This episode is part 2 of the three-part series on racism in nursing.  This episode focuses on the nurse-to-nurse form of racism by first offering the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing definition of racism as “Assaults on the human spirit in the form of actions, biases, prejudices, and an ideology of superiority based on race that persistently cause moral suffering and physical harm of individuals and perpetuate systemic injustices and inequities.” The host also discusses the complexity and the intertwining of culture and racism. Part 3 will offer tangible ways to address racism.

I became a nurse in 2007 and have had stints in the emergency department, medical intensive care unit, neuro intensive care unit, coronary care unit, post anesthesia care unit, electrophysiology lab, flight nursing in the U.S. Air Force, and clinical nursing instructorship. I served as an FDA drug investigator for four years. I am U.S. Air Force combat veteran and am currently on active duty as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service. My mission is to help nurses find their voice and thrive by providing helpful tips on matters ranging from resiliency to career advice on civilian and military nursing.
