•
Movement Disorders Foundation of Arizona
Presented by our main speaker, Jeffrey H. Kordower, Ph.D
This lecture discusses the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease, meaning how and why the pathology occurs.
We also went into great details regarding the cell and gene therapies presently being employed in subjects with PD as well as new strategies that are close to entering the clinical pipeline. With regards to the former, both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells are currently being tested for the safety and tolerability of this approach and efficacy trials are being planned following these safety trials assuming they are successful. With regards to gene therapies, both symptomatic and disease modifying trials was discussed.
