Open Comments – Episode 7: The Importance of Standardization in Drug Testing with Neil Parkin
Neil T. Parkin, Ph.D., is a scientific consultant with extensive experience in viral drug resistance and laboratory diagnostics, especially for HIV-1 and hepatitis C virus. In November 2009, he founded Data First Consulting, Inc., based in Sebastopol, CA. Data First Consulting provides scientific consulting services to clients in industry and public health organizations, including technical writing (publications, grants and technical reports), sequence analysis, drug resistance data analysis and interpretation, laboratory quality assurance guidance, project management, meeting organization, and strategic advice.
From July 2008 to October 2009, Dr. Parkin worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, in the HIV/AIDS department as part of the HIV Drug Resistance team assisting laboratories around the world to perform high quality resistance testing for public health monitoring purposes. Dr. Parkin received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry from McGill University in Montréal, Canada. He completed his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Harold Varmus at the University of California, San Francisco.
