Linda Sivertsen: From College Dropout to NYT Best Selling Author and Book Mama, Inspiring Writers to Follow Their Muse and Put Their Work Out Into the World

We talk a lot on the podcast about listening to those subtle whispers that call to us to step into unfamiliar territory and see what’s on the other side. For some, these whispers come out of nowhere leading them to make sweeping changes. For others like Linda Sivertsen, they may have been there since childhood, increasing in volume as they grow closer and closer to their destiny. This week on Journeys Through Change, my guest Linda Sivertsen shares how she went from being a college dropout to a NYT best selling author and “book mama”, inspiring writers to follow their muse and put their work out into the world.

Linda Sivertsen, “Book Mama,” is in LOVE with books—reading, writing, and selling them. Her titles have won many awards and hit all the lists as an author, co-author, and former magazine editor and ghostwriter. But her driving force has been to publish sustainably. Naïve and optimistic enough to believe in magic, she’s on a mission to save forests via her role as a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Ambassador. When she’s not fostering literary love matches on her Beautiful Writers Podcast (a favorite stop for writers on tour), writing, and promoting Beautiful Writers, or midwifing books at her Carmel or virtual writing retreats, Linda can be found on the back of a horse or running with her dogs.

In this episode, Linda and I discuss:

  • Linda’s journey from dropping out of college, working as a dog walker to the celebs, to finding the inspiration for writing in a series of dreams that led to her career today.
  • The incredible healing power of writing that allows people to overcome self-doubt and lead to unexpected self-discovery.
  • Her books, group work, retreats and the podcast were all created with the intention to build community and spotlight incredible writers, both new and seasoned in their craft.
  • Encouragement for writers looking to get started but need the motivation to take that next step.

Change is inevitable. That’s why I designed the Day by Daybook®, a guided journal to help you face the discomfort of those shifts in life that are pushing you to that next level of growth and learning. Get your Day by Daybook® here.
