Shalom Aleichem's early novel "Fishke the Lame" offers a colorful catalogue of the various and odd characters that made up the Jewish community in the 19th century. In the engravings he created based on the novel, Kaplan turned this catalogue into a lively and charming memorial, refusing to let these characters be forgotten.
