The PRESS Movement Prayer Podcast

Intercession

Taquoya Porter Season 1 Episode 52

Ezra is in complete mourning for the sins of the children of Israel. It's not what He did, but he is praying because of what they did. How do you pray when it is not what you did, but you care enough that the other person or people are pleasing to God? Join us in Ezra 9 & 10 as we study this prayer.

PRESS means to apply force. When God said press, prayer reaches every single situation. He gave us permission to apply force to every situation that we will go through.

And in this podcast, we are going to learn to apply force to us applying pressure to us. Greetings, everybody, and welcome to the press podcast. So glad that you can join us one more time. And I am so grateful to have with me another one of these wonderful semi-young people. Get up there, but she's still young. For the most part. Yes, you are. Her name is Alysha Owens. Hi there. Welcome to the podcast, Alysha. Thank you. Thank you for taking me up on this.

No problem, I'm happy to be here. I'm excited.

That's awesome. Well today we're going to dive right in because this is a very interesting prayer. And for those of you out there who might be preachers, there's a ton of preaching points in this one. Some of these scriptures just jump off the page.

So Alysha's going to lead much of the discussion. So I'm going to turn it over to her as we go to Ezra chapter 9.

Alright, so the prayer that we are discussing today can be found in Ezra chapter 9 of 5 through 15 and because it starts at 5 obviously there's information in the first five verses that we are in the first four verses rather that we might Need so the beginning of this chapter starts with Ezra the priest it starts with the princes coming to him and kind of informing him that the people of Israel have been mixing and mingling with the people of other lands and taking their daughters for their sons and marrying them together and they've just been mixing which is exactly what God told them not to do and Ezra's response can be found starting in verse number five and it says and at the evening service I rose up from my heaviness and having ripped my garment and my mantle I fell upon my knees spread out my hands unto the Lord my God and said oh my God I am ashamed and blushed to lift up my face to thee my God for our Iniquities are increased over our head and our trespasses is grown up into the heaven And I'm giggling a little bit at that because I just love the language He used to describe what it is that they had done It was a grave a grave mistake that they had been making but I just love the language He used to talk about that and if you go a little bit further down He starts to talk to God just about God you you gave us grace and you showed us grace while we were in captivity And you left us a remnant to escape that can be found in verse 8 and in verse 9 It says for we were bond men yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage But hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia giving us a reviving to set up the house of our God and to repair the Desolations thereof and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem Goes on to say and what shall we say after this for we have forsaken thy commandments Which thou has commanded us by the servants of the prophets saying the land unto which you go to possess Is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands and with their abomination Which have filled it from one end to the other with their uncleanliness And so basically he just starts to remind God like this is what you told us and we went against that and What kind of stuck out to me the most here is in all actuality Ezra wasn't committing the sin He didn't do it the people did but he took it to God as if it was something that he was doing When he went to God, he said we have done this and I thought that was so cool because you know and nowadays There's not a whole lot of we didn't do anything like y'all did Got to be like y'all did that and I'm just going to him on your behalf But he went to God and said we've done this and he was grieved because of the mistake of the people It wasn't something that he had done, but it affected him as if it was something that he had done
