Speaker 2:

Hi everyone and welcome to episode number 117 of the Good Neighbor Podcast. Today we have with us Anna Skelton and she is with Organizing by Anna. How are you doing today, anna?

Speaker 3:

I'm doing really good. How are you doing? I'm doing good.

Speaker 2:

Thanks. Let's start off and tell us about your business. What do you do?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. I am the owner, obviously, of Organizing by Anna. I am a professional organizer. My slogan is organizing anything big and small. My true passion is organizing decluttering homes, rooms, garages, businesses, you name it, I'll organize it.

Speaker 2:

That is awesome. Tell us about your journey. How or why did you get started in this business?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely Quite. Honestly, I started organizing to save up for my wedding in 2022. And it's kind of always been my passion. I always did family friends, things like that and as I started doing it in 2022, I just fell in love with it. I love creating a calm space for my clients. I truly believe that we are all so busy and we do not have time to be stressed out in a spot in our house or in our house in general.

Speaker 2:

I like that calm space for your clients Absolutely. Can you tell us about any myths or misconceptions that you hear about in your industry?

Speaker 3:

For sure the biggest myth that I have seen in that people believe that organizing just doesn't work for them. And you know, my biggest thing when I'm working with my clients is to create a space that truly, truly works for them. So I make sure that I'm working right along the client to make sure it works for their every day. So if there are systems that need to happen because you can only put away things on Fridays or things like that and having a system to make sure that this system is sustainable, Kind of like when I do my laundry once a week.

Speaker 2:

Right, that's my system.

Speaker 3:

Yes, exactly, you have to have a system, and we're all so busy that, like you, can't just expect to be able to put everything away. But you can have a shelf that you put stuff on and you know that at the end of the week you're going to put that stuff away on the shelf, and so you have a space, instead of it just cluttering up your floor and cluttering up your life, you know, because I feel like the chaos creates chaos in your mind and it's just a lot you know. And so creating that space that is organized and makes sense is is truly important.

Speaker 2:

I like that idea, so thanks for sharing that tip too. What do you like to do for fun when you're not working on your business?

Speaker 3:

So, quite honestly, I do work full-time as well as, do you know, organizing part-time, because I love it so much, the life that I chose for myself. But I do have two very large dogs that I love to walk and take on new adventures as well, as my husband, and I love to travel.

Speaker 2:

Tell us a little bit about your two amazing dogs that you have.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I have a four-year-old Alaskan Malamute and he is beautiful. He's 95 pounds and all the energy in the world. And then I have a 65-pound Newfie Poo, so a Newfoundland poodle. He's the sweetest, like old soul. He has a lot of allergies so he's my expensive pup, but they're just both the best. They're just like having children, right. Exactly Like my Newfie Poo, I have to bathe him every day, so he basically is like a child.

Speaker 2:

That is amazing. We all love our fur babies 100%. So, anna, can you describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose above and can now say because of that challenge that you're better for it and are stronger?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely better for it and are stronger Absolutely. So you know, my biggest thing is we have all worked in industries where they didn't care about the client, they didn't care about the employees, they didn't really care about anything except the dollar mark, and I have always strived on being a very caring person, and so a lot of my challenges in the industries I've worked with is they've been, they've tried to like dull my ability to care, which hasn't worked. I I I've worked through that because it just I'd never wanted to be in that place of not caring what I was doing every single day. So, with organizing, I have truly like found a business that I'm helping people in their everyday life and I'm in a space that I can truly care for my clients. I work with them with however they need it. So you know if they just need a solution and you know they only need really like a consultation or something like that, I want to work and help because, at the end of the day, I want to create these spaces that really help all of my clients.

Speaker 2:

That is amazing, so thank you for that. What is one thing you wish our listeners knew about your business?

Speaker 3:

Absolutely so. I would say the biggest fear that people have when I come into their house, usually it's like the person that didn't hire me, it's their spouse or something like that. They assume I'm just there to throw everything away. And I always tell my clients I'm not here to throw anything away, I'm here to find a home and a space for everything. So you know I will have an honest conversation about you know where you see that space. Is it possible? All of those things to make sure that you know you're not disappointed in the end. But also you know I I want to make sure that you're comfortable with me and so I'm not going to throw all of your stuff away. It's just it's not what I do because it's not my stuff, you know. And so I would want you to be comfortable enough to be like nope, I need to keep that. I want to keep that and that you know if it's your stuff and you can find it. That makes me happy.

Speaker 2:

That is great, and you can find it. That makes me happy, that is great. So our listeners are intrigued.

Speaker 3:

They want to learn more. How can they contact you? Absolutely, they can give me a call. I love to talk about solutions, things like that. My cell phone number is or my number is, 810-728-2058. I also, if they have some questions about you, know how the process works, some of my systems that I use. They can also visit my website, which is wwworganizingbyannacom, and they can, you know, reach out that way as well. I have a contact us on that as well, so if they have questions, they can ask through that as well.
