Have you ever felt the profound peace that comes with a renewed sense of hope? This Easter Sunday, we're not just celebrating a holiday; we're embracing the transformative power of the Resurrection. I'm Reverend Charles Ervin, and as we gather today, let us weave together prayer and reflection to find tranquility in our hearts and in the world around us. In our first chapter, we unite in the Lord's Prayer and delve into the scripture from John 20, where an empty tomb and encounters with the risen Christ renew our understanding of peace and the perpetual embrace of the Holy Spirit.

Then, prepare to lift your spirits with our 'Spirit in the Sky' reflection, where we ponder the soul's voyage to the celestial realm and the assurance of eternal life. As we discuss the enduring promise of redemption and the infinite reign of God, the harmonious lyrics of faith promise us a place in the heavenly choir. Whether you're seeking solace or a connection with the divine through melody, this episode is a testament to the unwavering belief in our friend Jesus and the eternal joy awaiting us beyond this life.

And hello and welcome to another episode of the City of Churches podcast. I'm your host, reverend Charles Irving. I'm your host, reverend Charles Irvin. Today is Easter Sunday, or the Resurrection Sunday. He is alive.

Speaker 3:

Now for open prayer. Dear Lord, may my words help somebody to find your love. You can fill their hearts with love. And may my power of words wake someone up from a bad dream they're living right now. Right now, we need your love right now in this world, because this world needs your love and your support right now. If we don't stop these wars, I'm afraid that you might be going to another world war in your name, in your name, we pray to stop these wars so we don't go into another world war. Amen, amen. Now for our Lord's Prayer. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and give us our trespasses, and give those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Now for our scriptures of the day. It comes from John 20, the empty tomb.

Speaker 4:

John, chapter 20. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple the one Jesus loved and said they have taken the Lord out of the tomb. We don't know where they have put him. So Peter and the other disciples started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first he bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally, the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went inside. He saw and believed. They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

Speaker 4:

Now Mary stood outside the tomb, crying as she wept. She bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white seated where Jesus' body had been one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her Woman, why are you crying? They have taken my Lord away, she said, and I don't know where they have put him At this. She turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus. It was Jesus, he asked her Woman. Why are you crying? Who is it you're looking for? Thinking he was the gardener? She said, sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him and I will get him. Jesus said to her Mary. She turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic, rabboni, which means teacher. Jesus said Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news I have seen the Lord, and she told them that he had said these things to her.

Speaker 4:

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, jesus came and stood among them and said Peace, be with you. After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord and again Jesus said Peace, be with you, as the Father has sent me, I am sending you. And with that he breathed on them and said Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

Speaker 4:

Now Thomas, also known as Didymus, one of the twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him we have seen the Lord. But he said to them Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. Were and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.

Speaker 4:

A week later his disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them, though the doors were locked. Jesus came and stood among them and said Peace, be with you. Then he said to Thomas Put your finger here, see my hands. Put your finger here, see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. Thomas said to him my Lord and my God. Then Jesus told him Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book, but these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Speaker 3:

John, chapter 21. That was the Gospel of John, the epitome of the Spirit of God. Peace be with you, my brothers. So Jesus said to his disciples as he was risen from the dead. The tomb is being, but Jesus wants to fill your heart.

Speaker 3:

Maybe you don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah, but he was and that Some of the Not being, some of the stuff has not been recorded in the Gospels, but the examples was there there and John believed. Mark, luke, tyrus, julia, all believed. So they were sent out, set out to tell him that Jesus loves you and he will forgive you your sins. And that evening, after he met his disciples, there was a crowd in the city of David. He sold himself to judge us, left in holy praise. He is the Messiah, they said.

Speaker 3:

But the high priests still don't believe, and they still don't believe today that Jesus was still the Messiah. But they will believe when he comes back to show us his love. He is coming back someday for us. That we're never known until we hear the trumpets in ease. Every morning I get up and listen for the trumpets. I don't hear them, I see the sun. If I don't hear them, I see the sun. I know it's another day to praise Him, to love Him and to glorify Him. As you speak of these words, I hope they will fill your heart. Amen. And now for the resurrection hymns. Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 5:

Not a word was heard At the be that. Jesus breathed his last.

Speaker 2:

Could it be that his father had forsaken him? Turned his back on his son, despising our sin.

Speaker 6:

All hell seemed to whisper. Just forget it, he's dead.

Speaker 2:

And the father looked down to his son and said and say Arise my love, Arise my love.

Speaker 5:

The grave no longer has a hold on you. No more density, no more suffering. Arise, arise, my love.

Speaker 2:

The earth trembled and the tomb began to shake and, like lightning from heaven, the stones rolled away.

Speaker 6:

And as dead men are gone, they all stood there in fright as the power of love Displayed its might.

Speaker 5:

So let the old man Feel the air, what he needs. The words of creation have been long to hear Love and peace, the gift of victory. So love and clear. Arise my love. Arise my love. The grave of the world has a world on you. The more death's sting, the more suffering Arise.

Speaker 1:

Say where are the circles?

Speaker 5:

Say where is your sting? Who has been defeated? The grave could not hold the king. Arise my love. Arise my love. The grave no longer has no home.

Speaker 2:

No more is it to sing For your sin, for suffering. Arise, arise, arise. I heard a story of great love. It was a gift from God above A man to come and save the world. He came to us with humble birth. He walked with us to show our worth. He is the one who calls out Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Speaker 5:

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

Hallelujah this man. He came and talked of life. He said he was the nation's light.

Speaker 2:

With one main goal to fight for us. He balked at the way that things were done.

Speaker 1:

Satan's minions were on the run. He challenged all to overcome. Hallelujah.

Speaker 2:

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.

Speaker 5:

Hallelujah, hallelujah, alleluia.

Speaker 2:

Alleluia, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. They beat him down and they hung him high. He died, so we could live there by. There he lay in a dark old tomb Three days later, he rose again, conquered death and canceled our sin.

Speaker 3:

For us, he paid the ultimate price, hallelujah no-transcript before I play the last two hands, I'd like to go in peace. Make this world a better place and a peaceful place. Amen and.

Speaker 6:
