Just like new plants sprout in the cracks of the sidewalk, faith can grow and develop in the cracks of our lives. Whether the cracks are cracks of time in our daily schedule or cracks in our lives from changes, pressure, or life in general, when we allow God's word to seep into the cracks, new things can blossom.

It has been a busy 6 weeks on my calendar. Lots of traveling and lots of emotionally charged moments. All of it has been meaningful, yet, I am weary. Physically tired from travel. Mentally tired from the thought that has gone into things. Emotionally tired from all the human interactions and emotional highs and lows. Spiritually tired because 2 celebrations of life, a wedding, and Holy Week take a lot of spiritual bandwidth. So I will spend time in the coming days to tend to my weariness. What do you do when you are weary and need rest?
Welcome to season two of Faith in the Cracks. I'm Pastor Karen Wright. We all have cracks in our lives. It's part of being human. God can enter into those cracks and help us grow and transform. And the light of Christ can shine out through those same cracks into the world around us. Just like a plant that grows in the crack in the pavement, God can work within us and new life can sprout. Episode 14. Weariness. Over the past six weeks, I have traveled quite a bit. I have been up and down the highway. I have been in an airplane, and all of them have been meaningful trips. A 50th anniversary of the school where I taught, two celebrations of life that were very different, but yet very much honoring those people. Celebrating a wedding of two students I taught long, long ago and getting to officiate their wedding. These have all been meaningful trips. And in the midst of that, we had Holy Week and Easter, which is meaningful in and of itself. But I'm weary. And some of it is physical because traveling is tiring. And getting in late, I had one night my flight, didn't get in until later than expected, and I didn't get home until like three in the morning. And then I was at church the next day. And this last weekend I got in about 11:30 and was at church to preach the next day. So trips that are well worth the effort, but I'm tired. And some of it sleep will fix. Some of it a good nap is helpful. But there's also an emotional weariness. An emotional of the highs and the lows and all the in-betweens. There's an emotional weariness that goes with seeing so many friends that I've known for years, seeing so many wonderful people who have I've crossed paths with. And sometimes the circumstances weren't necessarily what we wanted them to be, but getting to spend time with people. And there's a weariness there as you pour out, and even though you are being poured into by others, there's a weariness that comes with all of that interaction. And I think in some ways there's a spiritual weariness, just because it's been a lot. Two celebrations of life, a wedding and holy week, have been a lot of spiritual energy. And it's all good, but I'm weary. And so I plan to take some time to just sit and wonder, to sit and watch nature, to sit and ponder the things that are coming next. To sit and just be able to be. There's been a lot of doing. And it's time for a little bit more being. And so I wonder if any of you have had that experience of just being weary. And I think sometimes we do it because we get so caught up in everything that's going on, even though things may be incredible experiences and opportunities. They may be wonderful and filled with people we love and who love us, but we can still be weary. So I ask you this week, as you go through your week, take a look at where energy comes in and where energy flows out. Look at those places where you may need to conserve a little energy, that you may need a recharge. And how do you do that? Do you recharge by working out or digging in a garden or taking a walk in nature or sitting with loved ones? How do you recharge? How do you fill yourself back up so that you when you get weary, because we all will get weary, that you remember that you need to be filled and that you need to rest. And how do you allow yourself that space and time to do that? Until next week. Thanks for listening. New podcasts are released every Monday.
