After a weekend of riding or racing when a rider becomes tired and slows down, I hear “I need to get in shape”. This can certainly be part of the problem, however, frequently the reasons associated with slowing down is associated with putting the body into a precarious situation: survive or perform. During this podcast, we outline the difficult scenarios put on the body when you ask it to go fast and/or for long duration of time.
Topics include: the body striving to survive in hot, humid, or high intensity conditions while still performing optimally; how to consume calories when your heart rate is elevated without feeling sick to your stomach; keeping up with the calorie, electrolyte and fluid demands as you become leaner, stronger and faster to mention a few.
