build a house for my name. And notice this. This is what is really the kicker. I will establish his royal throne forever. I will be a father to him and he will be a son to me. If he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and with the strokes from the sons of men. Yet my loving kindness will not be withdrawn from him, as I withdrew it from Saul, who I removed from before you. So your house and your kingship will be secure forever before you, just as your throne will be established forever.

Speaker 1:

Notice the words forever that are used. And it kind of made me chuckle when I read this passage, because my son loves the sandlot and it reminds me of the sandlot when one of the boys goes forever. And that's what really what God is saying like really emphasize the point of forever that when the Messiah comes and establishes his kingdom, it'll be forever. It is this eternal kingdom. So that's a fun way to connect that idea to your kids If you have kiddos that love baseball and the sandlot is to use that to. That's what God is telling us here in this passage is that when Messiah comes, it's not a temporary kingdom, it's a forever kingdom. I thought that was really cool.

Speaker 1:

Now there are other passages as well that we can look at, and the Psalms are just chocked full of this, and you know, david probably Was inspired in his Psalms from this message from Adonai and he was constantly reminding himself of this prophetic message. So the first place I want us to look at is Psalm, chapter 2, psalm 2. I'm flipping there myself and I just want to remind you guys that the version of the Bible, the Translation that I'm using, is the Tree of Life version, which is written by by Messianic Jews, and I really like it because it uses more of the Hebrew language in the scriptures and I think that having an understanding of a language, original language, is important, but you guys can use Whatever translation you prefer. I am just using the Tree of Life version because I've had so much fun and and enjoying it using it, using the Hebrew names for God. If you guys are interested, I can put a link in the show notes. If you're wanting to check out a Tree of Life version of the Bible, you can also find it for free in the Bible app. You can choose what translation to look at. So I'll send. I'll put a link in the show notes for that.

Speaker 1:

But let's turn to Psalm 2 and we're gonna look at verses 7 and 8, which tell us this I will declare the decree of Adonai. He said to me you are my son. Today I have become your father. Ask me and I will give the nations as your inheritance and the far reaches of the earth as your possession. So what we are hearing is that Adonai is going to be giving his son the nations as his full inheritance. So this forever Kingdom that we heard about in 2 Samuel, it's not just for one nation, it's for all the nations, which is a key component as Christians that we believe that salvation is not just for the Jew, but it's also for the Gentile, for the slave, for the free. It is for everyone, for ever, and we hear this echoed again in Psalm 16.

Speaker 1:

If you'll turn with me to Psalm 16 and I'm just giving you a couple, because I there was definitely a lot more, but I'm just focusing on the ones that really stood out to me Psalm 16 and now, depending on your translation, you could start at verse 9, but I'm pretty sure my translation starts at verse 8, so start at verse 8. I'm going to verse 11, which could be verse 12 in your translation. So Psalm 16 either verse 8 or 9, depending on your translation says this I have set Adonai always before me. Since he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. So my heart is glad and my soul rejoices. My body also rests securely, for you will not abandon my soul to shale, nor let your faithful one see the pit. You Make known to me the path of life, abundance of joy or, in your presence, eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Speaker 1:

So there's a couple of things here. One is that I Will set Adonai always before me. Adonai is always before us. He is always there with us, no matter what, he is eternal. And Another thing that notes is that he will never abandon us, he will never forsake us, he will never Let us be in the pit, and that is why Jesus cannot stay dead. He will never forsake us and is through his resurrection that he restores us and has this eternal presence at the right hand forever. And it's only through the resurrection that we can have this eternal presence. And I thought that's beautiful and this is just one of my favorite Psalms because it's so reassuring. And then, if you'll flip with me ahead to Psalm 132, we hear again this beautiful echoing of the promise that David heard from Adonai and we read this in verse 11. And, echoing of this thought, adonai has sworn to David a true promise he will not provoke From the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. If your children keep my covenant in my law that I will teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne forever, forever. So our king, that our messiah, our savior, is an eternal king who will reign forever, and not just for the Jewish people but for all of the nations. And we see this in all four of the gospels, in all four of the gospels, and I am going to take the time to read them all because we get snippets from each gospel writer, but when you read them all together you get the full extent of the joy of the resurrection of Messiah. And we are going to go in order. We're going to start with Matthew and Matthew 28. We read this Now, after Shabbat, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, miriam of Magdala, or Mary of Magdala, and the other Mary, miriam, came to look at the tomb and Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of Adonai Descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

Speaker 1:

His appearance was like lightning and His clothing as white as snow, and those keeping watch were shaken for fear of him and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women don't be afraid, for I know we are looking for Yeshua who was crucified. He is not here, he has risen. Just as he said, come to the place where he was lying, go quickly now and Tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead and Behold, he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him. See, I have told you they quickly left the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to bring the news to his disciples. So that is Matthews Store, a perspective of the resurrection.

Speaker 1:

Now we go to the book of Mark, mark 16, starting at verse one. Actually, we're gonna start, yeah, starting at verse one. When Shabbat was over, miriam of Magdala, miriam the mother of Jacob and Salome brought spices See, we're getting some different details so that they might come and anoint Yeshua's body. Very early on the first day of the week, when the Sun had risen, they came to the tomb. They were saying to each other who will roll away the stone for us? From the entrance of the tomb, looking up, they see the stone it was really huge had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were startled. But he said to them don't be alarmed, you're looking for Yeshua of Nazareth. He was crucified, he is risen. He's not here. See the place where they put him. But go tell his disciples and Peter, he's going before you to Galilee, there you will see him, just as he told you, and going outside they fled from the tomb, gripped by trembling amazement. They did not say anything to anybody, for they were afraid. So that's Matthew's account of the resurrection. Now let's look at Luke, luke 24, one through twelve. And we read this Now on the first day of the week, at daybreak, the women came to the tomb Carrying the spices that they had prepared.

Speaker 1:

They found the stone had been rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered they did not find the body of the Lord Yeshua. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men, dazzling and close, stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. But the men said why do you search for the living among the dead? He's not here but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in the Galilee, saying that the Son of man Must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be executed and on the third day rise up. And they were reminded of his words. And when they returned from the tomb, they told all these things to the eleven and to everyone else. Now it was Miriam from Magdala, joanna, the Miriam of Jacob, and others together with them who were telling these things to the emissaries. But these words appeared to them as nonsense and they would not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Leaning in, he sees only linen clothes as he went away to his home Marvelling at what had happened. Now we read John's account. If you'll turn with me To John, chapter 20, we will read this together. I am almost there. And now we read this Early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark.

Speaker 1:

Miriam from Magdala comes to the tomb. She sees that the stone is rolled away from the tomb, so she comes running to Simon, peter and the others, telling them and the other disciple, the one Yeshua loved. And she told them they've taken the master out of the tomb and we don't know where they put him. Then Peter and the other disciples set out, going to the tomb. The two were running together but the other disciple out ran Peter, and arrived at the tomb first, leaning in. He sees the linen strips lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Peter Comes, following him and entered the tomb. He looked upon the face of the linen strips lying there and the face cloth that had been on his head. It was not lying with the linen strips but was rolled up in a place by itself. So then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first, also entered. He saw and believed, for they did not yet understand from scripture that Yeshua must Rise from the dead. So the disciples went back to their own homes.

Speaker 1:

Each gospel account Says and shows that Jesus was not in the tomb, that he was raised from the dead and that the disciples at first did not fully understand this Account. They did not understand this at first. But what is so beautiful and shows how we grow in our faith over time and experience and prayer and through greater understanding, we see how Peter goes from this uncertainty to full belief. In the book of Acts we hear his sermon. We can read the sermon that Peter gives and it is beautiful and shows us his growth in his face. So if you turn with me to Acts 2, it is a long sermon so I'm only gonna be focusing on just a couple of the verses out of the sermon. I highly recommend, on your own time, taking it and reading the fullness of his sermon. But we're gonna be focusing on Versus 22 to 26 or 27, no 28, sorry, we're gonna be focusing on those Verses. So if you'll read with me, start at verse 22.

Speaker 1:

Men of Israel. Hear these words Yeshua Hanaz Rati. Yeshua of Nazareth, a man authenticated to you by God with mighty deeds and wonders and signs. God performed through him, in your midst, as you yourselves know, this Yeshua, given over by God's predetermined plan and foreknowledged. Nailed to the cross by the hand of a lawless man, you killed, but God raised him up, releasing him from the pains of death, since it was impossible for him to be held by it, for David said about him I saw Adonai always before me, for he is at my right hand, so I may not be shaken. Therefore, my heart was glad and my tongue Rejoiced. Moreover, my body will also live in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to Sheol or let your only one see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence.

Speaker 1:

So, as you can see, this Messiah's resurrection tells us, in verse 31, that he was not abandoned. David was not abandoned to Sheol and his body did not be K Because this Yeshua God raised up. He was raised up, and the apostles, we were all witnesses. So we know, we know that Adonai is with us forever, forever, and verse 36 tells us this. Therefore, let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made him, this Yeshua, whom you've crucified, both Lord and Messiah, because he is not dead. He is alive for ever, and we see this again throughout Paul's writings.

Speaker 1:

I just want to give us one example of this. In first Corinthians, chapter 15, we read this I Am almost there myself, the page was stuck and we're gonna read verses four through six, because it echoes Peter's thoughts, it echoes David's thoughts, it shows how Messiah was there all the way from Old to New Testament. So let's read it together, for I also passed on to you first of all, which I also received, that the Messiah died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day, according to the scriptures, and he appeared to Kafa Peter, then to the 12, then he appeared to over 500 brothers and sisters at one time. Most of them are still alive, though some have died. So this is this is just Reflecting on the fact that Jesus is alive, there's a victory in the resurrection and Paul is showing us that Messiah has been raised from the dead. And how could there be any doubt that he was raised from the dead with all of these witnesses? Messiah is raised. So that's the first major point.

Speaker 1:

And here is the second point is that he was raised from the dead and we hear that he's gonna be on this throne forever. But how is that? He has ascended to the right hand of God. That is how he reigns forever. Because he's ascended to the right hand of God. And again we see this throughout the book of Psalms, this idea. So I'm gonna read three passages in the Psalms.

Speaker 1:

So let's look first at Psalm 16, where we read this. In verse 11 we read you make known to me the path of life. Abundance of joys are in your presence, eternal pleasures at your right hand. And then again, this idea of being ascended and in Jesus being at the right hand of the father is seen in Psalms 69, verse 19 or 18, depending on the translation. Draw near to my soul and redeem it. Ransom me because of my foes. Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly. So Verse 20 also tells us you know my reproach, my shame and my disgrace. All of my adversaries are before you. This is just showing that, yes, jesus ascended to the right hand of a God and has this eternal throne. So he knows everything that we have gone through, that we will go through and that we are going through. And Then, if you'll turn, flip forward to Psalm 110.

Speaker 1:

We read this, a Psalm of David, add, and I declares to my Lord sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet, add, and I will extend your mighty rod from Zion Rule on the midst of your enemies. Your people will be a free will offering in the days of your power, and the Holy splendor from dawn's womb. Yours is the dew of your youth, add, and I has sworn and will not change his mind. You are a co-in, a priest, forever, according to the order of Malchis. A deck, my Lord is at your right hand. He will shatter Kings in the days of his wrath. He will judge among the nations, keeping up corpses. He will crush heads over entire lands. He will drink from a steam, a stream, along the way. So his head will be exalted.

Speaker 1:

We're gonna come back to this Psalm and it kind of flows into the next idea that Jesus is the ultimate high priest. But first let's talk about how Jesus was ascended and, as we talked about earlier, how Peter said that David was great. But Jesus is even greater than David and he is ascended to the right hand of the father. And Luke 20, verses 41 through 44 show us the importance and and the ascension and what it means. So if we'll turn to Luke 20, this is before the ascension, but Jesus gives us some clues about what is to come and what it means. So let's start at verse 41.

Speaker 1:

Then Yeshua said to them how can they say that Messiah is ben David? For David himself says in the book of Psalms Add a nice said to my Lord sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a foot, so to your feet. David then calls him Lord. So how is he his son? So a lot of people thought that Jesus was Like David, but below him. But this is Jesus saying no, I'm even above David, who was a great king, because I am going to ascend to be with the father and sit at his right hand. I am the father's son. I am not just of David, but I am the father's son. And In order for him to be, the father said he has to be ascended into Heaven.

Speaker 1:

And we read this in the ascension account in the book of Acts, acts chapter 1, starting at verse 9, we read Oops, almost there. We read this. After Saying all of this, while they were watching, he was taken up, while they were staring into the heavens. As he went up, suddenly two men Stood with them in white clothing. They said men of Galilee. Why do you keep standing here staring up in the heaven? This Yeshua, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go in to heaven. So Jesus is ascended. And then we hear kind of more about this.

Speaker 1:

When Stephen was trying to defend himself and preach the gospel message Before he was the first martyr of the faith after Jesus's resurrection. And Stephen says it really beautifully. If you'll turn, flip forward to Acts, chapter 7, starting at verse 55, we read this but Stephen, full of the spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Yeshua standing at the right hand of God. And he said a look, I See the heavens opened and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God. But they covered their ears and, crying out with a loud voice, they rushed at him with one impulse and they drove him out of the city and had him stoned. You see, this truth was shattering to people, people who were stubborn and stiff-necked and didn't want to believe. They did not want to believe that Messiah was at the right hand of the father, because that meant that they were wrong about Jesus. And they killed Steven. They stolen him to death. And it's not just Steven, he was willing to die for this truth.

Speaker 1:

11 Almost all of the apostles, all of the apostles, except for John, were martyred for their faith. They died for their faith. Thousands and thousands of Christians died for their faith in Ancient Rome and the Coliseum's. They died for their faith During the Muslim conquests. Many Christians died for their faith. There are Christians today, in recent times, whether it be in the Soviet Union times, during Nazi Germany, in Iran, where there's secret churches who are dying for their faith, because of their faith that Jesus rose from the dead and Is seated at the right hand of the father.

Speaker 1:

And we see in the book of Ephesians the importance of of standing for truth and being willing to sacrifice for the truth. Ephesians 4, 8 through 10. Therefore, it says when he went up on high, he led captive, a troop of captives and gave gifts to his people. Now, what does he went up mean, except that he first went down to the lower regions of the earth. The one who came down is the same one who went up far above all the heavens in order to fill all things. This is the truth that so many people have been willing to die for, and again, this is echoed in Hebrews chapter, hebrews 1 I'm just trying to flip there. Hebrews 1, 3 and 4 tell us this this is the son. This son is the radiance of his glory and the imprint of his being, upholding all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high. Thus, he became far above the angels, as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. This is the message of the gospel, this is the message of our redemption and this is the message of our Messiah King, who sits on the throne forever. And this is what many who have gone before us have been willing to die for. And that is why it is so important we know what the message of the gospel is, and we need to know what is to come that our Messiah has an eternal ascension into heaven and sits on this throne forever. And not only is he sitting on this throne forever, he is exercising this third point. He is exercising his priestly office in heaven forever, for all eternity, and I feel like I could do a whole separate episode on this, so I'm going to do my best to narrow it down.

Speaker 1:

There are three passages in scripture I want us to look at, and in the Old Testament to start. The first is the book of Zechariah, and Zechariah was an Old Testament prophet and I feel like I've said this before. We've been looking at Zechariah a lot with Messianic prophecy and I feel like we could do a whole study on Zechariah. But Zechariah 6. 13 tells us this he will build, he as in he's speaking of of the time to come, the branch who will branch out from his place and build the temple of Adonai. He will build the temple of Adonai, he will bear splendor and sit and rule on his throne. Thus he will be a cohen, a priest, on his throne. So a council of Shalom, a council of peace, will be between them both. So when Jesus rules, when Messiah rules on his throne as the high priest forever, there will be Shalom, there will be peace is what we are reading. And then again in 2 Samuel.

Speaker 1:

I feel like it's important we talk about it again In 2 Samuel 7, we already talked about it before, but we really need to emphasize this covenant that God made with David. We read this and that in verses 12 and 13,. Moreover, adonai declares to you that Adonai will make the house for you when your days are done and you sleep with your fathers. I will raise up your seed. He will come forth from you after you and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for my name and I will establish this royal throne forever.

Speaker 1:

Forever, and I know we just talked about it, but Psalm 110 is really a critical Psalm in this understanding. The Lord is a cohen forever. According to the order of Malchizedek, he is a priest forever, and I don't have the time to go into it right now, but you need to also look into the book of Leviticus, so you have a full understanding of what a high priest even did. What the high priest even did, it was a God appointed office. Aaron was the first high priest and they were the ones that would make the sacrifices to God in the temple, but Jesus is our ultimate high priest. He makes the ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross with his blood, and that's important to know. I highly suggest you look at the Torah, you study the Torah, you look at Leviticus in the light that Jesus is the ultimate high priest forever.

Speaker 1:

And the book of Hebrews in the New Testament really shines a light and helps us to understand this better. And it helps us to understand the book of Hebrews, because I know it can be confusing. I know that the Torah can be confusing because we are taught very well about Torah as Gentile Christians. It's not explained, in my opinion, very well, but that's why we are here together to learn and to grow in our faith together. And the book of Hebrews helps us to realize that Jesus is greater than the Levitical priests that we read about in the Torah. He is our ultimate high priest.

Speaker 1:

And this is a longer passage, but I feel like it's necessary to read Hebrews, chapter 6, starting at verse 20. Yeshua has entered there as a forerunner on our behalf, a forerunner on our behalf having become the coen gadol, the high priest forever, according to the order of Malki Zedek. Now, these next couple passages I still get confused about. Okay, so this is something I still pray about today, but listen to what Hebrews says in chapter 7. Hebrews, chapter 7, it is too important not to read. Too important not to read For this.

Speaker 1:

Malki Zedek was king of Salem, coen of God most high. He met Abraham, running from the defeat of the kings, and blessed him. This is back in Genesis, chapter 21, for context. And to him Abraham apportioned a tenth of everything. First, by the translation of his name, he is king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of shalom, of peace, without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like Ben Elohim, he remains a coen for all time.

Speaker 1:

Now see how great this man is. Even Abraham, the patriarch, gave him a tenth out of the plunder. Indeed, those sons of Levi he received the priesthood have, according to Torah, a command to collect a tithe from the people, that is, from their kin, although they have come out of the loins of Abraham. But this one, who did not have their genealogy, has collected tithes from Abraham and has blessed him, the one holding the promises. Now, it is beyond dispute that the lesser is blessed by the greater. In one case, dying men receive tithes, but in the other one, about whom it is testified that he lives on Through Abraham, even Levi, the one receiving tithes, has paid the tithe, so to speak, for he was still in his father's loin when Melchizedek met him.

Speaker 1:

Now, if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood for based on it the people have been given the Torah what further need was there for a different coen to arise, designated according to the order of Melchizedek, not according to the order of Aaron? For whenever the priesthood is altered out of necessity and alteration of law also takes place, for the one about whom these things are said belongs to another tribe from which no one has officiated at the altar, it is clear that our Lord has sprung forth from Judah. Concerning this tri-Moses said nothing about priesthood, and it's even more evident if another priest arise, like Melchizedek, one made not by virtue of Torah requirement of physical descent, but by virtue of the power of the indestructible life. For it testified you are a coen forever according to the order of Melchizedek. For, on the one hand, a former requirement is set aside because of its weaknesses and ineffectiveness. For Torah may nothing perfect, but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced through which we draw near to God". I love that verse, verse 19,. Moreover, it was not without a sworn oath. Others, indeed, have become priests without a sworn oath, but he, with an oath sworn by the one who said to him Adonai, has sworn and will not change his mind. You are a Cohen forever. How much more, then, has Yeshua become the guarantee of a better covenant Now, on the one hand, many have become priests or Cohenim who, throughout death, are prevented from continuing office, but, on the other hand, the one who does not remain forever has a permanent priesthood.

Speaker 1:

Therefore, he is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through him always living to make intercession for them. For such a Cohen, gadol was fitting for us a high priest, holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens. He has no need to offer up sacrifices day by day, like the other high priests, first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people, for when he offered up himself, he did this once for all, for the Torah appoints as the high priest men who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Torah appoints a son who is made perfect forever. He is made perfect forever. Jesus is made perfect forever. He is greater than Abraham. He is greater than the high priest, he is greater than David, because he is perfect. Only Jesus is perfect, and so only Jesus, who was ascended, who rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, only he can be a high priest forever in this eternal kingdom, forever. According to the order of Malchisa deck, he is our only perfect priest, our only perfect priest who reigns forever, forever. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that just mind blowing? Doesn't that just give you chills? Because it certainly gives me chills, and nothing can separate us from his love. All we have to do is ask and he will rule. He will rule whether we ask him to or not, but when we turn to him, he is our ultimate savior and we can rest in that love.
