Pushing yourself to new heights

Sawsha Turpin Season 1 Episode 14

Deena shares her love of backpacking.  She talks about the fun of it, while taking in the views that she loves.  She puts herself to the test in it and does races and always wants to do better than the last time.

SLC/Provo area:

 - Timpanogos via the Aspen Grove trail - 14 miles round trip, 4875' elevation gain, really beautiful mountain views, almost guaranteed to see moose and mountain goats, amazing flowers once the snow melts

Southern Utah/Northern Arizona:

 - Druid Arch in Canyonlands Needles district - lots of ways to get to this spot but the shortest for a day hike is about 10 miles round trip from Elephant Hill, 1446' elevation gain, really stunning landscapes and Druid Arch itself is one of the neatest arches I've seen

 - Boulder Mail Trail/Death Hollow near Escalante - 20.4 miles with 1560' elevation loss, an absolute gorgeous hike with the best of both worlds, first 6ish miles are beautful desert and then you're in a deep canyon with water throughout, only drawback to this is lots of poison ivy but just cover up and enjoy the views

 - Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon - a few ways you can accomplish this one as well but I recommend South Kaibab - North Kaibab - Bright Angel which will give you a total of 44.5 miles with 11,443' elevation gain, sounds daunting but it's a classic and doable with lots of training, also requires lots of planning for logistics but it's a bucket list trip for lots of people

 - Paria Canyon - you could start this from 3 different trailheads but if weather is cooperating I would start at Wire Pass which will give you 41.6 miles and 4429' elevation gain, that route will bring you through Buckskin Gulch which is an amazing slot canyon, at the confluence you follow Paria east and it just gets prettier and prettier
