What's the deal with baptism, anyway? Follow along with an open King James Bible as Brother Scott Evans teaches on the subject of baptism. And as always, like the noble Bereans, search the scriptures to see if what I am teaching is true. Don't just take my word for it.
Grace and Peace to you and yours.

I hope you enjoyed this episode of Brother Scott's Look in the Book, and most of all, I pray you learned from it and that it helped you dive deeper into God's word, which he places above his very name.
(Psalm 138:2 KJV) (2) I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God gives us instruction on how to study our Bibles:
(2 Timothy 2:15 KJV) (15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Please do not only go by what I say, but do the work and study for yourself.
"Anything I can talk you into, someone else can talk you out of."

Hi! This is brother Scott with another Truth Time, Look in the Book!
Today is part 3 in my series, “Bible Key Words and Meanings A to Z.”
We move on to the letter “B.”
The word today is:

Baptize

In time past, the gospel being preached for salvation throughout Jerusalem was, be water baptized.
Water was the means of baptism in Acts 8:36, 38.
(Acts 8:36, 38 KJV)
(36) And as they went on their way [that’s Philip and the eunuch], they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
(38) And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Water baptism was not an option but was mandatory for Israel's salvation.
Peter said to repent and be baptized in water for salvation in Acts 2:38.
(Acts 2:38 KJV)
(38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

And as we read further, there is more evidence of water baptism for salvation:
(Mark 16:16 KJV)
(16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

(Matthew 28:19-20 KJV)
(19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
(20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

(John 1:31 KJV)
(31) And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

But now, under grace, Jesus changed the requirement for receiving salvation, and it no longer includes water:

(1 Corinthians 1:14 KJV)
(14) I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

(1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV)
(17) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

(1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV)
(13) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

The book of Acts is a transitional book.
It gives the account of transitioning from Jew to Gentile, law to grace, Peter to Paul, fleshly circumcision and water baptism to spiritual circumcision and spirit baptism.
Our apostle Paul received many revelations directly from Christ

(Acts 26:16 KJV)
(16) But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

(2 Corinthians 12:1, 7 KJV)
(1) It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
(7) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

As mentioned earlier, according to 1 Corinthians 1:17, water baptism was not a part of Paul's gospel to the gentiles. It was the Jews who required a sign.

(1 Corinthians 1:22 KJV)
(22) For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

But we walk by faith and not by sight

(2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)
(7) (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Paul says to (dry faith) and be sealed without one drop:

(Ephesians 1:12-13 KJV)
(12) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
(13) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

(Titus 3:5 KJV)
(5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The Lord changes things & instructs Paul that water is no longer needed. It is now the "one baptism" "by one Spirit". No man and no water needed:

(Ephesians 4:5 KJV)
(5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism [not two],

(1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV)
(13) For by one Spirit [not by one man] are we all baptized into one body [not a baptistry], whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

If sins were forgiven at the cross, why was Paul baptized to wash away sins?
Saul of Tarsis was converted on the road to Damascus by his encounter with Jesus Christ.
Before that he was a jailer and a murderer of those who followed Christ, and the disciples and the little flock knew about Saul and didn’t trust him.
They were afraid of him.
So, in order to show his conversion to Christ was genuine, he became baptized.
Not to wash away sins, but to show beyond doubt that Paul, believed and accepted whole-heartedly that Jesus Christ was the Messiah, and the disciples and little flock believed.

The Bible has always said that in this dispensation of grace, water baptism is no longer a part of the gospel that we are to preach today.
