On today’s episode of Life After Kids, the topic of discussion is setting a daily code of conduct in order to have more meaning in midlife. This code of conduct aims to bring more joy, intention, and purposeful emotions into your day. We’re in our late 40s, with Dr. Lynne turning 50 next year, and we both agree that turning 30 and 50 is rougher than 20 and 40. One way to overcome emotional distress and doldrums in this phase of life is with a daily code of conduct.  A code of conduct is an important step for living our best mid-life, along with staying emotionally balanced, fostering resilience, finding purpose in life, and being mindful of physical and mental health.

There’s a dated perception that turning 50 is considered over the hill, but times are changing!  We believe that aging can have positive changes and that quality of life should be prioritized over quantity of years. This mindset helps make aging more positive and fulfilling.  The code of conduct is a tool that can be used to ensure that you’re living the life you want on a daily basis, and it was introduced to us by Tony Robbins. It is a way to set expectations for yourself and to focus on the feelings you want to have throughout your day rather than a specific goal.

Thriving in midlife is about finding a balance between goal setting and enjoying the journey. A code of conduct can be used to remind us to focus on the journey and how we want to feel day to day, instead of just chasing after our goals. In Life after Kids, it's important to have goals, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey that leads to them.  Listen to the full episode for more about setting a daily code of conduct.
