Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Garfield Bowen.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in the need of a licensed contractor? Well, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, James Toth, with AnythingRenovationscom. James, how are you doing today?

Speaker 3:

I'm doing well, sir. Thank you so much for having us on your show.

Speaker 2:

Listen, we're excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us about your company.

Speaker 3:

Well, we have over 50 years of experience between my son and I. We're a father-son team and we're locally Stewart and Fort St Lucie. We service anywhere from Miami to Naples to Cocoa Beach, all up and down the Treasure Coast. We do anything from Section 8 to multi-billion dollar industry.

Speaker 2:

So tell me, James, how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

My mother owned well, actually, my dad bought a construction company, so my mom would stop visiting him at work to keep her busy, and so she put all my uncles to work, and since I was about seven years old I've had a tool belt on, and then my son, since he was about 10 months old. I each had a tool belt on.

Speaker 2:

So it's like the salt and pepper you put in your food. Huh, it's in your blood.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely, and it's funny too, because we both have college degrees in business, but we've applied our business aspect to the building aspect.

Speaker 2:

So what are some of the myths and misconceptions of the contractor construction business.

Speaker 3:

Well, as far as what I've come across is, you get a lot of people get what they pay for. So if the price seems too good to be true, generally you're going to get garbage. I would always ask my customers if they did their due diligence. You know, check with a few people first and then go with the best option. If everybody's right in the same range, then that's a good thing. Always check the Google off their website. Make sure they have good ratings. The reviews I have. I have three platforms. I have South Florida remodeling, Palm Beach painting and anything renovations which is locally, and I've been with South Florida remodeling for eight years and Palm Beach Painting, I think for seven or nine years. So I've been served, We've been working. We do everything from like the Hilton Hotel Resort we're currently finishing up in Naples at the Great Wolf Water Lodge, which we're all starting to see commercials for now.

Speaker 3:

We were out there for the last eight months. We do anything from industrial to simple basic. You know, paint a couple of rooms inside of a house.

Speaker 2:

So, james, when you're not busy running your business, what do you like to do for fun?

Speaker 3:

I like to, I like to, I like to ride my Harley and I like to fish. I bring meetings into the local institutions to hopefully plant some seeds of hope to individuals where they have no hope. And I've worked the suicide hotline occasionally, Um, you know, because I just feel like you know, if somebody could just hang on for that one minute, the light will shine.

Speaker 2:

Let's change gears a little bit. Let's talk about some um one hardship, uh, life challenge, something that you've been doing. You can look back to the answer. You're better and stronger because of it. What comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

I've had to deal with uh suicide in my family. I've had uh, two twin sisters and a brother commit suicide. And what it made it do, what it made for what it made me do was realize that the world doesn't really revolve around me and, uh, I went through a period of great depression, didn't know what depression was about, and I finally you know, believe it or not I just reached out for some local help, free local help, and I found out what depression was all about. I had it. I didn't have to take any meds or anything like that. I just got to the root of the cause and in return, by helping other people, it helped me.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I had some family members that go through things as well and it seems a lot of it is pressure, unnecessary pressure we put on ourselves in terms of expectations.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. And then not only that. You know social media can be really crazy, especially for the young kids, and with the substances that are out there right now, it's not like when you and I were kids. You know not many people were dying from marijuana. You know, today you don't even know you could be taking an aspirin and the next thing you know it's still with fentanyl in your debt. It's just, it's crazy the things that are going on today. And you know, it seems like the younger generation feels like they're lost and I try to bring hope to them and let them know they're not lost. And you know, hope is just right around the corner. You just need that mustard seed of hope.

Speaker 2:

That's it, James. I want to put you on the spot a little bit, if that's okay. Sure, that's not a problem. I know there's a lot you want to say about your company, but I want you to narrow it down to one thing, one thing that you want our listeners to remember about anythingrenovationscom.

Speaker 3:

First of all, we're a father-son team. I was, I was a single dad. I raised them by myself. So what you, what you get from us, is quality over quantity, professionalism, and not only that. You'll be able to brag about the good work we have for fair prices. We do really good work for people. We work with people within their budget constraints and we try to achieve their dreams and goals for their budget.

Speaker 2:

My listeners now are looking around their house and thinking about all the things that they need done, and they have one question that lips, and that's how? How can they get more information on anything?

Speaker 3:

renovationscom well, they can visit my uh my website or they can call me personally at area code 772-779-1132. Be more than willing, my son, myself or another one of my uh workers will come out.

Speaker 1:

We'll talk we do we do onsite quotes for free.

Speaker 3:

We don't charge anybody, and if you don't go with us, you might end up giving our name to somebody else.
