Deepak Chopra says that "Success in life could be defined as the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realisation of worthy goals."
That comes from his hugely best selling book, "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success." Today, I'm going to start a series of maybe, oh, I don't know, seven parts, where I look at each of the seven laws, and Deepak Chopra, his book, "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success." Today, it's the first law, which he calls the law of pure potentiality.
Hi, I'm Thor Challgren. Welcome to every day a new thought. Deepak Chopra says of the seven laws, the number one is the law of pure potentiality is what he calls it. It's the field of all possibilities and infinite creativity. There are other names for it, maybe you've heard the quantum field, the universe, God consciousness, however you want to define it. It is possibilities, it's joy, it's pure knowledge, bliss, simplicity, balance, invincibility. That all sounds pretty good, right? Who wouldn't want that?
The key thing in this law, as Chopra describes it is that there is no separation between you and this field of pure potentiality. In theory, but there's a problem that as he described it, which is that we live in an object referral way, that's what he calls it. And basically, what he's talking about is, we take our cue and life from things around us from situations, circumstances, objects, people, things. And a lot of this is based on the ego and it's fear based. And it's also temporary, meaning it only lasts as long as those circumstances last. So that's how many of us live.
The opposite of this, as Chopra describes is self referral living, meaning, knowing who you are coming from that place of your inner knowing your inner consciousness, where you get to experience, your true being and that self power that comes from living from who you are. So if self referral is true power, knowing who you are, and that's having true and permanent power. How do we access that?
Well, according to Deepak Chopra, there are three ways that you access this law of pure potentiality. The first is silence. He describes a process of just withdrawing from for a time, from everything around you, it might be a minute, 10 minutes an hour a day, he describes this process of putting yourself in silence so that you're not thinking about things, you're not accessing stuff outside of you, you're just still and available for that consciousness of the universe to be able to settle in with you.
The second way that he says that you can access the law of pure potentiality is to go into silence, where you meditate for a certain amount of time now, Deepak Chopra, he's a big meditator. So he says, Well, you could meditate for 30 minutes a day, twice a day. For a lot of people, that may be a lot. So start with what you can, whether it's five minutes, 10 minutes, simply close your mind down and allow yourself to think whatever you want, and allow those thoughts to come and go. One of the best ways that I've ever heard of with, with the thoughts that go through your head is just think of them as clouds that a cloud comes in, you see it, you recognize it for what it is, and then you let it go. Just let it move on. So that's the second way meditate. First was silence. Second way, meditate.
The third way that Deepak Chopra says that we can access the law of pure potentiality is to practice non judgement, stop analyzing things, stop judging them, stop putting labels on them. As he describes it, this can create a sense of a turbulent mind where there's all these thoughts going on there label thoughts, judgment, thoughts, analyzing thoughts, and he says, what this does is it it constricts the energy between you who you are and that pure potentiality you're basically like squeezing that gap, you're cutting off your connection to infinite creativity. So the way that you stop that is stopping the judgment, stopping the analyzing, stopping the labeling.
So once you do all of these, which is silence, meditation, and practicing non judgement, then he suggests adding in nature, spend regular time communing with nature, whether it's being in a park, going for a walk, being in the forest or anywhere where you get to experience that quiet of nature. An easy way to start with this is simply go into a park for 10 minutes, sit down, close your eyes. Allow the thoughts around you to just sort of have like a cloud move away, be in silence. Be with nature. Just be still.
I'll close this episode with this quote from Deepak Chopra. "Wherever you go in the midst of movement, and activity, carry your stillness with you."
