Trauma bonding vs. bonding over shared trauma - trust when we say that both scenarios can and do happen in the workplace. Trauma bonding often occurs in situations where there is an imbalance of power and can manifest in various ways, such as undermining and belittling comments, eroding someone's self-esteem and creating a reliance on the abuser for validation. If this is your reality... PLEASE run far far away from that narcissist!!! On the other hand, bonding over shared trauma/challenges/difficult times is where it's at - these soul-saving bonds can lead to greater employee happiness, productivity and retention. So why wouldn't we all get a work bestie then?
