Follow along in an open King James Bible as Brother Scott Evans teaches on the Biblical word, free, and how it relates to salvation today.

I hope you enjoyed this episode of Brother Scott's Look in the Book, and most of all, I pray you learned from it and that it helped you dive deeper into God's word, which he places above his very name.
(Psalm 138:2 KJV) (2) I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God gives us instruction on how to study our Bibles:
(2 Timothy 2:15 KJV) (15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Please do not only go by what I say, but do the work and study for yourself.
"Anything I can talk you into, someone else can talk you out of."

Hi! This is brother Scott with another Truth Time, Look in the Book!
Today is part 17 in my series, “Bible Key Words and Meanings A to Z.”
All references are from the King James Bible.
We continue with the letter “F.”
The word today is:

Free

Israel was to keep the commandments as being one requirement for their eternal salvation:

(Matthew 19:16-17 KJV) (16) And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (17) And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

That verse, of course, was before the cross. After the cross, our apostle Paul tells us that we are not under the law. No more having to keep the commandments. We are saved by grace through faith, a free gift that requires no works whatsoever.
(Acts 13:39 KJV)
(39) And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

(Romans 3:24 KJV)
(24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

(Romans 4:5 KJV)
(5) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

(Romans 6:14 KJV)
(14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
(Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV)
(8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Titus 3:5 KJV)
(5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Our apostle Paul explains that we have the freedom to do as we please, but just because we can doesn’t mean we should, and we should resist the non-expedient things and not allow them to control us.
(1 Corinthians 6:12 KJV)
(12) All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

(1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV)
(23) All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
We are free from having to keep the law in this dispensation of the grace of God.

(Ephesians 3:2 KJV) (2) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

Israel was required to obey Christ by performing works in order for Israel to receive the Holy Ghost.

(Acts 2:38 KJV)
(38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized (a work) every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

(Acts 5:31-32 KJV)
(31) Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
(32) And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

To everyone who has believed and trusted in the gospel, the Holy Ghost is freely given.
(Ephesians 1:13 KJV)
(13) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
(Romans 5:5 KJV)
(5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given (free) unto us.

(Romans 5:18 KJV) (18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

(2 Corinthians 1:22 KJV)
(22) Who hath also sealed us, and given (free) the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Furthermore, our free gift of salvation was a complete surprise to Satan.

(Romans 16:25 KJV) (25) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Had Satan learned about the free gift in advance, he would not have had our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ killed.

(1 Corinthians 2:6-8 KJV)
(6) Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
(7) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
(8) Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Note that Romans chapter 7 conveys the fact we are free from the law.

So, will you receive by faith this free gift? It is yours for the taking. Simply accept, believe, and trust in what Christ accomplished on the cross where he took your place.
It's all laid out for you in this lesson. You have no excuse.

As always, like the noble Bereans did with Paul’s messages, I urge you to search the scriptures to see if what I am teaching is true. (Acts 17:11)
