Speaker 2:

Hey, hey, hey. You are now tuned in to the it's the Human Experience podcast. I'm your host, hazel Brown. We're coming in hot, hot, hot. Well, I'm in Vegas, so of course we're coming in hot, especially these summer months, right? Y'all know it's a little chilly here during the later months of the year, but right now, mid year, it is definitely coming in hot.

Speaker 2:

And when I think about things coming in hot, I'm not just talking about the temperature, right, I'm also talking about the stress levels that come with that mid-year realization that we got half the year gone, right? What have we done? Have we done all the things to where the opportunities have been coming in, rolling in better than we expected for it to? And that's coming with a little extra stress, right, because maybe I need more people, need more resources, need more time. Whatever the case may be for you. Pick up what you need, leave what you don't. Or you may be on the other end of things like, oh my God, I thought I'd be further along the road at this point in the year, at this point in my life, whatever that looks like for you, and it comes with that mid-year muck. It comes with that. What am I supposed to be doing? Am I still in line with what I thought I should be doing? Do I even want to do that anymore? Where are we with all of the things?

Speaker 2:

I wanted to do a pulse check with you guys. I wanted you to do a pulse check with yourself. Pulse check with you guys. I wanted you to do a pulse check with yourself because, listen, stress can impact your physical, spiritual, emotional and mental health and it is so important that we really spend the time to decide and distinguish, make a decision in how we want to continue moving in our approach as it relates to our everyday life, like this, your life. Listen, I need you to take some time and make sure that you're keeping a pulse check on you, because your spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health is so important for you to make sure that you're truly tapping into you and taking the time that you need to show up for you through, like short walks, creating structure.

Speaker 2:

Let's stop for a second. That structure, that structure, is nothing to play with. I know for me, when I don't have a to-do list and I don't have any organization to what it is I'm trying to do, my brain is like what are we supposed to be doing. All right, let's do this. Oh, oh, my god, I don't know if I want to do that like there's no structure, there's no plan, there's no organization, there is no rhyme or reason for what we're doing. You, you don't even know what you're doing.

Speaker 2:

So it's very important that you make sure you create some kind of structure to where you know that in this season, in this week, in this day, in this month, whatever that looks like for you, I am working on my mental health, I am working on my physical health, I'm working on my emotional health, my financial health, I'm working on my whatever you're working on. And then you're making sure you think to yourself, like when I think about the goals around my physical health or my financial health or my emotional health, like what are three to five daily actionable things I could be doing? Small goals, right, small things that I can be doing every day that will help me to actualize that goal. And then do that, write that plan. Make sure that you know what you need to be doing Once you accomplish those goals. Now new goals go up. I know that I need to be doing X, y, z. After that, before you get into those goals, make sure that you're writing them now and it's clear, so that you know when you've hit them, so you know how to celebrate yourself.

Speaker 2:

I need you to write down your daily wins, write down your daily thoughts, write down your hurdles. Like it is very, very much the truth that 80% of our thoughts, statistically, are negative. Only about 20% of our thoughts every day are positive. So the reality is you need to write down like what are those barriers? Like what are the things you're having to have mindset shifts for and overcome? Because knowing this information is going to create like the things you're having to have mindset shifts for and overcome. Because knowing this information is going to create like trends for you over time.

Speaker 2:

So you can know, like day 30, child, I am a wreck Whenever I'm working on my goal, like I didn't did 21 days and created the habit that people say that happens. But at day 30, I'm over the habit. At day 60, I'm on again and ready to go. So the next time you're working on a goal and you notice yourself kind of getting tired, getting negative, starting to question if you can do it, you can readily identify that this is my normal pattern. I will get over this, as opposed to you folding or running back to the start. We're not going back to the starting line. We are going to take a break where we are and pick it back up, but you're going to know your trends. And I think that is so important because many times we're going through the same cycles, the same experiences, and it's like it feels new, but it's not Go back and look, it's not new, like go back and look like it's not.

Speaker 2:

You Surround yourself with positive people Hammer, hammer, hammer. Surround yourself with positive people Like. You cannot allow negative people to eat up your space and eat away at your goals in the way that they allow their goals to go to the wayside. And it is really important that you're like in communities, going to events, a part of networks, groups, companies, listen, families let's talk about the families because sometimes you can't control your blood, but you can control how much time you spend in conversation. You could control what you allow the conversation to take you from one place to the next. You're just going to have to know that Cousin Becky is just like that. Auntie Lou is just like that. Cousin Crystal, she's just not going to cheer you on, she's not going to do whatever, and you have to be okay with that and, knowing how people are you can't always control the family part right and when their intentions are pure and you love your family, you don't just dismiss your family, but do try to control the other areas that you can.

Speaker 2:

Life is going to life, but it's very important that you keep in mind that the people, the things, the way you show up the places however that looks for you, and what you are patroning and what you are bringing into your circle and into your day-to-day life determines what your life looks like From the perspective of people coming in and the way that you show up for yourself in your day-to-day life. We are literally at a space to where there has to be reflection going on Like am I where I thought I would be? Do I still want to do the things I said I wanted to do? And you can make a change, you can pivot, you can say this is no longer for me, this no longer serves me, or actually I need to buckle down because we are mid-year, I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be.

Speaker 2:

I know I'm the one holding me back. I know those daily habits and daily actions are not where it needs to be. It is very clear and I know for a fact that my habits, my daily habits, my weekly habits, my monthly habits, determines the direction of my life. The trajectory of my life is determined by my mindset the things I decide to do, the things I decide I don't feel like doing, the people I bring into my circle, the places I choose not to go, the way that I choose to show up or not show up for myself determines the trajectory of my future, and I will not be the reason that I do not accomplish the things that I know I am destined for.

Speaker 2:

And so, as you're in that mid-year space, you could potentially be stressed because it's a lot of weight on those shoulders, while it's very important for you to recognize like what is it that you can play a better role in? What support you need, who you need on your team, what direction you want to go. Do you need a little bit of therapy? Because maybe you're not sure if the things that you're putting on your plate truly belongs to you? If you listened to the previous episode with Portia, we talked about putting all the things on your plate, and that's something you definitely don't want to do.

Speaker 2:

You are put here to do all of the things that align to you. Not all of the things that society tells you to do, not all of the things that your friends are doing, not all of the things that the people on social media are doing, but all of the things that align to you in the way that you want to live your life. Keep putting in the work. Don't give up on yourself. It's okay if you're not where you wanted to be. Decide what you need to do to get yourself there, whether it be emotionally, physically, spiritually, financially, whatever health you're working on. I need you to work on it. I cannot wait for you to look in the mirror and say that I was not in my way and I was able to accomplish the things I said I was going to accomplish because I knew I was deserving of living the life. Now go get it.
