One Mission

Guest Name: Pamela Esty

Pamela's first introduction to yoga was in the 1970's through a lovely phys-ed teacher who offered a class for "girls who really disliked gym class"! She took what she had learned home to her numerous siblings who patiently practiced with her. She came to classes later in life after having been led to practice by her oldest child who was then practicing in NY. Her first teacher was the Kripalu and Ashtanga teacher Gail Cannon of Earthsong Yoga in Marlborough, MA. Her practice continued under Shawn Shaw of Metrowest Yoga in Worcester and Westboro. She became interested in assisting and completed training with Ray Mucci. She later completed her 200 RYT at Metrowest Yoga under Shawn Shaw, Anne Toupizis, Ray Mucci and Cindy Boulter. She then followed up with yer 500RYT at Sacred Seeds Yoga Shala led by Jacqui Bonwell with co-teachers, David Vendetti (South Boston Yoga), Sagel Urlacher, and Johnny Gillespie (Balanced Athlete).

Her safe, creative and inclusive classes include Slow flow and Flow Vinyasa, Heart of Yoga, and One-on-one classes. Pamela has also worked with at risk teens and elementary school children through Ivy Child International.

Her workshops include Mandala and Movement, Creativity and Yoga, Beyond Asana, Chanting Basics, Mythology and Movement, Finding your True Core(s) With Props, and Peak Pose Deconstruction.

She is a perpetual student and is forever grateful to the teachers and mentors mentioned above as well as; David Williams, David Swenson, Nancy Gilgoff, Beryl Bender Birch, Theresa Murphy, Shiva Rea, David Nichtern and Lama Tsultrim Allione.

In this episode:

  • Ashley and Pam talk about how yoga is like "coming home to your soul"
  • How our bodies store energy, and the effects that has on the body
  • The repercussions of letting trauma go, rather than healing it and re-traumatization
  • The importance of picking a good yoga teacher when you’re dealing with trauma
  • Different types of yoga, and how yoga can be more than just "movement"
  • Meditation: it's connection to the mind, body, and soul, and the life changing benefits of meditating

  • Hear about mantras and follow along with some mudras from Pam
  • Savasana pose for letting go at the end of a practice

Cancer can steal a kid’s childhood – we help them get it back through
programs and activities that foster friendship, fun, and positive
distractions from treatment. Whether it’s putting on holiday
celebrations, providing art and music therapy or paying for expensive
hospital parking, we make life brighter for children and their families
from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.
