This past Wednesday was Valentines Day. It was also Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent. And it was for people in Kansas City the Super Bowl Victory Parade. A day of joy and celebration quickly turned to one of horror as gun shots rang out as the ceremonies concluded. KC STRONG merchandise has come out. There have been pictures taken of KC STRONG spelled out in folding chairs around Union Station which the police had made. I am tired of communities having to be strong.
I wonder if for Lent this year we could give up something that made a bigger difference? Can we give up our obsession with guns? Can with give up electing people who work for the lobbyists and not for the people? Can we give up having to be strong because we are working toward being more loving toward ourselves and others?
