You know how some connections can bring you to tears? You feel grateful that you’ve met this person and absolutely adore the conversations you have with them…Gaby is one of those people.

As soon as I started editing this episode., I felt warm and comfortable…hearing her voice again was so uplifting. So, fun fact for you…my mum listens to alllllll my podcast episodes…and quite often bugs me to find out when the next one is coming out as she listens to them on her 6 mile walks (my dad and her walk together but listen separately, which turns out to be pretty funny when one is 2 mins ahead….’Rick, what are you laughing about?? Salma, just wait for 2 minutes!’). As I recorded a few episodes in April/May but then took a break over summer, we had a quiet phase…and to keep my mother happy, I sent her the unedited version of Gaby’s episode…let’s just say that my mum now adores Gaby, wants to meet her, and have dinner...I feel I’m being replaced!

Gabriela Encina is one of those rare people who just make you feel safe. Unjudged, listened to, and fully accepted exactly as you are. It may not surprise you to hear that she is a licensed psychologist with a MSc in Psychology and over 20 years of experience.
She provides online counselling to female expats and globally mobile clients and has been doing since 2018, supporting more that 400 people living abroad cope with the challenges that international life can bring.

Gaby is an expat herself – born in Chile...she moved to Austria and became an Austrian citizen, and in the past year has moved to Spain – she is literally living the life that she so brilliantly helps others with and can carry out these online sessions in Spanish, English, or German!

As you move through this episode, you will hear how Gaby came to live a life that went ‘against the flow’, and how travel has always played a huge part in her life (can anyone else remember the days of couch surfing?!). She opens up about the leaps of faith she took in finding a job that matched her values and passion, even though it was conducted in a different language to what she spoke! But Gaby’s moto in life is ‘I’ve got to try’ and even though this has led to some ‘roller-coastery’ moments (not in the dictionary but if it was, it would read – ‘bumps in the journey that have high highs and low lows and make you feel like you are losing your stomach and everything in it each time), she has persevered and I am so glad that she did – Gaby is honestly a truly fantastic lady and I loved our talks!

This episode felt like a masterclass in human psychology…a couple of Gaby’s top tips are below:

-          Know your stressors – take time and give yourself room to identify what they are

-          Don’t compare yourself to others

-          Set boundaries – when you say no, stick with it – start small and see how it feels

-          Being selfish is self-care 101

-          We control who we are and the effort we put in

I could write for hours about this episode…and I’d love to tell you all about the healthy dose of sarcasm that hits us around minute 30:30…but I’m sure you can pop in and listen to it yourself 😉
