Let's dive into it and have some fun. Howdy, Chris. How are you today, Mr. Valentine? How you doing? You know, it's a it's a wonderful day. I haven't had as much coffee as I did in this last episode, but doing good. Nice, nice. I actually have a I've I've probably had two pots of coffee already today and the fourth I've been to.

Yeah, I've been to Starbucks three times already. Three times each time everybody as I because they saw the episode this week and everybody's like, you want to make your own drink. And I'm like, No, man, I barely even know how to make a breakfast sandwich. And please just spare me all the all this. I just want to get my coffee and just get the hell out of here.

Please. But everybody, I went to three separate Starbucks, each Starbucks, everybody recognized me from the episode. No shit. Yeah. Every buddy, everybody's like, Hey, hey, food store, Make your coffee. Come back here. I almost was going to grab apron from one guy and go back there and start making it. But then my PTSD from that episode just kicked in and I was like, No.

And everything's just got real slow motion. And I'm like, Oh, you're line in your ear. I'm expecting, you know, Caroline's freaking out. I see pink hair. Ashley Ladd, Gordon's big head coming in, criticizing everything I'm doing. I just can't do it. I'm just like, I just need coffee. I need more coffee. So that's it. That's my story for today.

That's awesome. So if you guys watched last night's episode, we were in downtown Seattle today or this challenge, we were supposed to effectively run a coffee pop up shop. Gordon split us into two teams and we had a round robin style like a pickup basketball game. He took our two coffee experts. Well, I say it with air quotes, coffee experts and made them pick teams and it was it was an interesting way to start.

I'm just going to say this. I'm still a little bitter at the fact that I didn't get picked first. So Ashley gets picked first and then it's Megan's turn. Megan starts going into this next person, great interpersonal skills, great teammate, blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. In my head, I'm like, Shit, I'm on Megan's team.

And then she swerves everyone. She picks you. Oh, I. You just described me and you picked Aaron, and then lan picks me and I was like, All right, second round draft pick. Those are the ones that win championships for people. All right, So not all right, but I've got a theory not to take anything away from you watching that episode, rewatching I've it's very clear that it was broken broken up into the two coffee experts.

There's Megan, There's lan. Each one of them has their own coffee. Drink. I feel like one of them's going home. Seeing how Megan has behaved in previous challenges with Queen, with Caroline. Sydney. Just knowing Megan, I feel like she knew that. And she picked you first as her scapegoat. Oh, because it's an easy person to point to and say, I know what I'm doing.

But we lost because of Erin. Whoa. And the fact that she threw me behind the coffee bar and she's the coffee expert rattling my fucking brain like, I don't know how to say that before coffee expert, you should be making your own coffee lands a perfect example and fucking killed it. She hopped behind the espresso machine to. Yeah, she owned it.

Megan didn't even know how to fraught the fucking milk. Ooh. Like, ooh, your coffee expert. I feel like you should be behind the bar. It'd be like if Tony was a chef and he never wanted to cook. That's actually a great analogy. So how did that make you feel going into it and then realizing that she, the coffee expert, the leader of your team, actually isn't a coffee expert?

You know, I thought it was ironic. I mean, she didn't even want to have decaf on the fucking menu. And it's 20% of Seattle's coffee intake and so I'm like, Oh, yeah, coffee expert. Let me go ahead and show you how I do coffee in Missouri at my girl snow cone shop. And so that everybody keeps dissing you.

Yeah. And marginalizing and diminishing your value. And you actually stepped up and you're wearing this army knife, motherfucker. I'm making the coffee. That's right. I'm making the snow cones. Like, throw me somewhere. I'm going to figure it out. I'm not as one dimensional as someone might think. I might be inexperienced, but I'm willing to step up and learn different spots.

And yeah, I just thought it was strange with her having all of this coffee expertise. She didn't want to do decaf. She didn't know how to pair food and coffee together, and then she wanted to throw me behind the bar and she wanted to be the face after she picked me for my personal skills. Which. Which. Yes, that's right.

She picked you for your personal personality, and I didn't get to fucking talk because I'm just railing in the coffee that she couldn't even ride on the cup, which furthers my theory, which just goes to strengthen my theory that she picked you because she knew either her land was going home and she needed a scapegoat as a safety net.

And I think that was you, man. Well, I'm not taking anything away from you. I think you killed it. Given the situation, you're not one dimensional. I think it's unfair that people continue to discount you. You know, we're way challenged seven now and you're still here. Yeah. Fucking you're evolving more so than any other contestant on this show.

Like a pokimane on steroids. That's right. That's exactly it. Oh, my God. You're like the head and chairs are gone. Holy crap. I choose you. Erin and I just come out of the ball, but I feel like Megan was using you to throw you under the bus. Eventually. It's a good tactic. You know, I've had a lot of close calls.

You can't. She might have had a bad taste in her mouth after last week because we killed the challenge and she didn't like the way that we did it. But, yeah, you know, it's whatever. I'm not mad I didn't go home. It's tough for her, I guess, but. Yeah. No, no, it works out in my favor, not her.

So I can't be mad. I'm glad that things happened the way that they did. Nice. Now, on that note about coffee expert, what are the things? Like, I drink a lot of coffee. I think everybody knew that. How much coffee I drink, you know, shooting the shows. But I've never blended my own coffee. I don't know how to blend coffee.

I don't know how to formulate a coffee drink. I've never done that before. Well, no, I have. We had a coffee. We've printed coffee here. Right on. Yeah, we have. We've printed coffee. We've. We've made coffee flavors, but never like a hot coffee. We've never made a hot coffee and blended the beans. I've never blended beans to create a coffee flavor.

Right. One thing that caught me was during the challenge, they don't show this. This is behind the scenes stuff. So this is a behind the scenes lesson. Asked me to blend the coffee and I just like you was looking at her. I'm going, Oh, you're the coffee expert. Don't you think you should be? And she's like, No, Well, you're a chemist and you know how to formulate, so I need you to do this.

And I'm like, Oh, yeah. Don't you think that's going to make your expertise questionable? So that for me was like, Whoa. But then that was like the small point, right? Because it's like kind of like Jake and Jake. In episode three, you create the brand, go present the brand, and here you're the coffee expert, you blend the coffee flavor.

And she it she decided not to do this. She threw that on me. And so I thought that was interesting. But you had drama on your side. Your team ended up losing. There was a crap ton more drama on my side. Well, you had the X Factor, so it doesn't surprise me that there was more drama in your kitchen.

Man, I'm still bitter. I didn't get picked first. Caroline. Poor girl. She got picked last. It was like the the the fat kid in dodgeball gets picked last week just by default. So it's, you know, at some point we're going to have Caroline on and we're going to talk to Caroline. I can't wait for that. No, it's going to be great.

Who planted the coffee on your team? It was Meghan and I both. That was the we started blending in. We were working together on it. And then that's also when we, like, made the coffee selection. And she wanted to go away from decaf. Got it. But, you know, that's actually interesting. You said something earlier when we were talking just now.

Now we just had a challenge. We were both on the same team and Megan was there. And on the previous podcast we talked about and I asked you, had I not been on your team, do you think Megan and lan would have allowed you to do your thing? Now you're on a team with Megan and she picked you for one thing, right?

She didn't let you do your one thing. Set me up for failure. She sets you up for failure. Yeah. And then you kind of reaffirm in this thread as that you're reaching out first. But I'm, like, starting to fall into it, right? Yeah, Maybe because it's like we've talked before. I know that, like, post episode five show we did, we kind of talked about how Megan just threw Queen under the bus and left the team out of everything, and it was all about her.

And so, you know, that could be something that could be said for this challenge, you know, as our challenge went through in our coffee or in our pop up shop, you know, she never left the front. And me and Tony were getting absolutely slaughtered. And it was difficult. You know, Tony was helping me out, but she never quite left the front.

She just like being that the latches put up in the front, she wanted to be the spark and the face. And how did that make you feel? Were you bitter throughout the challenge and just going, Damn, yeah, well, we're singing because then we have Tony trying to do the coffee machine and Tony's like a grill master. Tony doesn't know shit about coffee.

He don't drink coffee, he drinks coffee and he shifts for three days. Right. So I co I got Tony helping me on the coffee and like, Yeah, you can't have Megan step back and come back and help me the entire time. But like when we look at qualifications here, Tony should not have been on the coffee machine with me, but thank God that he was because he was doing things like just pouring the drip espresso and the minimal stuff and letting me do the blending.

But there's a handicap, too, when we when we look at this challenge and you get an influx of people, you get this huge volume, you can only make coffee so fast or you can only steam so much milk at a time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's like you're making one drink at a time. I'm sorry. I'm not a coffee expert.

I can't to hand the milk for others and do them on both sides. So yeah, that's a Megan thing and she chose not to do it. Well, let's. Aaron's getting his payback right now. I love it. I love it, but let's just call it out. Your team was at a disadvantage. Yeah, we really were down. A person is huge in a kitchen like that. You're down one person compared to my team. But at the end of the day, and I want to point this one out, Landon actually didn't want Caroline on our team, even though she was a body on our team and she helped. It was almost like we had the same amount of people. But you can't deny too, throughout these challenges, Caroline makes a great face. No matter what challenge we've been in, no matter what kind of drama is caused by Caroline when she's put in front of house, she does exceptionally well. I will say like when we when the gala, for example, week two, let's recall what was the big note that those guest judges had. Caroline greeted them exceptionally. And it's a reoccurring thing with Caroline, which is amazing. Her personality from the outside. Everybody loves Caroline's personality on the show. Like when we were shooting the show and each challenge, Caroline's personality comes out right. And it's just amazing how people watching the show on Reddit and all these other forums are just bashing her and they just hate her because at face value, Caroline is a very nice person. Yeah, and to a random person with the show and how the ended it, you're getting her like competition. What I want to be in competition with Caroline. No never. What? I won't be on the same team. Not always. But when it comes to actually performing the task in front of people, she does really well. And she's a people pleasing person. She's all about love and doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings. And no, she does that to her advantage. And she's the one that came up with the name for our coffee shop, which was, I love you, bro. I love you. Brew Right. You know, And it's just like it's all about love. And Ashley wasn't having it. Lan wasn't crazy about it in my whole situation was. I mean, smack dab in the middle between Caroline, lan and Ashley and I had just to make sure on challenge day to make sure Caroline's doing her job, that there's no friction and that we don't implode. That was my entire responsibility. Whatever you see on the show is fine. But my real task there was to make sure things were going smoothly. Yeah, I messed up. One of the things on the expo wasn't entirely my fault, but from there on we had smooth sailing. I'm watching over Caroline, making sure she's good, making sure lan and Ashley are having minimal interaction with Caroline. I'm that buffer guy. Yeah, she was at the front lane and actually were in the back. Yeah, we're right in the middle. Did it do you feel that as though it worked out for you? Obviously you won, but throughout the chatter, throughout the challenge, you're back there in real time. What could you feel the friction? Did you feel like you were doing a good job? It could have been worse without I said this last podcast about Challenge six Episode six me being on your team. If you remove me from our team, Ashley Lane and Caroline at each other up, they eat each other up. It was like I was in Mean Girls, I was on Mean Girls and those ladies great individually put them together. They are catty and they want to kill each other and it was ugly. And I'm just a guy. I'm just trying to be the rational person. I'm like, Yeah, why don't we just all get along right and let's just do this thing? I'm going to make some sandwiches, I'm going to watch over Caroline, make sure she's taking orders. Good. I'm going to greet people. Lynn Ashley, you don't ever have to talk to Caroline because I got her. Caroline doesn't piss me off. I'm the liaison between the two worlds. Yeah, I was a mediator on that show. You're friends with everybody. This is something cool to know. I think throughout these challenges, you know, there's not. There's not a lot about Chris other than his bald head on the Internet. But what they don't realize is that is because Chris is a common player, he gets along with everybody. He'll shoot you straight. He'll tell Caroline when she's being drama and she needs to chill the fuck out. But at the same time, everybody has a certain level of respect for you that they don't have for everybody else. And I think that's a big reason why you play a really good mediator throughout this, because no one has a bone to pick with. You know, I really don't get into a fight with anybody. I appreciate you saying that. They appreciate it. I was like the common the I don't know, peaceful person throughout it all. Kind of like the adult on the show. That just always was like looking at the bigger picture and not allowing bullshit, trivial minutia to get in the way of us winning a challenge. Now, that didn't always work. And there are some times where I'm seeing the ship burn and I just go, I'm not getting involved in that. I'm walking away for what? I'm going to end up being a bad guy I don't like. I'm not getting involved in that bullshit. I don't do that in my personal life. I'm not going to do that on TV. No. So it's just, you know, but I appreciate you saying that. But yeah, I was the mediator. I think if you remove me from that challenge, land goes home. Yeah, I think if it was land Ashley and Caroline and I'm on your team, I think land goes home because I don't think they overcome their internal strife. No, I think there's issues. And then. And then, like, it's been the common denominator throughout the challenges. The leader goes home. Yeah, it's a, it's kind of like an undeniable thing at this point. Your leaders are going to go because if you step up and you're going to take that responsibility of everybody else's performance, you have to ultimately answer for the performance of the entire team. So, you know, so, you know, fortunately, Megan went home. How does that make you feel? Oh, I felt fucking great. It's about time I had real genuine honesty. I was so glad to see her get said. How were you and Tony behind the scenes? Like, are you and Tony like, do Tony and I were pissed. Okay, So we developed this concept. She's the leader, so we're like, we'll give you, you know, she has the creative freedom to do what she wants, and then it's up to us to kind of execute our individual things. So she wants to play into her Mexican heritage and we come up with La Chispa. Great. I don't know, like a Spanish. She doesn't either. News flash, But we come up with the cheeseburger and we put it up on the board. You know, they don't edit this in, but you guys would love this. We put up La Chispa the spark. Well, Megan misspelt it. So when Gordon came in for our first checkup, he goes, La Chispa the spank. Oh, Meghan wrote this pink on the board. Such a bad look. That's. No, that's not to be a bad. I didn't make the cut, but it was so funny and good and it was just like a joke or and made it. And we all laughed. And then he laughed. But no, I think the whole time we ran with this idea as bad, Meghan put in a lot of good sense as to like the drinks that we had and ultimately our food and our drinks were delicious. The the midnight mocha that her and I put together was exceptional. Like, I really enjoyed it. It was a good drink. We should make it some time, dude. It was just kind of like a it was like a mocha with what I think is a little bit of cinnamon. So it's like kind of cinnamon chocolate latte do, but really good. And Tony, although he didn't have a savory item since Gordon yelled at me, I have learned what savory and salty is or whatever. I don't fucking care. But I was watching the episode last night and I was like, Wow, I look like a complete buffoon. But I know Tony and I were a little a little frustrated because she's running the front of house, she's doing the expo, and there's issues that kept coming up in the expo. She's not running things on the cup, right? Which then makes me look bad because I'm handing someone the wrong jump. Yeah, and that's frustrating. And Tony, you know, not all the pastries are getting out. I could tell that was frustrating him as well. So him and I were just kind of like, Dude, this is bullshit. We're like, me and Tony were hustling as hard as we could. My espresso machine went down at one point. I didn't have a espresso machine for a certain period of the challenge, so that was another difficult challenge, the face that didn't make the cut. But Tony and I were just rather I mean, Tony were being cool since the beginning of the show. So him and I have a good chemistry together. Yeah. So yeah, that was the gist of our thing. There was no drama like it was Tony and I. We don't do the fucking drama. No, I'm not going to start anything. It's going to make things worse because the dudes on the show, we would just flat out just say, Hey, you're being an idiot right now. Hey, get your shit together. And that was it. The girls took it to a whole different level. Yeah, there would be all this behind the scenes crap, cattiness, people conniving and strategizing how to get certain people off the show. I just sitting there and, like, I just want to have a cup of coffee and just be left a piece. Man piece. This this Seattle challenge was cool because throughout the last seven weeks now, every morning when we wake up, Chris walks out from his hotel room that we were staying in and he has to fuck in pots of black coffee. And we walk every single day to like the kitchen people at this hotel that we were staying that had two pots of coffee ready for Chris to take back to his room. Yeah, it would be the exchange in the morning. I thought he was a complete psychopath the first day. Yeah, she said the craziest. I said, okay, fifth class. Yes. And that would be my coffee for the rest of the day. The two pots of coffee. And I'd exchange the pots in the morning and they'd give me fresh pots. I'm like, like one of those cockroaches from men in black just sitting in the in the break room, just drinking straight out of the pot, you know, is the one thing that nobody realizes either. But I in this episode, it's just so evident in one of the scenes, the massive wad of chew I've got in my mouth. It's coffee you chew is what kept me alive throughout this entire process. I've got this massive wad on the side of my mouth and they're asking my opinion. I'm like, Yeah. I'm like, Oh, I did a bad job in that scene, keeping it hidden. You know, one of the I think one of the hardest things for me during this challenge was when we first got in, we had to wake up at like 3:00 in the morning day of the challenge. So we had our prep time is our first day, seven days when we're actually running The challenge in a coffee shop opens by like four or 5:00. So we're up at like 3:00 from our hotel in Seattle. We get to the where we're filming in our pop up shops. We see it for the first time and then from like we have about an hour to get shop set up because I think we opened around 5:00. Yeah. And then we had a two, two and a half hour service, something like that. But it was early and when you're filming you're up late. So there was very little sleep that happened between day one and day two. I think that that challenge day, I might have gotten two and a half hours of sleep. Yeah, like that would be less very difficult. And that probably played out through a lot of people scenarios and problems that we had. Yeah. So no, as soon as I got in, I start running the coffee machine, I shit. You know, I had down about ten shots of espresso because I was taste testing. But by the time people started rolling through the door, I was like, Oh, like ringing a people walk it in and I'm like, Beautiful day in Seattle. Everybody in Seattle is just a cold, miserable, rainy area. It's foggy all the time. It's dark, right? I will say this one thing with all the limited sleep we have, look at all the episodes up until now. Lands makeup is on point every fuckin time I look like shit because I'm sleep deprived lands make up on point all the time. I'm like, Glen, that that challenge I pulled Lillian aside, I go, Lynn, how long does it take you like you have to if we're up at three to be on set to do this challenge, you got to be up at like 130 in the morning to start your makeup, right? And she says, No, I do it in 15 minutes. I said, I can't bullshit right now. Bullshit. We'll have land here one day. You'll interview her. I'm going to call her out. That does not take 15 minutes. I know, because my wife does her makeup and on shit. Don't take 15 minutes. If you're a guy out there and your wife does her makeup. How many guys have wives that have makeup like that? And it takes 15 minutes, lands waking up 2 hours before everyone else just to do her face. I'm calling out right now. Lands a warrior. She's committed to that makeup man. It's fucking hilarious. Well, she she did very well in this challenge throughout this these series of challenges. I felt that in the very beginning, everybody hated land because of the first drama right out the gate. Nobody knew what to expect. And they were like starting to get her voice. She started to get her voice. Then you see her kind of taper off and she's real mellow throughout the next few challenges. Yeah, but she really started to step up these last few challenges and it's been cool to see her. I feel like, you know, you talk about heights, but I felt like she developed, especially at this point, like that was a huge win for Lynn, and I think she needed that to be able to carry herself in this competition. Food Stars The first episode, there were three things you could count on in life death, taxes and Lane was going to the grilling. Yeah, right. And now we're in episode seven and lan starting to gain her confidence. She's got momentum. We're nearing the end and she's like, the long shot. Who's coming in strong? Yeah, at the last heap. And she's coming in and she's going to. It was. It was nuts to see how she turned it on from as soon as we got there to pick our teams. And Gordon splits Megan and Lynn up and makes him pick round robin style. It was like instantly something about land just changed in that and that one challenge and it lit her up and I was like, Oh shit lands, I got some confit ants and she's executing really well and throwing her behind the coffee bar. You know, from what I hear and what I watched last night, you guys did an exceptional job on that side. Given the challenges that you have between your personalities. Yeah, Yeah. And that's cool. That's really cool that it ultimately all worked out and I'm glad that it did because I didn't want to go home. No, I don't want to lose. Yeah, we're getting towards the end here. We're so close. We're so close to the end. And now we're going into challenge eight, we're going into episode eight and there's that. We have three challenges left after this. And it starting to really hit home for me. After the Tick Tock challenge started too. But after this one, with three people in my kitchen and going into that grilling, knowing that, yeah, how do you feel if each challenge did I go into the grilling, Gordon's ripping me about shit that I am like, feel guilty about? I'm like, I could get sent home and you're sitting there and instead of a team of five, it's three people. And so you're looking to your left, you're looking to your right, and you're like, Well, fuck, dude, there's very good odds. I go home right now. And so that was the most intense grilling that I have had because I was honestly perfectly ready to go home given the circumstances. But I just knew that since Meghan was the leader, it would be the time that she finally goes, Got it. And but no, it's intense because even though in your brain, you're like, She's the leader. There's a common theme here. Leaders go home. It's you just never know. You never know. With Gordon, you never know where this is thinking or what they're going to choose to pick up on use And the final edits. You know, for all I know, they could have told totally. But something like you just don't know. As confident as you can be, even in that Tock challenge, as confident as you can be, you never know, never fucking know. And for me, where I come from, I'm like, Oh my God, dude, I thought it maybe week three. I was out of here, but I'm like, It's week seven now. I'm like, Okay, I actually want to fucking win this. It's not about the like, Yeah, I'm just here in the beginning and I'm like, grateful to be here now. I'm getting close. I can see the end. You know, at this point, they're starting to ask you questions about like if you were in the final episode, you know, would you want your family to come, Who would you? And so to get that conversation and know that I'm this deep into it, I'm like calm people back home, like my mom. It's kind of my mom. I'm not coming home like I'm going to go, you're anyway, now you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now, things have changed for you since you're Hong Kong. Hong Kong? Silver Do they change so much? You know, because there's there's a new found confidence similar to how lean you can see that confidence in her. I felt that because coming out of that challenge I was like, okay, like I might be the kid, I might be an underdog, I might not know shit, but I was like, I've stuck it out longer than ten other motherfuckers here. Yeah, you know, or just about. Yeah. And so it's like, okay. And even prior, you know, in the very beginning, before you even make final cast, there's like an extra 10 to 15 people that are there. And so from day one, when I got to L.A. and I'm like a kid in Shining Star, I'm like, Dude, there's 30 people here, and I've singlehandedly made it past the majority of you. I was like, Okay, to be one of the five, the 15 that start Food Stars. It's the same as being a sperm that makes it through the egg. Okay, that's what you're like. But I was born again. Yeah, that's you. Get through. Gordon Yeah, that's exactly what it's like. And. But the lights at the end of the tunnel. You've evolved so much since you're all Elvis stuff. Yeah, And here we are. We got three challenges left until Gordon makes his final decision. Are you feeling the heat? Are you feeling like you got this? Are you feeling mentally? Dude, I'm exhausted. Like, after that one in the little sleep, I'm exhausted. But going into the eighth week, knowing that, okay, there's eight, nine, ten, I got to make it. Really? I really only have to make it through two more challenges. And then I'm in the finale and like, you make it to the finale as a 20 year old kid with a bullshit snow cone stand, as everyone likes to say, then, you know, it makes me feel really fucking good. You're going to prove a lot of people are going to prove a lot of people wrong. And, you know, for me personally, when I started doing, you know, the tick tock stuff two years ago to promote it, it's like I never saw this in my forecast.
